Back to Clemson for Scott?

Losing 54-26 to a 28 Temple will cause a firing.

EJ Warner was 27/36 for 344 yards with 2 TDs and no INTs. Edward Saydee ran for 265 yard, averaging 11 yards/carry. Saydee's high total prior to this game was 69 yards on a similar number of carries.

USF is last in the American on defense, allowing 39.9 pts/game.
They should have left Shoop in Philly with a bus ticket home.

Some names that have come up for USF are Jason Candle, Jamey Chadwell, Sean Lewis, Kane Wommack, Dan Mullen, Tony White, Alex Atkins
Some name brands that might get a look:
Scott Frost might have a shot, because of his 2 year success at UCF before flopping at NEBRASKA
If Randy Shannon wants to be a HC again , he might deserve consideration because he's supposed to recruit wall and might be a good HC fit at a mid major after being let go as the U's HC 12 years ago
Tom Herman might want to get back in the game and USF might be a place for him to proved he's more like his Houston success than his Texas years
Manny Diaz is another name that might get a close look.

My dark horse candidate is former UAB head coach Bill Clark , if his medical issue is fixed and the rumor of his thinking about coaching gain is true.
He made UAB a good program from the mess he took over then revived that program after it was dropped

Yup I’ve seen those names too on a different list.

I've left out assistants with no prior HC experience because I feel USF will want HC experience ( with some success) when trying to get someone that has a chance to make the Bulls a good mid major program.
Also ignore the chance of Dion leaving his current position for a school like USF when P-5s are looking at him.
Jim Levitt was mentioned in article I read as someone the fans want, but it was implied : no chance of Jim2 there.

The Athletic recently had a nice article on Poggi. He's credited as part of the reason for Michigan's resurgence the past couple years. Seem like a Joe Moglia-ish type hire. Not an x/o guy in particular but an executive CEO type who'll put in the right operations and people.

Recruiting at Charlotte will be slightly more difficult than at Michigan or a Maryland parochial high school. Though getting personal recommendations from the Harbaugh brothers is impressive to an AD. Could be similar to the Bill Walsh recommendation of Terry Shea, of course, too.

IIRC in the article, Saban endorsed him too just in general not particularly for that job.

edit: I wouldn't be surprised if Charlotte got him cheap too, his hedge fund supposedly made a bunch of money after the 87 crash. Like I said he strikes me as Joe Moglia type hire CEO...not a Dabo/Orgeron football guy CEO.

Here you go Charlotte's press release actually refers to the article lol. Also quotes from Harbaugh and Saban.

Poggi was recently touted for his role in the Wolverines' current undefeated season in an article written by Bruce Feldman for The Athletic. Prior to his tenure at Michigan, Poggi founded and led the football program at Saint Frances Academy, a private high school in his hometown of Baltimore, Maryland, to national prominence.

WHAT THEY ARE SAYING:
"Biff has been a tremendous asset to our University of Michigan Football program, providing support and mentorship to our coaching staff and players. He has a great football mind, knows how to prepare a team during the week and on game day, and is a coach that aims to change the lives of his players in a positive way. Biff is a trusted agent and known friend, and I know that his leadership and ability to develop a team-first culture will be a huge asset to the Charlotte 49ers."
Jim Harbaugh, University of Michigan Head Football Coach

"Congratulations to Mike Hill and the Charlotte 49ers for a great hire. Biff Poggi will generate excitement and success for the program. The players will love playing for him and the coaches will love working with him. Get ready to win!"
Nick Saban, University of Alabama Head Football Coach

Charlotte would be an interesting replacement for Wagner as an OOC opponent. Or as an OOC opponent for Maryland.

I think they're hoping for a Moglia type build at Coastal Carolina. He built them up, donated some money to the school and left them with Jamey Chadwell who has continued to take them to new levels. They're taking an outside the box shot.

On another note: A lot of Matt Rhule to Nebraska rumors floating around the internet and a possible hiring in a couple weeks. Take it for what it's worth.

Rhule to Nebraska means James Franklin is in for the long run at Penn State.. And Penn State is OK being Ohio State and Michigan’s lap dog.

I like Stoops and think he’s done an outstanding job at UK but imo again imo it’s too much. Agree with Russo. Nebraska must have factored into it.

I think Rhule to Nebraska is quite possible but Stoops name has been connected to them as well. I’ve not seen much with Stoops to Auburn. Usually it is Kiffin, Deion or Freeze and then maybe others lower down the list and those names aren’t Stoops either.

Mark Stoops is a college football head coach that's been floated as a possible candidate for jobs like Nebraska and Auburn, but he doesn't appear to be going anywhere.

Stoops has done a nice job at a school with low football expectations. He has not done the type of job to warrant that contract. Yet he and his agent can leverage interest from a school where paying 3 coaches at the same time seems the norm to continue this crazy escalation in college coaching salaries. Until there is some type of negative repercussion to a school like Auburn for paying Malzahn, Harsin and a new coach simultaneously there is no end to this gravy train.

Don’t see it being reported by Thamel, Feldman or McMurphy yet though. Dan Wetzel is a CFB reporter though who did the retweet and Kiffin has been long rumored as choice 1 for Auburn.

Kalen DeBoer with a new contract after his current 9-2 season in year 1. Was only making 3.1M and now bumped to 4.2M with annual raises of 100K and retention bonuses of 500K every 2 years. Pretty solid initial contract for UW. Don't need to break the bank by today's standards to get a solid coach....3M initial salary before this extension.

Ohio State is a better job. It's easier to get to the playoff from the B1G than from the SEC. Michigan, Michigan State, Maryland, and Penn State are not exactly Georgia, Alabama, and LSU.
I keep on saying Auburn will probably hire Matt Rhule and not the ones most are speculating will go there .
But instead of Day the TA&M message boars should be thinking about Rhule running the show if a Jimbo move is made.
The way that program is supported m buy out might not be a problem even if it is very expensive to give Fisher the boot.

Giving Fisher the boot would be the most expensive firing in college football history. I think he gets all of that money.

The guy nobody here wanted has his contract extended as he is in the middle of his turnaround at Kansas, the one P5 program that probably worse than Rutgers or close to it.

Premature, IMO. That's like handing out an 8 year contract to a newly hired coach. Who does that?
But, apparently, other teams were sniffing around, so they felt compelled to do something for him. We shall see how it works out.

I’m guessing Wisconsin is going to promote Leonhard and Nebraska is going in a different direction and possibly to Rhule.

But only a Jersey Guy understands Jersey Football.

KC Keeler was technically a Jersey Guy but I guess not enough.
Was he? Born in PA. Played at Delaware. Coached at Rowan at Division III.
Fired from Delaware after going 2-6 in Conference and finishing 8th in Conference.
He's at FCS Sam Houston State.
The next stepping stone is usually HC at a G5 school. Was he interested in Rutgers?

Didn’t hurt to ask after going to 4 straight D3 Championship games and winning his first FCS at Delaware, esp after Schiano left late in the Coaching Carousel that year. Won his second FCS title and is considered one of the best coaches ever by ESPN and having only 2 losing seasons out of 29.

Definitely an impressive record. He had former RU QB Mike Dare after he transferred out in 2017 in the Ash error. Keeler is getting up there in years, and wonder why he never took the next step up to G5.

Speaking of Jersey guys, someone to keep an eye on is UNC OC Phil Longo, born in Red Bank. He had a short but unsuccessful stint as HC at a LaSalle in the MAC 2004-05, He made the move to UNC after two years as OC at Ole Miss. He was HC at Parsippany Hills 1996-99. Coincidentally, Longo played under KC Keeler at Rowan.
