I have avoided Rahway DMV since I took my driving test there almost 35 years ago. It was a mess back then, I can't imagine what it's like now.

I used to go to Rahway when my buddy was a Rahway cop. He'd tell me who was stationed there that day and I'd go drop his name to get pushed to the front of the line. Sadly, he's retired now, so I go to Springfield. I remember my daughter passing her driver's test and there was a 3 hour wait to get the license. So we took her documents and drove to Springfield and were out in 1/2 hour.

Many years ago, my co-worker and I took his car to the Somerville inspection station to get it inspected. It was an old Toyota Corolla that always smoked. We got to the end of the inspection, the guy lifts the hood, looks around at us and says "somethings on fire in there, better get it checked out", slams the hood, slaps a red sticker on the windshield and waves us on.

One of my Dad’s coworkers whose family was also close to ours had a Port Authority cop son. Little older than me but we grew up together.

At Newark we used to be able to pull up at either the arrivals or departures curb at any terminal and park there. Obviously way before 9/11.

This is just me personal experience from this week

I haven’t been in a DMV to renew my license in 16 years. Just kept renewing by mail

Birthday is late July. Got the renewal this week and said I had to go to DMV

So if you have a renewal within the next 3 months you simply make an appointment for a renewal and the paperwork says just to request a Real ID upgrade.

Found an 8am appointment easily but literally in late July

Wife’s license expires in October so I told her I will make her an appointment early so she can get there early

Does it continue to be the case that people can fly without Real Id? If it does, how long does the additional screening take and is it very burdensome?

Most importantly, how do my wife and I get appointments to get Real ID? When I go on the DMV site, I get a message that no appointments are available.https://telegov.njportal.com/njmvc/AppointmentWizard/12
If you keep constantly checking (multiple times a day) typically one shows up either due to cancellation or new ones being added. You may need to drive a bit.

Need to renewal my DL so will upgrade to the real ID. Question for the board, can one document be used twice for 2+1+6? For instance, SS card is listed as an option for step 2 and 3. Thanks

I just got my renewal form for my license that expires end of July and made an appointment for my renewal and will upgrade as well.

This link was useful on the website:

https://www.nj.gov/mvc/realid/pdf/26.pdf

Below the "primary column" is this note:

Documents from steps I and II
may also be used as secondary
documents if listed as an option

Also, when I clicked through their site and selected my documents, they automatically populated social security card for a secondary document in step 3 since I selected it in step 2. So, to me, yes you can use it for an option in step 3 too, from what I understand.

Here was the link that you can select your documents in, just in case you didn't see it:
