Its not "a trend". The league has a different idea of what an assist is. ex: after she passes the ball the player can take countless dribble and score and its still an assist. Still Thomas and ALL the other players get the same calls so its all relative. There is no denying that she loses about 3-6 assists/gm by her team mates missing bunnies, and mishandling balls right in their hands. Most of us thought her numbers would explode in the pro's playing with better over all talent, but that talent can't finish plays any better then the girls she played at Iowa with evidently.
Yeah as I noted in my response, I think they are very liberal crediting assists as compared to men because for her spicy or get ahead long range passes, the catch radii of the W players is tiny and many of them just can't catch balls with too much juice. Whereas, basically everyone in the NBA is a world-class freak with dexterity catching balls, or with leaping and finishing ability for dunks/alley oops, when in the W those same passes are frequently bricks on layups or fumbled altogether, resulting in a "TO" for Caitlin. She might get a "coach's assist" on those from White, but the establishment W media just calls those TOs.

That is not even close to being true. I've taken the stats training for both the NBA (3 days in Salt Lake City that felt like 3 weeks) and the WNBA and the criteria for an assist is the same for each league.

No, it's apples and apples. There are the rules on the books and there are the rules as applied. The rules in the books are the same but they do not get applied remotely the same. Do you watch the W?

I think it is safe to say I've watched more WNBA games than anyone else on this site.

Lets be honest. The league office wants Clark to be "slowed down" in these games by allowing defenders to grab and hold her, thus keeping her stats somewhat in check. Can't have her putting up too many 30/14/10 games, and hurt the feelings of Aja and her ilk. If they wanted this fixed, it would be fixed NOW. If Engelbert called the head of officials and said have them start calling that contact, it would change in 3 or 4 games or there be a bunch of fouled out players. This whole thing starts at the top and could be fixed if they wanted it fixed.
I don't understand why the NBA, who has bankrolled this league for years, does not step in and strongly suggest to the Commissioner that a little pow wow with the referees be held.

So are what are considered fouls and I don't believe the WNBA officials are following their own rule book here.

I'm sorry for that. I can't bring myself to watch games in which Caitlin or her team is not playing. Would you agree with me that the rules as written are not applied the same in the W and NBA for crediting assists, and calling fouls for violating freedom of movement rules?

I agree and I would like to underscore that this should be done for all W games/ refs, not just those involving Caitlin. The refs are consistently garbage allowing way too much grabbing, violence, and restrictions on the freedom of movement. It's like they are all institutionalized so if they have any actual reffing talent, they are programmed to call games inconsistent with the rules as written.

Agree - talents like CC and Bueckers (and others) need to be allowed to move without being grabbed and held. The defense on the exterior should not be any way near as physical as what is allowed in the post area.

Really. I've never thought in the NBA you could pass the ball and they could take 6 or 7 dribble and a move and the passer still gets the assist. Is there not a dribble maximum in the NBA where it becomes an un assisted play? If what your saying is true then just what assists is she getting credit for that are "liberal".....

Ryan Ruocco (sp) does a great job. I think he is probably too good for just the WNBA. As much as I hate all the ex Huskies I will admit Lobo does a pretty good job as well.

You Bet Adam GIF by Dubsado

The WNBA marketing of CC22 is probably one of the worst campaigns in the history of marketing. They literally have no clue at what they have, and continue to "proudly" display the fact that the WNBA was great before CC22 came along.

That's because the WNBA (including its players) doesn't care about money, it wants to win the culture war. A white, straight girl from the majority white state of Iowa goes directly against that.

W can be brutal: “And the Lynx were particularly tough on her when they let her go in the middle of a road trip, forcing her to find her own way home.”

Saw this joke on Reddit:

They said everyone that needs a ticket for the plane raise your hand. Pili, you can put your hand down.

They had to cut her before 5 PM on Sunday otherwise her contract would have been guaranteed for the entire season.

It's not the cutting part, it's the find your own way home in the middle of a road trip part.

Do you really think that happened?

Per their CBA, if a player is cut during the season the team is required to pay for a coach airline ticket to the city where she resides, which they most assuredly did. It would not be worth the issues it would cause to just leave her on the sidewalk outside the hotel.

Sounds like we need a 60 minutes investigation.

It would be nice if the officials got a mandate to keep this one in check from the jump, BUT I'm not holding my breath.......
