Honestly was a valid concern of those people who said that. He was terrible against he was 9/34 (26%) vs temple, hall, indiana and miami. The early returns looked bad. But he did a total 180 after the shu game and had he not we dont beat osu or nw
More proof that you need to wait way longer than expected to make sense of college basketball players/teams each year. January is usually when the truth comes out.

kid is a gym rat that just knows how to play period. Doesn’t get sped up at all on offense , and is an excellent passer as well. What has shocked me is how good a defender he is. Maybe not a great individual on ball defender but he understands angles and passing lanes and his anticipation is second to none. Just a great player for us and our definite go to in crunch time

If you saw my post in reply to those lamenting that Cam couldn’t do it in the Big 10, it appeared that he was short on all his shots , all front rim never back rim. I said he had to just use his legs a little more and make a little adjustment . Well he clearly made it. If he makes just 1 more three against Temple , Miami or Seton Hall in those games , then Rutgers has 2 more wins and we are 15-2. If Refs don’t mess up at Ohio State we are 16-1. Think about that for a minute. Just 3 more points , just 1 three more by Cam. Crazy the difference between wins and losses at this level.

To piggyback on your passing compliment , Cam would have had 3-4 more assists if we knocked down wide open great shots that he got our guys.

Let me throw out a comparison if I may

Peter Kiss

Came here also considered an outside sharpshooter
First game out of the gate he hit a bunch of threes and we thought we had struck gold, write ups all about him

As the season wore on, competition got tougher….. not so much worked anymore

A lot of fans were deceived early on

Now
With Cam, same expectation, opposite result…. Shaky start, then he got going

Steve Kaplan and Bobby Lloyd are the best free throw sitters I've seen at Rutgers.

Maybe he'll get there
Bobby Lloyd was 255 of 277 for 92.1% in 1966-67 and led NCAA Division I in free throw percentage. He was a great long-range shooter too, and definitely hit many shots from 3-point distance, before there was a 3-point line.

Got to be in your 70’s to have seen Lloyd live. He and Valvano were an amazing pair. Lloyd set NIT record for points scored in tournament- later broken by others with benefit of more than 4 games and 3 point line

Yes. Kyk bac etc
False. I was actually patient with him and said let it play out after his rough start vs real competition. He shot a combined 27% from the floor vs shu, miami, temple and indiana.

But thats irrelevant. Hes a big shot maker. Cant create his own shot but LETHAL catch and shoot shooter. In the past end of game was just let geo dribble around for 25 seconds then shoot, last night we ran a play to get cam a catch and shoot. Beautiful.

That’s a good video breakdown of that final shot. In real time was wondering how they let Cam get open. Good dive to the basket by Cliff to force the help there.

He is still learning where is shots come from in a game and a team where the ball is shred

If he can learn to drive and dare sone contact , he will get to the line more…
If they stop calling BS charges on him but he can create his shot more than I thought he could and like someone said above if some of the guys hit wide open 3's he would have had a bunch more assists

Kaplan, from Wikipedia
Basketball career
In his Rutgers career, he averaged 16.4 points and 7.6 rebounds per game, with a 18.2 field goal percentage and an 88.8 free throw percentage (the second-highest in school history). His . 927 free throw percentage in 1989-90 is the highest in Rutgers history.
