If TJD got hurt then Indiana would have to play Race Thompson at the 5 or somebody named Logan Duncomb. Zach Edey is the only center listed on Purdue's roster (Caleb Furst would fill in I guess?)

Not many teams across the country can easily a long-term injury to a prominent big man.
I think they added another huge big named Berg. Also btw I believe Abogidi recently announced he’s going to the G Legue Ignite

I think something else to consider regarding potential center transfers is, Cliff likely goes NBA this season, if a guy comes in with multiple years of eligibility they could see a path to a starting role further down the line.

All this "Clif to the NBA" is very pre-matute.

He's going to be 22 years old before the 2023-2024 season starts.
NBA isn't exactly jumping at old centers with limited offensive skills.

Most likely he's in the same "RHJ/Caleb" situation of "declare, likely 2nd round to undrafted, announce return at the last possible moment".

Can I rile up @Greene Rice FIG ?
Wonder what type of NIL package Clif will look for/get before pulling out of next year's draft 😉

I'm going by the length and athleticism factors. Plus how much he developed yoy and in season as well.

So I'm hoping for similar development, a huge year and then him jumping.

But if he stays then that's great for Rutgers.

He is small for an NBA center. Not ready to come out, but when he does I think he is another bubble guy, like Harper. It is ridiculously hard to get to the NBA.

I think he has significantly better NBA prospect then Harper.

This does assume continued progression of his game of course.

6’7 1/2 I will concede. Look, all these guys heights are exaggerated. Harper is 6’5 1/2 per the NBA. Dean is not more than 2 inches taller than Ron.
Ron was listed at 6'6 so they gave him a half inch not 3 inches

You can't compare Ron and Cliff in terms of athleticism. Cliff is a freak for his size. He's a first round talent if he reaches his potential.

If everyone's height is exaggerated then it doesn't really matter that one player in particular is not as tall as his listed height.

Looked at the remaining PF/C options and man, it’s very slim. The only two who we’d have a chance with that would make a for sure impact is Mouhamed Gueye and Sy Chatman. Gueye would be an incredible get and fit for this squad, might be a pro after next season and is someone we recruited to some degree when he was in high school. Sy put up pretty good numbers for Illinois State last year, and MVC is for sure not a push over conference. Still, his defensive film leaves a lot to be desired, but he certainly can score and has B1G athleticism, but won’t be spacing the floor. His last recruitment article was in mid April, and the competition were good mid-majors, so he may be available.

The big man transfer market is a player's market. For guards it's a buyer's (team) market.

In the NBA he has a power forward’s size and body but a center’s skills, which will be a problem, and why I think he will be a bubble type draft pick.

I hate it, but for Cliff the human being it is great. He would have the ability to stay at Rutgers and probably make the right financial decision. If Cliff were to say make $250,000 (maybe structured as a forgivable loan so he can smooth out taxes over 10 years) and stay at Rutgers and continue towards getting an engineering degree it would be a win win for everyone.

Of course he’s be obligated to sign a few autographs and do a speaking engagement somewhere.

My guess is that you are going to see more variety / different offensive looks from Cliff next year. We saw some glimpses of a mid-range shot last year. Likely he will be working on his low post moves and might even see more 3's next season. I read that he came late to basketball and this is part of his progression.

In terms of the NBA - they are always looking for super athletic bigs who can run the floor - but as you indicate, probably in the 2nd round depending on his offensive development. With proper technique he has the ability to defend at least 3 positions and his wingspan, agility, hand size and jumping ability are likely top tier which might be intriguing for NBA scouts in spite of him being 22 next year.
