Boomer's stats have been pretty unimpressive thus far. Granted, the Baby Hueys up front are not giving much time to pass but the offense is not producing. I don't know. I never would have thought the program would unravel like it has.

Oh wait, Burns isn't the coach anymore, right?

Since offensive creativity seems to be a big problem, I suggest monty crack open the Glen Dobbs offensive game plan.

Now that was some fun football.

It puzzles me as to why Chad would stay with the team in a QB role given what happened in Arky. How poorly would a QB have to play before he were given another chance? Why not move to safety where he could beat someone out for playing time? It would be painfully apparent to me if I were a backup QB that only Luke or Seth will ever see the field no matter how they play.
Gragg needs to go to Montgomery and tell him he must hire an OC or resign. Then give that OC the authority to hire the rest of the offensive staff he wants. He may keep some or replace some, but the result would be on him.

That is not happening our coach won't let his own QB recruits signal in plays unless it's impossible for him to do.

He came here to prove he was a really good OC. We hired a guy wanting to prove what a good coordinator he was as our head coach.

Well for starters he has a child and is a few credits away from a degree worth $300,000. But if you think a transfer to Lamar!!1 is a good idea, hit him up on Twitter.

Well "a few credits away" means he would graduate in December and be immediately eligible to join another team in the spring and play next season. Why not?

The Whirled says that Skipper is out with back problems...Maybe it's time for Coach Wojcik to give Chad President another crack (at least he can run) or give Davis Brin a try.

Oh wait, Wojcik actually won more games than he lost.

Stats for the 5 complete games he played. He produces 232 yards per game and about 10 points. Tulsa's defense allows only 28.5 points a game. He doesn't turn the ball over either. He was benched in the Tulane game, but that was a defensive issue for that game.

Skipper came in and threw for 253 yards vs Tulane. Skipper than threw for 128 vs Houston, 259 vs UConn, 212 vs SMU, 157 vs Memphis, 119 vs USF (President threw for 72 on 8 completions vs 6 for Skipper). Skipper didn't play vs Temple. President went 4/13 for 40 yards 1td/0int he ran for 35 and Brewer turned in a monster game at 255 yards.

President was responsible for a TD in every complete game he played in. He also has several from spot plays.

Skipper had at least one interception in every complete game he played in except for Central Arkansas a trend continued by Boomer. Skipper also didn't throw an interception in the Tulane and USF games where he didn't play the entire game.

With our improved defense and Chad's ball security, he may be the best option to win. His completion percentage is low (57.5%) but he averages 11+ yards per completion, probably enough to keep defenses semi honest. I also recall several drops, which have also continued and probably will, from our receivers. Another loss means we are out of a bowl. I like Boomer, he's got Moxy, but a steady hand may be better here. I would see what we can do with President an entire game. I doubt he puts our defense in bad positions because of turnovers. That's a positive right there.

Boomer averages 35% completion rate. You read that rate and no I’m not dyslexic - 35%. He’s averaged - 100 yards passing A GAME the last two games. Chad looks like Drew Brees compared to that.

Oh and btw, this might be why Chad stayed at qb.

Because no program would want him. By all accounts he's a good kid doing what is asked of him in a tough situation. He's on track to graduate and will be a high school coach someday. I'd rather he have fond memories of this place and send a few recruits our way in 10 years. You think we should discard him. Your call.

Even I was calling for President to get a couple of series in versus Arkansas. I know Monty is not trying to destroy Boomer's confidence, but his first responsibility is to put the team in the best position to win. President for a couple of series picks up 2-3 1st downs because he can outrun the DEs. The couple of times Boomer did keep the ball unexpectedly he had some nice pick-ups.

Teams have figured us out when we pass. They bring extra pressure from the outside and collapse the pocket from the edges. The interior OL does a nice job of blocking (both pass and run), but we are not equipped to pick up edge blitzes at all and teams know it. Our WRs don't read the blitz and thus don't sit down on a hot read type.

The other way to beat those blitzes is let it come and dump a screen pass to the RB. You get burned a couple of times on screens and those edge blitzes have a tendency to slow down just a step or two.

All things considered, we should have won both those games with Boomer at QB. The play-calling went ultra-conservative. We outplayed Houston for 3 quarters and outplayed USF for all but 5 minutes. Seriously, if we could generate 30 pts of offense we could win the next 5 games. Our defense is that good this year.

Arkansas scored 2 TDs. 1 was a gift on the Boomer fumble. The other was a gift by the referees for their sheer stupidity of calling targeting on a player diving for a loose football and then players getting upset they got hosed. By my count, Arkansas completed 1 pass to an outside WR the entire game and that was a good read/reaction by the QB as Hill came on a run blitz from the edge and the Safety Who Shall Not be Named was late rolling coverage over. Everything else of consequence in Arkansas' passing game went to #85 who I couldn't quite tell if he was a slot WR or a TE, but he was really good.

We gifted the game to USF between penalties and poor play calling/execution. We don't have the luxury of playing things safe.

Houston dropped some pretty easy INT’s that if they would have caught would have made the game a blowout....Boomer is not a good qb.....sadly I think some FBS teams have better qb options playing wr than we have at any of our qbs on our roster that can play....I wish we would have been trying to get Zach Smith a waiver to play this year that way would could have used him his final four games and he could have still redshirted....

Skipper should get the start if he is healthy. If not President needs to at least get to play some series. He might be able to pick up huge gains when things break down in the pocket. And he certainly couldn't be much worse passing the ball.

But we have to try something!!!

President should get a couple of series per game. Heck, maybe the 1st series against Tulane as a change up to what Tulane has seen on film.

Yea, might as well.
Sure can't hurt at this point. At least he is a legit run threat and can keep the ball on some zone reads to keep the LB's honest and allow Brooks/Taylor better opportunities inside.

There are veer and single wing concepts that are already incorporated into this offense. IOW, we already sorta run the option and it’s the primary reason we can’t throw the ball except deep shots where the WR runs under the pass. It’s one of the biggest reasons I was against this hire from the start.

What those individuals don't understand (if they're being serious) is switching from a spread RPO offense to a true triple option team means a complete overhaul of every player on the offense. Want to see how that works...look no further than Arkansas where you have a team built to run Wisconsin's smash mouth offense trying to run Chad Morris' spread HUNH offense. They don't have the WRs or QB to sling it around like that. Their OL is built for run blocking. When you switch systems so drastically, you need a drastic change in the players you have to run it correctly. I hope Arkansas fans and admin are ready to give Morris 4 years because that's what it is going to take to get to where he has the guys he wants to do what he wants.

LOl we completed 8 passes, had 260 yards total offense and got shut out. I’m not sure it’s mathematically possible for our players to be worse at another scheme than they are at this one!

Another scheme is not nessary. Chad was removed from the position because more of a passing option was needed. Skipper initially (like all Monty QB's) appeared to be that threat. He also is a turnover machine at the moment. Chad showed he can be successful in the offense as is. With better play calling to our strengths and Chad's improved ball security the defense is probably strong enough to get us wins. That was simply not the case last year. While I doubt the move to President will lead to 6 straight wins and a bowl game, it may be the best option we have. Boomer isn't ready and truthfully a freshman redshirt or not is likely to struggle.

No I just figured if we we're going to talk about production it would be fair to examine the stats.

Our defense was horrible last year and we generally had to score a lot to win. That is not the case this year. Even a ball control limited offense will lead to win opportunities and President was at least capable of that. Our ability to rush as a team seems very similar to last year so similar offensive results should be expected.

I have begun to doubt our coaches ability to take advantage of winning opportunities but I'm always hopeful.

Ah yes because Kragthorpe felt so ready with Paul Smith that he played a hurt GJ Kinne in our first bowl game in a decade.

The truth is Paul came in and played great for part of a game and got done what needed to be. Then he redshirted the next year (we went 5-7) and then killed it in what is the equivalent of his junior year. Most freshmen and sophs aren't ready.

Rubley was an exception who also played for 80 years (I go by Pat Jones eligibility count). That's not the norm, I like what I saw from Boomer till the Arkansas game. He may develop nicely but it won't be under the current coach. Regression is the most common out come under his tutoring.

Good points here. I just made a point about Boomer being so young and his 1st meaningful game snaps in 2 years since HS came against an NFL 1st round pick and a pretty fast defense in Houston, a ranked USF, and an SEC fast team in Arkansas who probably has 1-2 future NFL DBs playing right now. Little bit faster game speed than Collinsville vs Skiatook/Oolagah whatever division in OK football they play. Skipper is just a RS sophomore. Gus Frerotte- 14 year NFL veteran didn't get a ton of meaningful game snaps where he played well until his junior year (did he RS?). It takes time and we're all expecting these guys to be Baker Mayfield out of the gate (BTW, every college coach who didn't recruit Mayfield should be fired...which would be every coach in the country. Kingsbury should be fired twice for at least not offering him a scholarship...then again Mahomes turned out to be a pretty special player in his own right).

Gus played most of the season in 90 as a redshirt freshman after Rubley wrecked his knee at Ark. He was the punter on 91 Freedom Bowl team. He started in 92 and 93.

Fan wore a shirt "Frerotte Not" in 92. Had five pic sixes in a three game span that year. Was better in 93 throwing to Chris Penn. But TU didn't win a major college game at home and finished 4-6-1.
