LOL…because so many hardworking folks want to give money earmarked for high schoolers just so they can join your athletic department only to leave when a better deal comes around. More power to them and god bless if they can make $$ from it, but most people can think of hundreds of better ways to dispose of their money!Everyone on this forum should join.
Would be nice if NIL could be weaved in with the subscription of Rivals or 247.
So people can afford to pay $10 a month for this site to read about high schooler’s mood swings, but they can’t pay $10 a month to actually help improve our athletic programs?LOL…because so many hardworking folks want to give money earmarked for high schoolers just so they can join your athletic department only to leave when a better deal comes around. Everyone should just put forward what they feel comfortable with whether that be $0, $10, $25, $100 or $10,000/month.Asking people to donate $100 a month, on top of tickets , seat fees & minimum donation amounts, is not a realistic goal.
We get it. You don’t want to give any money. No one is forcing you to. But don’t get why you are trying to get others to not give their money? hardworking people can do what they want with their money. Maybe you’ll enjoy a different topic thread.LOL…because so many hardworking folks want to give money earmarked for high schoolers just so they can join your athletic department only to leave when a better deal comes around. FOMO, is my guess. We get it. You don’t want to give any money. No one is forcing you to. But don’t get why you are trying to get others to not give their money? hardworking people can do what they want with their money. Maybe you’ll enjoy a different topic thread.
No one is putting down the spending choices you make. Why do you feel you need to throw shade on how others choose to spend their hard earned money?LOL…because so many hardworking folks want to give money earmarked for high schoolers just so they can join your athletic department only to leave when a better deal comes around. Congratulations Knight177!Just joined. This is serious, we have to get on board with this NIL thing if we have any hope of being competitive. You can join with just $10. That's not too much to ask.

Sometimes saying nothing is the best choice.
Would you give "INSERT NAME OF FAVORITE NFL TEAM" $10 a month to help them win? I would support scholarships and facilities but when we start making teenagers millionaires I and many others draw the line. I can justify tickets or website because I am getting an entertainment value out of it.So people can afford to pay $10 a month for this site to read about high schooler’s mood swings, but they can’t pay $10 a month to actually help improve our athletic programs?
You’re either incredibly cheap, poor, or just don’t care that much about seeing RU win.
Just a philosophical difference. We get it. You don’t want to give any money. No one is forcing you to. But don’t get why you are trying to get others to not give their money? hardworking people can do what they want with their money. Maybe you’ll enjoy a different topic thread.
This…Didn't do a monthly, but did a one time equivalent of a $25 per month. Figured i skip/go lean on a couple of hobbies.
I know I don't move a needle, but 1000 of me might....
I hope you at least get a ride in a players new Mercedes for that money, but I am guessing the best you will be able to do is look at it in the parking lot and then go load the family in some crappy SUV and go home.Didn't do a monthly, but did a one time equivalent of a $25 per month. You’re going to hear nothing has changed it’s just out in the open.It is one thing to donate money to help build an athletic facility on campus or fund a scholarship, but why would anybody actually be advocating that a fan donate directly to a fund that will help make a player and his family millionaires? Not only that, but the player is not even under contract to play for you for x amount of years, he can take your money and then transfer to another university and take their money next year. Maybe it is just me, but I wasn't put on this planet to work and take money out of my own family's pocket to give to an 18-22 year old so he can buy a Mercedes, fancy clothes, plenty of bling and whatever other material items just so on a fall Saturday I can have bragging rights over another school's football fans for a year. Makes no sense to me.
The way I see it is I spend about $3K between season tix, parking, tailgates, concessions. I’d rather spend $4200 to watch a title contender than $3K to watch 4-8. and if that means these kids become billionaires i really dont care. All i care about is winning.Would you give "INSERT NAME OF FAVORITE NFL TEAM" $10 a month to help them win? I agree with your premise, everyone knows im not a fan of the concept of NIL. However, im also a realist and its here and we must do it to compete. If it results in these kids buying stupid **** or becoming millionaires, i personally dont care if it also results in us winning. And again, not everyone will be able to change their mind like me and be realistic and recognize its a necessary evil in 2022 and thats fine. But any little bit helps. Whether that be $25/month, $100/month or $1,000/month. I think its worth considering but again all your choiceIt is one thing to donate money to help build an athletic facility on campus or fund a scholarship, but why would anybody actually be advocating that a fan donate directly to a fund that will help make a player and his family millionaires? I was going to say the opposite. Coaches always solicit money for donations to schools. Now, the changes with NIL means there are two avenues how donations can help. @RUforlife, why shouldn’t the kids get a piece of the pie. Why is it ok for coaches and schools to get millions from the game these kids play. You’re going to hear nothing has changed it’s just out in the open.
Of course we know that’s a bunch of hogwash.
Never thought I’d see the day where coaches were outwardly soliciting the fanbase for money, especially in difficult economic times.
It must be very hard for GS.
Money goals and donations in the past were between you and your Rutgers liaison
What’s interesting is $1,200.00 donation would barely get you a return call from your season tickets, parking and donations liason a few years agoThe way I see it is I spend about $3K between season tix, parking, tailgates, concessions. I’d rather spend $4200 to watch a title contender than $3K to watch 4-8. and if that means these kids become billionaires i really dont care. All i care about is winning.

See the speech GS made at the RAC when he was hired. He asked for money.Coaches thanked you in the past, never solicited.
If your a BIG wheel, you got a seat at the table and shmoozed by the coaches.
They never solicited

It’s already happening. See Jonah Jackson. We can pretend it’s not happening.I won’t donate to NIL, but come at it from a different point of view. Personally, I’m not offended that these kids sought and will receive compensation. I suspect we’ll see some conspicuous consumption but we’ll also hear of kids saving the money and buying a home or starting a business. Either way, I don’t fault them for seeking compensation.
That said, the allure of college sports from an alumni perspective (at least my own) is connection. Connection to the school, and to the student athletes competing. At some level, everyone chose Rutgers. Granted, the variables may be different, but some combination of factors led to a voluntary, uncompensated decision to enroll at the school. I took pride that Schiano’s teams attended classes and avoided off the field trouble, for the most part. I’d rather have that kind of team with mediocre results year in and year out than outstanding on the field results but with the baggage of, for example, Penn State.
Pay for play combined with annual free agency changes that relationship. Now, the athletes are for hire employees more than fellow students. Yes, that’s reality and you can accept it and contribute or not. I choose not to contribute, not because I fault the kids for getting paid but because the fundamental relationship is now changed and I don’t want to be part of the new relationship.
I suspect I’ll watch the upcoming season as always, but if Schiano’s forecast of developed players leaving for more money elsewhere proves true, that’ll be it for me.
Grad transfer was Jackson. It’s already happening. See Jonah Jackson. We can pretend it’s not happening.
Well said . If people can afford the tickets and extravagant tailgates to watch a loser , they can afford to donate to get a winnerThe way I see it is I spend about $3K between season tix, parking, tailgates, concessions.
