The guys who are taking his shot attempts are also having a hard time filling his spot. Mag was playing some very efficient ball on the offensive end. This is the third game in a row where we’ve barely managed to reach 60.

Mag does so much for this team. His absence is requiring more minutes for our bench and there is a huge drop off to giving Mag's minutes to Dean Oskar Simpson

He would have guarded Hawkins today who had a very strong game with 18/8/4

We were still winning this game with Cliff though. His foul trouble completely changed the entire game

I just don’t understand homers like you. You fascinate me.
Understanding how important Mag is to this team has absolutely nothing to do with being a Homer

If you think Mag's absence is not a huge loss, you simply do not understand basketball. That's all there is to it. You're just losing credibility trying to act like he isn't important

The loss of Mag is felt most when Omoruyi is off the floor.

Other than the two of them, we don't really have a true post presence. Hyatt is a perimeter player, primarily. Neither Reiber/Palmquist really play well in the post, either.

Take that element out of our offense, and we become a perimeter team with no inside-out or outside-in game. We don't have the horses to score in that configuration.

Amazing that people can watch our team and not understand the game. Losing Mag killed us. He was so good defensively that it allowed Caleb to play a lot more help defense. That allowed other guys to get breaks on the defensive side. Mag was also our second best rebounder. Now guys are being forced to put more effort out and it’s showing on the offensive side

How’d he do be murray and Iowa?

Can you read? I never said he wasn’t important. He’s very important but if you think we win this game with him then you just don’t know what you’re watching. Did Mag was play vs iowa and Michigan st beat us by double digits. You can’t just blame every loss the rest of the year on msg not playing. It’s weak.

The game at the garden cost us big time
Mag doesn’t tear his acl on the rac floor.
We have gone from a potential 4-6 seed to a bubble team with out Mag.
I get very upset when the team doesn’t play up to its potential.
Not upset with todays loss as I believe this is our potential.
Hopefully we make the tournament without having to play in the play in round and looking forward to the talent infusion, to come

Yup. IMO, We lose both of these past two games with him also. However, depth becomes the bigger issue. When you have to play Reiber, Palmquist, etc more, it only makes it worse.
Indiana I actually think we would have had a shot but today no way. Illinois just outclassed us which is fine. They’re one of the best teams in the league and we were on the road.

Stop. The Knicks play 41 games a year on that floor. ACL injuries can happen literally anywhere

His impact on the opposition in the paint, making it difficult for them to score, his ability to trap and press is to much overcome
Are we going to hear about Mag not playing every single game. Mag is DONE. Fans need to get over it and move on. This game is on Cliff, who was a disaster and dominated for the 2nd game in a row, on Spencer, who against a good team as usual was a no show, and Reiber, who is a disaster anytime he is in the game.

^^And we have a winner !

The lose of Mag is very meaningful but we are built to absorb it. The defense was very good and aggressive today in about 30/40min today.

But when cliff is out of the game , we got absolutely eaten inside . And no option to run the offense off of. Even if Cliff doesn’t touch the ball on offense the changes the way the other team guards off screens, etc.

We needed Cam to be a threat from 3 if Cliff isn’t in there.

I think you have a mental illness. We’re gonna finish 13-7 in the BIG and get a 6 seed. We don’t need fans like you with loser mentalities.

Hawkins had a strong game because with Cliff in foul trouble he moved to the 5 and ate Reiber alive.

Without Mag as an option on the floor, Omoruyi staying on the floor 30+ minutes becomes crucial. He can't pick up cheap fouls, because you couple a legit foul with a cheap foul and then add in a questionable call, and our team can unravel quickly without Mag there as another option in the post.

I’m afraid you are right. Mag would have also drawn Coleman Hawkins on defense today and probably would have prevented him from lighting it up. During long scoring droughts like the 2nd half today, we really miss Mag’s 50% FG % and the ability to get a quick score in the paint. Having said all that, when Cam, our leading scorer only gets 2 points, you aren’t beating anyone on the road. He needs to get right for RU to finish strong.

Illinois didn’t figure anything out. They started making shots and we went cold, and it snowballed. It’s not always about adjustments. Mag is a good player but we got blown out in the second half

With Omoruyi on the floor, they outscored us by 1. With him off the floor, they outscored us by 12. The thing they figured out is that we're a very different team with our center on the bench.

Right, but that’s not figuring out anything. Mag being out had nothing to do with 10+ minutes without scoring either.

We really miss Mag's ability to get a few easy buckets around the rim a game. Those baskets are so important for a team that doesn't shoot the ball well

Nope, loss had little to do with Mag. Team played fine without him in the first half. The entire team collapsed.
Miss Mag but loss was all on offense not the D. We won MSU in 2nd half without Mag. It was no offense. Same at Indy. D was fine the whole first half. Reiber and Hyatt bunny misses hurt so much. I think Simpson will be great but awful shooting and hitting backboard. He can’t do that mid February.

Bigger factor is ridiculous palming call which took Paul out of game. Bad job by Pike who should have gotten the technical of all technicals for that call.

Three games away from home in February is awful and so unfair to RU. Will people finally admit emotional toll and traveling on RU sucks? I doubt it.

Officiating wasn’t great. Thought Illini player traveled before Cliff ticky tack foul.

Mag absence is a loss for the team but not the reason why Rutgers was defeated against Illinois. They have been a mediocre offensive team for the duration of the B1G Ten schedule.A scoring drought allowing Illinois to go on a 15-0 run was the deciding part of the game. The continual struggle to even score 60 points is a telling indicator why results like today occur.Moving forward Rutgers must win the three remaining home games and defeat Minnesota on the road.Wisconsin and Penn State are also winnable games on the road.

Team and coaches need to find the type of play that overcomes Mag being out and the leam needs to start learning to play in a system that doesn't need Mag's contributions to be a winner.
Guess it's just Pike having a game plan that doesn't include what Mag brings to the floor when he's in the game and utilizing the skills of the players that are still available more than when Mag was ready to play.
All is not lost, just that new team chemistry needs to be acquired and it might take a few games for the team to learn how to be comfortable in a new style of play that doesn't include Mag's skills.
