i dont think that was me...certainly at shu he wasnt

It was a long time ago and during a game . Something like you would take pike over Willard in a close game . I only remember it because I trust your basketball knowledge and did find it interesting . Pretty sure it was you

Yes it was you. Don’t make me prove it.
I am legend here as you know. Just admit you thought pike was better than Willard in a close game coaching wise .
Maybe maybe not

You can search

I really dont have an opinion either way but Willard has increased his stock and been impressive at Maryland

I think he's really concerned over NIL promise and not having an AD hurts

Nova will have at minimum what Maryland will spend

Then again this is a great time to renegotiate when his stock is very high
Based on what I continue to see and hear, I think he is leaving. The fact that a powerhouse program like Villanova has done nothing yet, while the mid-major plums are being plucked by lesser programs, furthers that feeling...

From the great Jeff Ermann of InsideMDSports (also, lots of good comments on the portal/NIL):

https://247sports.com/college/maryl...s-job-status-amid-villanova-rumors-247658023/

"The transfer portal is crazy. Kids are asking for $2–3 million right now. The money has exploded. We have no guardrails, no rules. It's been one of the worst-implemented rules in any sport. Agents are taking advantage of it. Every player has an agent. Every agent is calling schools saying, 'I've got $1.2 million here—give me $1.4 and we're gone.' If you don't have the revenue sharing, you can't compete."

Honest question. If you had an opening would you find Willard acceptable?
Yes and I think seton hall wishes he never left

He is a significant upgrade over what we currently have on all fronts except maybe some character question and not being a nice guy who brings in players from good families

If he left Maryland they would quickly fill his chair with little Ricky I would imagine

Given the pace of hirings elsewhere, I am surprised it is taking Villanova this long to hire someone. Makes you wonder what is going on behind the scene.

Didn't Collins decide to stay at Northwestern ?-- maybe those experts saying Villanova can get whoever they want were wrong.

I think Nova thought they were getting Pittino but Xavier gave last second deal! Honestly not a big fan of Pittino Jr! Nova dodged a bullet

If not Willard keep your eye out for Drew Valentine of Loyola of Chicago
He's a rising star with the way he has the Rambler program staying competitive after Porter Moser left for Oklahoma 4 years ago and is only 33 and knows the politics of heading a Catholic School's basketball program.
Another possibility is Chris Mack College of Charleston's HC
He was very successful at Xavier before jumping to Louisville and doing fairly well there but was involved in a scandal where he recorded one of his assistants trying to extort him and was suspended for 6 games in the 2021-22 season then he was dumped by Louisville but not a show cause termination .
Two years passed and now in his first season at CoC with a 24-9 record

These guys are drop offs from the top guys

I've heard Beard is under consideration along with Moser. I think they are waiting on Willard

Beard would be a home run.
Dude was in the final with Texas tech . The team he got fired from made the elite 8 in Texas …they might win in all if he wasn’t a domestic violence abuser type. He will win at nova

I heard Moser too,Beard's name is new to me, but someone that would be a good get.
Valentine is a long-shot , but Mack has the type of resume that should put him close to the top candidates
especially his Xavier years also 302–142 lifetime deserves some notice.

I wonder if the convention of a coach sitting on his plans and sticking with his team until the last game will endure much longer.

It seems honorable on its face; but in this case, "honor" aside, Maryland would have been better off if their coach had announced his intentions when it was still possible to snag one of the "up and comers."

Of course, it's still possible that the coach isn't leaving, but I have my doubts. Oh well, they'll have to pull a rabbit out of a hat, ha ha...

It's obvious they are just waiting for Willard to be available.
That's my feeling as well. Ha ha, every time he's asked about it this week (stark change from last week'), he goes off on a rambling tangent about playing Florida in the Sweet Sixteen game. What else is he going to say, right?

I don't blame the guy, this is how the system works. Make your hay when the sun shines...

its unfortunate for Maryland that your AD is bolting at the worst possible time.

I get everything is about football but Maryland much like Rutgers basically has real shot at every sustaining a level of winning beyond the 7-5 type season. This is a huge turning point for Maryland here who ran off a very successful coach Turgeon who by the way I would love to have at RU in the next couple of years. Hoops has always been the big sport there in both mens and womens by football does drive the bus. While Willard looks like a jerk for the way he is handling it, its up to Maryland president and big whales to give Willard the world. He just brought them to the Sweet 16 and had a very successful year and if you give him the money to pay for these players he will bring them in so I dont see why Maryland is hesitant to bow and take it up the ***...they will need to...who are they going to hire...Kim English? Some lower level guy from a mid major...I mean what a comedown this would be. Bobby Huggins is available or Tom Crean
