If this occurred last year or 2 years ago, the board would be going psycho petrified that Nova would snag Pikiell.
The reality of picking a coach that people think is hot, very often fails. One hit wonders happen all the time. That's why overreacting to fire a coach without proper study / analysis is the lazy way out and fails time after time. Death spiral.

Neptune wasn't hot. Fred Hill type miscue

likely Odom but he will go to Virginia...definitely have to think Little Ricky is under consideration
If he does go o Virginia , a name to watch is Alan Huss of High Point (Big South)
In 2 years there back-to-back Big South Regular Season championships and won Coach of the Year honors for the 2 years he was there going 56-14
He played for Creighton and was an assistant there from 2017 to 2023 until he got the HP job.

Jay Wright saw the inevitable decline coming and that is the B1G, SEC and Big 12 take over. No one thinks about Villanova or any Big East team beyond the month of March. Revenue sharing is just delaying the inevitable for the Big East....the minute UConn gets an invite out of that league, they're going to leave.

In terms of Villanova, why would a major recruit or player go there at this time?? It's at best the 5th best conference and you have no chance to get any coach from any of the major 2 or 3 conferences. Imagine hiring Richard Pitino who was doing a good job at Minnesota and got fired there and suddenly, he's the best hire they can find??

The market started to shift back when I told some fans it did, around 2018-19, when the RU rebuild started and suddenly the SEC, started to take basketball seriously and gobbled up all the best coaches.

Pitino was coaching at Minnesota in the 2020-21 season.....and Jay Wright was at the top of the coaching food chain.....then UConn got back into the Big East with Danny Hurley....and in less than 4 years time, Nova is considering hiring Pitino Jr....if that's not a fall from grace, not sure what else people are looking at. Nova and a lot of that conference just aren't on the radar, this coaching search should signal that.

I think Little Ricky did a decent job at Minnesota but nothing great. They had some really good players for a while before he even became the coach at Minnesota. I think he only got the job there because of his last name. I don’t know how he could do at Nova. I think they will hire a more successful coach.

Why?

$$$..stop downplaying their relevance

They have money and if they get this hire right they will continue to be top level

Little Ricky has New Mexico back in the ncaa this year..last year tourney champs this year regular season champs

Little Ricky at Nova is a way better situation than him at Minnesota..ditto for Collins

I am a Little Ricky fan. I want him to stay at NM because I’m hoping he’s our next HC.

I think what Jay Wright saw was the changes in the college game brought on by NIL and the relaxation of transfer rules rather than the demise of the entire conference or his ability to continue to be successful at Villanova. He was financially secure enough to walk away from having to deal with all this crap. While the Butlers, DePauls and SHU's of the Big East will struggle, other programs such as Marquette, Creighton, along with likes of UConn and now St.Johns, put more money into their basketball programs than many of the B-4 conference counterparts. It will become a conference of have and have nots just like many others within the P-4 structure will NIL being the differentiator. I don't know what Nova's specific financial situation is, I would guess that their main issue might be the administration running the school who has been more accepting versus outright supporting of the pitfalls associated with a big time basketball program.

A respected prof once told me no basketball player ever gets thrown out of Villanova for academic reasons. And that was way before NIL. Also if the basketball only schools get an advantage over the power leagues that play football, look out--here comes a power 5 exclusive tournament. Football rules.
