How is it possible that a D1 team simply refuses to box out.

This is not hyperbole...we don't do it.

Coaching malpractice...WTF!!!
Stonehill was out rebounding Rutgers for most of the game which clearly is unacceptable.Rebounding is all about positioning /boxing out and having players who want to get the ball.

Boxing out was taught to me during the first week of rec league basketball, the same week we learned the chest pass and bounce pass. Boxing out was second nature to most rec league basketball players by age of 10.

The guys are constantly out of position for rebounds. So many go flying over their head because they go right to the rim on a shot and they end up too close or even under the basket. On one shot today, GG was behind the basket.

Seems like most of the time when a shot goes up, most of our guys immediately turn and look to the basket instead of looking to get a body on someone. They repeatedly get caught watching the ball or waiting for the ball to come to them instead of getting a body on someone and then going up and getting it.

Technique is simple, shot goes up, go get a body with your forearm, stay connected, pivot and keep your a.. on that body pushing backward. However that’s only 10%. Rebounding is also 45% heart and 45% desire. We don’t have any of it.

Perhaps coach T’s recruiting ability is of more value than his coaching ability. 🤷🏻‍♂️ What exactly is his role?

Cliff is the worst offender he never boxes out against those guys yesterday he should have had 30 rebounds but he also gets pushed out so easily; Agree with above there was one in the second half where the shot went up and we had two guys under the boards and we just watched the ball and the Stonehill guy while he didn't get the rebound nearly got it from Cliff and Mawot I believe just a perfect example of us watching the ball and not putting a body on the or any defender

These types of post crack me up. Maybe the coaches forgot about rebounding at practice? lol. Definitely not a coaching issue. We had a tall roster for years. This year it’s on the small side. It’s also young and inexperienced. That’s a bad combination for a lot of things.

What part cracks you up exactly?

The part where we literally don't box out? I am a HUGE Pike supporter from day 1...there is no excuse for this.

Size has nothing to do with not attempting to box out.

Multiple things can be true at one time (youth, lack of intensity, etc)...none of that excuses not putting your *** on someone when the ball goes up.

It’s a player issue. The idea that Pike is not coaching box out is funny. He literally talks about rebounding every post game. He’s focused on it but the roster is just not able.

On a cerebral level, rebounders need to recognize the angle & arc of the shot, the balls rotation and the speed of the ball coming toward the hoop. Sometimes it is a matter of beating an opponent to a prime spot rather than just immediately boxing out on the spot. Just like playing defense: Move Your Feet !

Rebounding , boxing out is all about desire, heart and putting a body on somebody . We are a lazy team pretending to play defense. We don’t have the defensive player of the year.

Cliff needs to stop trying to block every shot

Hyatt needs to do more on the defensive boards.

We need to learn to attack the defensive board for rebounds
