Hope it's Nike for the sake of recruiting/perception. Specially in Basketball.
Need to be tier 1 at whoever it is

I always liked adidas, I was in the band when they switched over and they were really good to us. Warmup jackets, sweat pants, hats, knit caps, all for free. Plus lots of merch options. Nike (my freshman year) made us pay for all of that.
Also, adidas brought back our classic football jerseys and I feel like did a really good job. Plus, the throwbacks in basketball which were awesome. And felt more special since there are only like 10 or 12 adidas schools. Nike you’re a factory product, bland cookie cutter stuff.

Why? They don't recruit for you. They didn't help Rutgers with the salmon unis. Kids don't pick where they go based on who makes the unis.

If a high school kid already has NIL deal he isn't coming to Rutgers. He is going to a top ten school.
have to say, Adidas putting a logo of the state of NJ on the jerseys and helmets were a really nice touch. hope that whomever takes over continues that.
Heard the other way Addias is going to up their deal to mostly a tier one contract to keep Rutgers.
Consider it this way; bench players aren't paid the same as a starter. Starters don't make the same money as Superstars. Tier 1 is the top-of-the-line for Adidas and Nike. You get better everything compared to the rest of their clients. The deal with Adidas pays Rutgers more money. The uniforms are the best Adidas offers, and Adidas promotes the school because Adidas is heavily invested.
Stick with Adidas since Nike treated Rutgers like crap last time.

I also read that Adidas also has a NIL program. Is this related to Tier 1 and Tier 2, whatever? Or a different category. I guess that Adidas doles out money both to the schools and to the players.

Sounds like an Adidas Re-up is likely.
However, side note regarding the timeline of ordering/producing things like jerseys. I work for a fashion/apparel company and producing things in "secret" (for a variety of reasons) is quite normal in the industry.

Posted a while back we were signing a short term deal with Adidas. I haven’t heard anything otherwise since then.

ND 's Under Armour contract is up and they plan to hit the open market. Rumors were they might go with Nike next (they were Adidas before UA).

Because Nike treated Rutgers like crap while adidas has done a good job with Rutgers. I’d re up with them, esp if Adidas want to make Rutgers one of their top teams.
I haven't kept track of who has what. Seems like most of the big name schools are with Nike (or Jordan). Adidas doesn't seem to have the big names. The "biggest" seem to be Miami, Washington and Texas A&M.
UA was even worse with the two biggest names being Auburn and ND but it appears ND might be flying the coop after next football season.
They lost me when they gave an endorsement deal to that cop-hating POS Kaepernick.

Rutgers is one of Adidas 12 T1 schools.
Adidas has given its T1 schools bigger deals than Nike. This is likely due to Nike having a greater brand reputation and also working with more schools so their dollars are spread out more.
With that said, I'm for whoever pays the most and it seems to be Adidas.

Is that true? Maybe on average but the last I checked, the three largest deals were Michigan, Texas and Ohio State and they are all Nike schools.
Youre correct about it being on average but here is some data I pulled from an article about Notre Dame.
With an average annual value of about $9 million, Notre Dame’s apparel deal ranks in the top 10 nationally along with Texas (Nike), Louisville (Adidas), Kansas (Adidas), Washington (Adidas), Ohio State (Nike), Nebraska (Adidas), Michigan (Nike), Auburn (UA) and Wisconsin (UA).
The $9M was the existing deal with UA. Those schools above are listed in order I believe.
I think Adidas has done well by us, especially Basketball. I see no reason to switch to Nike unless they give us a comparable deal.
