That’s so bizarre. If a coach this bad can continually put up mediocre results then what does it say about the other coaches? Or is it the many great competitive advantages Rutgers has over the rest of the Big Ten that he is squandering? Or?

Like I am far from thinking that either Schiano or Pikiell are necessary doing a great job, but the people around here who describe either or both of them as these complete bumbling morons who have no idea what they are doing just make no sense to me. How do you think we are winning the games we are winning? We are far from the worst power program in either sport and it’s not like we have a resource advantage over basically anybody. So do like 30% of the power five just have complete dunces for coaches?
Schiano talks a good game, winning over some recruits and duping his boss into getting unwarranted raises and extensions (Hey Pat, I need 6 more years tacked on or else I’ll bolt for Alabama bc Kyle told me Saban is retiring and I know some things.)

But re: game coaching, he has exceedingly low football IQ, proved several times a season.

You didn’t answer the question really. Unless you are claiming his recruiting is super elite, this offsetting the horrible in game coaching but:
(1) we can see the recruiting is not super elite and
(2) if it was.. that’s part of the job and he should get credit for it?

Yeah that. And aside from that, it seems near impossible not to give the coaching staff credit for development of guys like Pierce.

Am not sure what you’re getting at. Dividing aptitude across several measures, his in game decision making grade is a D at best. He performs better at other things.

Shelby doesn’t suggest Schiano is a D coach. He’s a C coach who’s ceiling is around .500 each year overall and less than that in conference. Universities who have higher aspirations fire such coaches.

Then explain why Pike is on the hot seat and Greg is not. You all keep wanting to dance around that issue with all this other nonsense because it will reveal the cracks in your defense.

Again, stop comparing the two sports because it’s not as cut and dry as some of you want to make it out to be. Some of you just want to argue for the sake of it than accept reality.
It’s about the trend. I acknowledge that 3 losing seasons in a row won’t be good for Pike but let’s not pretend Greg is killing it. He had a golden opportunity last year and underperformed. Conference records are comparable measurements across sports. They are both average to slightly below average compared to their piers in the big ten. Like I said before, I am board keeping them both because the alternatives aren’t good.
