The current forecast for Saturday is sunny with temps between 64-74. If that holds up, it's going to be a great tailgate scene. But I agree with those that say the stadium will only be 1/2 full. It's not a knock on the team. It's just reality. Maryland has a borderline top 25 team and they have the same issues with attendance against non-marquee opponents. Keep winning and it will get better.
Many things in their favor, generational success, nothing else to do. Its just like Nebraska basically. Everyone grows up a PSU fan even if they have no affiliation to the school.

If Rutgers didn't openly lie about attendance numbers, I wouldn't say a word about it and I'm sure many others who post here wouldn't either. What's embarrassing is the athletic department announcing 50K+ crowds and/or "sellouts" when there are huge sections of empty seats in the upper deck and sometimes even in the lower bowl. Rutgers claimed the Virginia Tech game was sold out beyond capacity, which was a ridiculous lie that anyone at the game or watching on TV could see within a few seconds.
What I still can't figure out is why the athletic department continues to deceive the public about this. What's to gain? Are they worried about the Big Ten throwing us out for low attendance or something? I honestly can't figure it out.
Agree. Rutgers will announce 50K but I doubt there will be more than 35-38K actual human beings in the stadium when the crowd peaks in the mid-1st quarter before everyone starts leaving.
Yes.. the people that go to every game will be there. What's that..25K? Some season tickets sold are to people who do not go to every game no matter what. Nor do they have people dying to use the tickets they won't be using.
The students will be there if they have had a great time at the previous games. But even the students have a choice. This is a suitcase school.. "Gee should I go home this weekend and do laundry? Who are we playing.. Wagner? Hmmm".
Now think of everyone else... the casual fans. Their choices might be.. sleep late or go to the game. Catch better games on TV while watching the Rutgers game on my couch. Get the honey-do list done or go to the game...
Rutgers is not at the stage where there is no CHOICE for fans. And if fans cannot use their tickets there is not a waiting list for season ticket fans or those fans who rarely go to games to fill in the empty seats of season ticket holders who decide that they'd rather not go to a cupcake game.
All programs are different. Just being in an area with so many different choices for your entertainment dollar makes us different. The average student is likely 50 miles or less from home. We are different.

I want to unpack the attendance of not actually human beings. Are we talking bugs, dogs, unidentified species?
Do eggs and human embryos count? Or can we not count our chickens and embryos before they hatch. Because Rutgers security will not allow eggs in the stadium due to homeland security concerns. RU should get a 1,000 count credit for that.

I think there will be more than 27,000 people in the stands at peak, which would be half full.

Through three home games last year, Rutgers claimed to be averaging 51,497 fans per game including two "sellouts." The real number was actually 31,194. So RU inflated attendance numbers by more than 20,000! I think attendance has been better than 31K per game so far this year, but clearly we can't trust any figures released by the athletic department unless they are compelled to release real numbers through a Freedom of Information Act request.
