That lineup is awesome with so many pro-American players that chose to represent the country that gave them so much. One glaring name missing.
It’s been one hell of a tournament and I hope that it gets better with age in 2026. Hopefully Manfred keeps his hands off this with his pitch clock, banned shifts, ghost runners, etc). Maybe have it in November in the Caribbean, Florida, Arizona, Texas, Toronto, Japan, Australia, etc.

Interesting comment about the ghost runner rule. If there was ever competition that was tailor made for that rule, it is IMO the WBC, with its pitch count limits. Marathon WBC games simply do not work! In that event, DeRosa has talked about pulling his team off the field and taking a forfeit, rather than overworking his pitching staff. He has made commitments to the MLB managers, and keeping those commitments is his priority.

TBH in the group stage, I don't know why they don't just let games end in a tie.

Worthless series. Altuve out indefinitely due to fractured thumb.

I guess the WBC has been good for the Yankees so far. Not sure if Hicks or Donaldson are playing. One of them getting injured would be a home run for NYY!
Players get hurt. They get hurt in spring training or playing pickup basketball or riding horses. No need to **** your pants in public about it. WBC rules.

Great performance by Team USA though it really hammers home the pool imbalance. Cuba was 2-3 with wins over Taiwan, Panama, and Australia. They had no business being in a semi.

USA vs. Japan will be amazing if it happens though I'm not counting out Mexico.

Incredible finish.
Actually the finish was totally credible, in the sense of believable.

Japan is really good. They can rake. With Darvish starting tomorrow and Ohtani at the ready, I'd make them a pretty solid favorite in the finals.

USA will likely start Merrill Kelly, a mid-rotation type who will be given a short leash.

I am wrong on that one, at least according to FanDuel. It's pretty much a tossup. USA is -115, Japan is -105.

USA vs. Japan is almost certainly going to be the most watched baseball game of all time.

Wait, was that Ohtani that scored in the 9th? He's playing? The biggest worldwide name in the sport? So I guess the Angles are another team stupid to let the biggest name in the sport play, oh well.

He led off the bottom of the 9th with a double to get the rally started. He's fun to watch, which I saw more of him on the east coast.
