Wait until the Iowa game. Will be 7000 high school girls there rooting for what's her name.
It dawned on me the other day that RU women's bball has never really been bad. From Grentz, through the first 20-25 years of CVS, it's been a very good program, but I'm starting to wonder if it'll ever recover, what with NIL and all. I just don't see the support there. I hope I'm wrong.

I would LOVE to see the program turn back around.

Unfortunately we haven’t had any talent I really thought Washington would turn things around but we are showing nothing that even hints at that

I think the team has a few talented players, but not enough to win against the good programs and will have a hard time keeping up with programs that are considered ( at best) pretty good
I'll wait till the end of season to say if Coquese is looking like she might make the program a winner, but as it stands mow I can only hope to say that when this season is over.
We might have disagreed before but might be on same page now and I feel you care because win lose or draw you post your feelings , glad when things go well, mad when they don't.

Parenthetically: how many years does CW get at RU? What’s reasonable to turn around a WBB team.? Many have done it very fast…

Right now I'd saY next year produce or go
Producing would mean putting out a team that was competitive in every game and might not win against the top programs but make a tough game out of it.

Quese took over a program in disarray and should be given 3 years to straighten out the program

In regard to whether it will ever recover, things can turn on a dime.

With the new landscape of college sports, IMO, it seems that facilities and selection of coach are the determining factors for a program's success. The coach has to be one who can recruit, but more importantly, coach 'em up. Green, at Illinois is an example. They improved facilities there and she wins some games they aren't expected to win (although, currently, they may not be as hot of a team as they were last year). Minnesota seems to be on track to be much improved. In, not even half a season, they appear to be out of the cellar of the B1G Conf.

Coquese is gonna have to come up with a better half court offense......quickly. Plain and simple,.....that's what the fate of her tenure comes down to, IMO. She won't get any top recruits going forward if the offense continues to look like it did tonight.

They need to go back and look at the Fairfield game again. After using that game to emphasize more assisted buckets and less turnovers, we had some games with nice ball movement. The last two games, we've reverted back to 1 on 1 ball featuring Kaylene. Only 4 assists as a team tonight, compared to 22 for VT.

It's so blaringly evident that our offense is too stagnant. The announcer was continually pointing out what we have been critical of many times thru this early part of the season......a dribbler with 4 teammates standing and watching. I know it's an inexperienced team, but an offensive system would make for some easier looks. Every shot we take seems like such a struggle to get off. It's almost to the point we would be better off playing a pick-up game style of offense(just pass and screen away). At least the defense would have to move and make decisions all over the halfcourt.

I agree with three.

We really need to see a steady progression over the course of this season though. Gotta get a couple of really good wins at some point this season. Otherwise, I worry that we will not attract the type of players needed to get back to the top tier.

Last point on regaining support...

Coquese has to recruit the area better, especially NJ. She cannot strike out in the area for a second straight year. Getting Destiny to come back home was huge. Unfortunately, we didn't seem to build any momentum off of her return as I had hoped we would.

Just imagine if the team had landed either Zoe B, Hannah H, or A. Del Rosario, or any combination of the three. Then add a Blakes, McMiller, Quigley, or K. Koval the following year.

You can't be a top team without being able to attract any of these area players. Add any two of them to our current roster and we become a top 5-caliber team in the B1G Conference. McMiller, as a floor general, surely could bring out the best in the talent we currently have.

We know how it got there and Pat made things worse by punting on the program
Why do you have to keep harping on this. CVS left a program in shambles. I don't believe it was her intent, but it is common when coaches stay too long and then resign at the worst time for the program.

We don't need to keep being reminded. I was a huge supporter of Vivian until after Covid. I'm not saying she shouldn't have left earlier, but the win / loss records - while not up to her standards - were not bad - as posted in another thread. Until post Covid, when I don't think she was up to coaching and tried anyhow, and then the season with Eatmann when we should have had a new coach in. Period.

I'm an RU grad and we were proud followers of the program for over 15 years, and still follow from afar. We need to figure out how to move on, not rehash how we got where we are. As someone else speculated, Rutgers may never return to where they were during the best of Vivian's years. She was a remarkable coach who many really good players wanted to play for.

Cvs is one half of the problem...CW is the other but thats not her fault. Its Hobbs going with a coach who had success but then quickly tanked at Penn State. Not the hire we needed and its obvious he wasnt going to spend bucks to keep the program from going dormant. Hobbs failed in handling any transition period which would have made sure CVS had a strong assistant and quite frankly her assistants her last 8 years were subpar

The CVS issue has to keep coming up because she left the program in absolute tatters with zero foundation and a decimated fanbase. Attendance...real not reported had been cratering for years. Rutgers despite making some NCAAs was no longer a national threat or even a threat to contend for Big 10 titles

Rutgers is going to be another Penn State, La Tech, Old Dominion. Great history but far removed from any success

To continue bringing up CVS is useless and misplaced energy. Seems some are more disappointed that she is not still the coach so they could go full throttle with their criticisms of her.

All this talk of the past few seasons and the current state of the program having an effect on ability to restore the program is an overreaction, IMO. In today's time, the past has as minimal of an effect on the future as it ever has.

We have impeccable facilities and great academics. The coach selection makes the difference. Coquese deserves this year and another recruiting round to see if she was the correct selection. She and her staff are doing a good job of developing the talent. Kaylene is lifting her game and Chyna has made huge strides under this staff. I also like what I'm seeing with the development of Antonia's game.

What is going on now has only a few things to do with CVS. We can thank CVS for leaving us with our best player, All Big Ten, Kaylene Smikle, along with our best rebounder, Big Ten Honoree, Chyna Cornwell, and a steadily progressing 6'3" Swiss army knife who currently is saving us at point guard, Antonia Bates. Don't want to leave out Erica who provides depth on the roster. CVS had numerous other talented players on the roster when Coquese took over. Still had Sakima, K Sanderlin, S. Lassiter, and L. Petree. Not a bare cupboard. I know Sakima's situation was different, but she was in house. Coquese either was not able or maybe did not wish to keep that talent.

Bottom line,.....outside of diehards, fans are fickle. If we start winning games, the fans will come. Until then, we will have a half empty arena. We all know this. So, at this point, it's squarely on coach to lift the current talent to a higher level of play. If she were to do that over the first five games of Big Ten play, all of the sudden, we sit up in our seats and say 🤔"Hmmm! Next thing you know the RAC is starting to fill up again and this conversation is forgotten.

Oh! can't forget,......The CVS staff also recruited Awa Sidibe, another Swiss army knife whose ability to defend is sorely missed right now.

I agree have to definitely give her at least 3 because the way and when CVS left the first year shouldn’t even count the only difference now is the portal but you’d like to see improvement on the recruiting trail and on the court

I stopped reading at "useless and misplaced energy" because that sums up a lot of bac's posts on the football and women's basketball boards. A lot of whine and no cheese. 😁

I can agree with what you're saying, but got to give bac credit for his game breakdown posts on the MBB board.
He is a true RUMBB fan , though I can't say I think that about his RUWBB fanhood the way he ignores this board ( most if the time) when things go good, but you can bet he'll be around when bad things happen .

😄Maybe I should have place the first sentence at the end of the post.

Actually, you should read the rest. I'm kinda all over the place. with my thoughts in that post. Besides the response to CVS bashing, it really is focused on the concern a lot of us have about ever getting back to the top. I say we give Coquese a fair chance and if she doesn't get it done, an up-and-comer from a mid-major school would jump at the chance to come to RU. The school is set up to continue in it's former winning traditions. Facilities, top conference, talent-rich region, and last but not least, academics. As we know, timing is important with coaching selection too.

Oh, I agree with everything you said in the rest of your post. I admit I do not closely follow WBB, but for that matter, I do not follow MBB that closely either. @MADHAT1 is right in his post above regarding bac and MBB and bac only coming over here to poo on things when they go "bad" for WBB, but he does a good job on MBB. No reason to take the low road on WBB. The whole CVS transition and how it was handled is water under the bridge. Onward, upward.
