Burns @ Hibriten ...let's hear it!!

Didn't go to either school but I figured I'd pick on Beamer or whoever lol for falling asleep early and not posting this and beat all the Burns/Hibriten fans to the punch.

I don't have a lot of John Madden type intel to bring to the table in this discussion other than Hibriten brings a nice running game and opportunistic Offense after a turnover. Seen them play EB, West Caldwell, and Watauga. I hadn't seen Burns at all.

At their best against Watauga who is on fire this year with a tricked up offense but a little lacking on Defense. Hibriten lost 3 turnovers to Watauga..correct me if I'm wrong gentlemen, and STILL manages to walk away with a one point victory were they had to come from behind to win. Hibriten beats West Caldwell sure handedly, but that was early in season. Prob been a closer game if it was at the end like it was for a 1000 some odd years. Other than that Hibriten comes into this matchup with a softer schedule than Burns. They was the big fish in the little pond this year with their conference but still athletic enough to hang with most top of the line teams in the state at least a couple quarters. Burns comes in with a combo of easy games( I. E. EBurke, Draughn,) and deep contenders (Shelby, Crest). Expecting about an evenly matched brawl. Thoughts??

I agree. This one is very evenly matched. I am taking Burns for purely selfish reason because if West Rowan can beat Crest we will get another home game.

We finally had a healthy aaron hill since the first play of the crest game and the kid simply ran wild ......we came out of the north game healthy for the most part . if we can stop the run with any success we have a shot ....playing huss, km, shelby and crest should help us now but this we will be huge underdogs .

I think turnover's will have a lot to do with the outcome. Hibriten better come ready to play this Friday last night they looked lackadaisical.

I wouldn't say underdogs. I'd say 2 heavy weight boxers with same records going toe to toe. Extremely unpredictable. Whoever has the better D and least amount of turnovers wins. If Hibriten plays like they did against Watauga it's over.

How is their pass defense ? We thru very little last night as North simply could not stop the run....but we can sling it if needed .

Your tuff schedule is your advantage. Hibriten has not been tested like you guys have. You seen that as well with both Pisgah and Tuscola struggling to get wins. Strength of schedule gets you ready for the playoffs

We have a better pass D than years past. McMichael won a couple of jump balls last night but we had 2 picks as well.

Totally agree.....some folks laughed when we said huss was a quality win and look at them now ....rolling .....

Huss was a quality win I'd say. Improved big time as opposed to 2 and 3 years passed.

For Hibritens sake, Watauga and West Caldwell were quality wins for them. They've been tested but not like Burns. Athletic and talented enough to make this a fantastic game worth watching. I really don't think they are like the 2010 Hibriten team who shoulda beat Butler in a down to the wire nonconference thriller. I think 2 guys are in the NFL now that we're on that team. I think, don't quote me on that lol.

We are a completely different team when Aarons Hill is healthy. I'm looking forward to next week at Hibriten. It should be a good game. We just can't come out slow like we have in our last two games.

What people have to understand is that ANY of these teams in 3A West can win the regional. Hibriten is very good. No 12-0 team isn't. While there are favorites all of the remaining teams can get it done with a few breaks here and there

Nick Easton from the 09 team is a backup center for the Vikings.

I totally agree.....have to lucky and good at this point as parity rules the day.

Like I said, the best 3 win team around. For a team like that to move the ball on Hibriten, that can't be good. Wataugas defense wasn't terrible but let's just say any high calibure team they play doesn't punt very much. If it wasn't for a below avg defense, Hibriten would had "1" in the lost column and no conf crown.

McMichael put up simular numbers on Western Alamance 1 of the top 3A teams down East so take it with grain of salt.

McMichael doesn't seem to stink by no means. Maybe a little on defense. If they sat in the NW4a/3a they'd prob have 6 or 7 wins. Schedules make a pretty big difference sometimes. Each school can only play with the cards they are dealt. I'd say Hibriten has done well soft conf or not.

We all remember Lake Norman when they wasn't as good as they are now, came into Spartan stadium with 5 wins or less and they took South to the wire. Luckily for South they had Pollard. If not for that, South prob woulda lost by a couple.

Anybody can talk about Hibriten schedule. But Burns had to come from behind to beat RS Central. Kings Mtn beat Crest and there home already.
It's all about game planning. Catching some breaks. And staying healthy.

Just a note, RS isn't that bad. They won their playoff game last night. Yes Burns should have beaten then by 21, but RS isn't a "bad" team.

as previously stated RS isnt a bad team at all. We have established that our conference if tougher and we have had a more challenging schedule. Hibriten brings a 12-0 record, deep playoff experience from last year and home field to the table. We have not seen a running offense like theirs this season, so that will be tough to game plan for. Our O will have to play clean, no turnovers and hopefully cash in on long drives. Hibriten is very beatable but it will take a very good performance to do so. They are the favorite and rightfully so, looking forward to the game!

I've just seen a few highlights on FFN. It looked like Burns ran the spread is that correct?

No sir different one, David at Burns was coach for 1 yr before Matt Beam, after that 1 yr at Burns, he left came to Shelby and coached D for us, great guy and coach.
Younger guy played for Burns in early 90s

No different guy.....and speaking of rs ....crest beat them by a score and they beat a higher seed fri. i agree with whats already been stated. We played 6 quarters of below average football but the last two were really good . i hope we build on that for Friday . We cant get down early like we have the last 2 games .

Not sure what numbers you are referring to but the posted stats on the game with WA are severely inflated. I saw it live & reviewed the film with a pen in hand. They hit 1 very long (92 yd) pass play for TD when DB fell down against the 1st team D. Most of yardage & 2 scores (including a long flea flicker) came against the bench with the game way out of reach. Wouldn't be surprised if it was the same way against Hibriten. McMichael has some athletes but aren't/weren't a strong team at all.

Agree with the grain of salt because the only stat that matters in playoffs is W or L.

I just don't see this super weak schedule for Hibriten everyone is talking about. Sure Freedom is having a down year but they demolished them similar to Shelby/Freedom. West Caldwell is far from weak, and Hibriten dominated them. Maiden beat Lincolnton and Hibriten smashed Maiden. Watauga is no freebie either. So really, Hibriten schedule is very similar to Burns schedule in terms of strength, maybe slightly less but too close to call.

Yeah u do have a point there Pats. I guess I was thinking bout Foard, east Burke, and St Stephens, and the polar opposite of how they were last year- South Caldwell. They had some easys as well as hards. Of course Burns had EB and Draugh and E Rutherford. Also Chase is usually not so competitive.
