Ogbole debut vs. Indiana?

Mawot Mag, Austin Williams, and Emmanuel Ogbole were listed as questionable for the Iowa game. Mag and Williams ended up being the top two Scarlet Knights on the court against the Hawkeyes.

I may be in minority, but I think Ogbole could be a key to salvaging this season. I don't care if he scores a point. Simply having a big body to set screens, blocking out, and hammering opponents when they come into the paint would provide a big lift for RU.

The number of ticky-tack hand-foul "and 1s" we allowed at Iowa was embarrassing. Fouling opponents with the intention of letting them know "no easy baskets for you" would help immensely.

I agree, and have been making similar comments on here, that he has to help, if only a little. You and I (and some others) are not saying he’s a savior, just a big dude who can contribute with a few rebounds, a couple of altered or blocked shots, and up to five fouls. If he scores at all it’s a bonus. I’m anxious to see what he can do for us.

Wolf has not been good as far as hitting the boards and interior D. When Ogbole is eventually ready they should give him some of Wolf’s minutes and if he shows much of anything then make him the backup for rest of season. Let’s get a looksie at this guy and see what we have.

That is against community colleges. We are screwed if we think this is any answer to our problems.

What were Luke Nathan’s numbers playing in the Iron Hill Conference. Probably went 26-10 against Par Hills.

I wasn't trying to say he is the answer to our problems. Just noting his good fg percentage as reason to hope he could be better than Wolf if that 69% was not made up mostly of dunks.
Also noting that his free throw % is just as crappy as cliff and wolf so why not give the kid a shot.

Maybe we should give me a shot. I am pretty confident in most situations Woolfolk is the better option. He knows how to defend with the high screen and he has skills.

Ogbole has a sculpted body and has bulging muscles. Unfortunately Cliff is not as muscular or as big. Cliff took a large jump during the last two years but has leveled off or regressed. He still hangs onto the ball in the pivot way too long which allows for double and triple teams. He has to find the open team mate and give up the rock.

Here’s a highlight video of Ogbole’s freshman season at Monroe College, where he averaged 12 and 8 with 2 blocks per game. Shows some good fundamentals of keeping the ball high and using the glass:


PS: Luke’s senior year at Randolph High, he averaged 13 points and 1 rebound per game. Against Parsippany Hills he had 9 points and 0 rebounds.

Absolutely correct… watch any high ranked B1G around college basketball. They’ll kick it out if no shot exists… Cliff rarely does that.

I don't ever remember playing Randolph. They were in the other division 30 years ago.

Most school don't report rebounds. I am sure Nathan would have averaged 10+.

Gil St. Bernard did report stats. Only team I have ever seen score 30 FGs and have 35 assists. I am very confident Paul really didn't average a triple double in HS.

That would explain the low rebound numbers, but he did only have 9 points against Par Hills, not nearly the 26 you projected. But forget that. Take a look at Ogbole’s highlight video. He shows a drop step and a soft touch around the rim, keeping the ball high and using the backboard with regularity, all qualities that Cliff lacks in his offensive game. He even brings the ball up court in one sequence, similar to what we’ve seen from Woolf.

No one thinks he's some superstar. He is the biggest strongest player on the team by far with a massive wingspan

You don't think he can give a few minutes to rebound, protect the rim, add physicality, and dunk?

He's definitely raw but he seems to be taking to coaching well if you watch what he does around the rim. Keeps the ball high. Uses drop steps. Uses the glass. His touch is better than one would assume

Exactly. I think we agree he’s no savior but it appears he may be able to help us. Only one way to find out.

No one knows, but “get him out now” is a very popular phrase around here and not because we like saying it.
You see what’s happening to Gavin when facing D1 gifted athletes, for the non extraordinary, the speed and physicality is eye opening at first and requires an enormous adjustment to contribute.
He’s been questionable, not out for several games now, why isn’t he getting even a small run

Speed, yes for sure. Physicality yes, for Gavin

Ogbole is a physical freak. He is a monster. The argument to give him a few minutes is bc of his physicality. If he can't handle the physicality, let's find out this year bc there is no point in keeping him around if he can't. That's what he hypothetically brings to the table
