Burns Moving to 2A Next Year

AD tweeted this. Did not expect to move until 2021 but the NCHSAA is letting us. Our AD and principal presented their case yesterday and it was approved. Will be a big change. Looking forward to renewing the rivalry with South Point. Crest and KM will be nonconference games I’m sure.

I didn't see this one coming. I agree with Mopar ….Wow. I'm guessing there will have to be some schedule's shifting around . Thanks for the info Burnstweeter.

This is good news. Hopefully, we will be able to be more competitive now and get more wins at the 2A level. Well........that is if we can keep our best players from changing jersey colors on us if you know what I mean. You still got Shelby and South Point but on most years it should be much easier to get conference wins over teams like ER (again most years), Chase, RS and EG than it is getting conference wins over Crest, KM, Huss and Ashbrook.

The makeup of the Southwestern 2A might be different in 2021 but for at least 2 years we will be with Shelby, ER, EG, SP, Chase and RS.

That's what the SP fans said two years ago with their move.Went from winning the 3A championship to not making it out of the second round in back to back years.But welcome aboard.

Interesting just heard North Forsyth was dropped to 2a as well. Not sure if its true

Never dreamed back in the day cc would have 2 2a schools. However, Pinnacle is only going to keep growing and more UC kids than you think attend TJ. Good move AD White.

I still say Burns will be more competitive in the Southwestern 2A. I mean even as weak as our defense was this year, giving up over 40 points most games, we played this one team from that conference and that was one of our wins. Pretty big win. Like 32-14 or something. I am trying to think who that team was. Lets see, if I remember right they wore these gold pants and had gold helmets. Their mascot was some kind of cat. I am trying to think now. Ah well, it will come to me. :D

Burns has been a 3A school playing with 2A athletes for a long time now. our demographic just isnt the same as most competitive 3A schools. Burns could have won multiple state titles in multiple sports this decade had they qualified for 2A. of course that could be said for a lot of teams

I’ve seen the writing on the wall for this for the a year or so never would have thought that we would appeal it though. This could pay dividends for us in many sports other than football. Still have to play ball.

Wow. So you can just ask to be moved pre-realignment? I never knew that. What's the criteria for being approved? I know that numbers can change during a cycle, but I thought you just had to suck it up until the next change.

What is a 2a athlete? Or are you meaning 2a numbers?

I’m hearing West Caldwell will be moving from the Northwestern 3A/4A to the Northwestern Foothills 2A.

Haven’t heard about Tuscola.

Read where Parkwood could be moving down as well. They would probably go into the Rocky River 2A.

Both Monroe and Parkwood petitioned to go down to 2A. Their numbers don't really support their argument. Being that both the conference they are leaving and the conference they are moving to have to agree, the Rocky River 2A may well need another team with East Montgomery going away and agree to let Parkwood in. They may be a little more hesitant with Monroe though.

Private schools have nothing to do with NCHSAA.

I wander what the “requirements “ were ? Maybe they (ncshaa) just felt sorry for Pisgah :eek:

I don't know why they would feel sorry for us. We have a six-game winning streak against them.
That being said they never should have moved Tuscola,West and North Hendeson out of our conference two years ago.Should have been a 2a,3a conference like the four years before.

As of the last realignment a year and a half ago any school can file a petition to be reclassified before the Midway point of the current alignment (in the first 2 years).. After the Midway point you have to wait. The petition isn't easy to win though, at least from what I have read about it
