I expect Vedral to start week 1 but won't be surprised to see Gavin. After OSU I expect Gavin to be the full time starter.
No …huge misses in recruiting key positions will hold us back.Gleeson will hold us back.
Isn't the ball the program?100% Vedral. He is the program.
When I say this, I’m an arse!!! This is his second year with the program. If he’s not ready, redshirt him so he’ll be ready. Can’t have it both ways when a student athlete wants to start his career earlier than usual.Been in the program for a year come Sept , not a true freshman. Who said he isn’t ready, with that being said my money is on Simon.
I agree. Neither Gabriel, Williams nor Rattler were coming to Rutgers. I would have like to see Schiano go after D'Wan Mathis, but Wimsatt may have entered the portal if they landed him.You really need to go into more depth when making comments like this. How is this a huge miss? Which available portal QB was a legit / proven D1 QB? Where did they end up?
This post was a huge miss IMO. Our QB room is better than it’s been in many years.
If this was the case, then this would’ve been a good thing for Rutgers.I agree. Neither Gabriel, Williams nor Rattler were coming to Rutgers. I would have like to see Schiano go after D'Wan Mathis, but Wimsatt may have entered the portal if they landed him.
I don't know this and neither do you. Wimsatt has a big upside and he is a player that I want the coaches to take a chance on.If this was the case, then this would’ve been a good thing for Rutgers.
That’s why I said “IF THIS WAS THE CASE.” I’m not makingI don't know this and neither do you. Wimsatt has a big upside and he is a player that I want the coaches to take a chance on.
This is also the way I see it. Greg starts Vedral vs BC to limit turnovers. But if we fall behind by a few scores he brings in GW and ES. I expect Vedral starting Wagner and Temple and sharing more time with GW and ES in those games.Vedral probably will start the opener and that will be his last start with Wagner and Temple next. Schiano has historically started his prized recruits early. Hart, Teel, Nova. None of these guys were more experienced than Wimsatt. You don’t completely ignore the 2022 QB class to play Vedral or Simon. It shows us how confident the staff is with Wimsatt.
sureThat’s why I said “IF THIS WAS THE CASE.” I’m not makingout of my arse.
Agree. But the game moves at a different speed in P5 football than HS ball too. Would like to see Wimsatt get reps against Wagner.Think he got more experience by being here then if he had stayed in HS.
You only do that if Simon gives you best chance to win the game . Kind of simple actually.I’d give Simon a shot if Wimsat is not ready since he has shown glimmers of hope in the very limited opportunities he’s had. But looks like Vedral will be the starter according to the experts here.
Him and Quinn Ewers are in the same situation. Their timetable is almost identical give or take 2 or 3 weeks. If you take it on consideration that QE transferred to Texas, Wimsatt should be ahead. Who do you think will be the starting QB at Texas this year. Basically the same situation, why is one not ready and the other one is ready?Wimsatt is essentially a true freshman this year. He’s not ready.
Then the question is how many game do you think Vedral will win this year. If ii isn’t 6 or more we need to give the young guys an opportunity or we will be in the same boat in 2023.You only do that if Simon gives you best chance to win the game . Kind of simple actually.
Only if the back up can give you more than 6 wins that you referenced. Then the question is how many game do you think Vedral will win this year. If it’s no 6 or more we need to give the young guys an opportunity or we will be in the same boat in 2023.
No if Vedral, Simon and Wimsatt can give you the same numbers of wins ( over or under 6) you go with the young guys. They will need the exp for 2023. Basically if we aren’t making a bowl game with Vedral I would rather give the young guys the experienceOnly if the back up can give you more than 6 wins that you referenced.
Actually, the OL is the program. All this hand wringing is meaningless if the OL can't do the job. May as well run the Johnny Football package every play if that is the case.No. The hydration station is.
That’s a different scenario . You are saying all three give you equal amount of wins ? That may not be reality .No if Vedral, Simon and Wimsatt can give you the same numbers of wins ( over or under 6) you go with the young guys. They will need the exp for 2023. Let GW learn on the field this upcoming season. The 2022 team isn't bowl bound with any QB. The 2023 team should be, with an experienced GW.If that's the case, I hope the fans are willing to give him some slack because he will throw some WTH INTs.. unless there are miracle strides made in the offseason. Personally, I think it will be worth it.. the positives over his negatives. My 2nd choice would be Simon as I have seen enough of Vedral though his toughness is a good lesson for the other QBs and he might be better (Nova got better in his last year).
What is reality in this day and ageThat’s a different scenario . You are saying all three give you equal amount of wins ? That may not be reality .
I like what I have seen from Simon so far. That INT in the Spring game was not a poorly thrown pass. It was a good D back making a play and a WR who is no longer with us stopping instead of running through the play. Our fans have limited ability to do anything but blame the QB for every problem. Our biggest problem is we play some of the best Defenses in the country. Then our next problem was we didn’t have enough high quality players to compete with those teams. That has changed quickly and though we are not quite there in terms of star ratings, we have improved at every position in a very short period of time including QB.What is reality in this day and age. I think Simon will surprise people next year

Still don't believe he's ready to be THE guy this year and unseat a 6th year 3x captain BUT that's OK.
It's Gavin's team in 2023 for better or for worse so I'm hoping he can get some low pressure meaningful reps this year to get more comfortable. Minimize the mistakes when it's fully his team.
What are low pressure but meaningful reps? Seems to be an oxymoron.
Throwing against Wagner and then mop-up handoffs against everyone else isn't going to help.
It's the opposite. He needs to see high pressure reps by the end of the season.
Let him make the mistakes and growing pains this year so he can learn from them next year.
HC Schiano and OC Gleeson need to let him know they trust him and want him to take chances. Don't look over his shoulder and play scared. Use this year to develop for future success in 2023 and 2024.
QBs don't come to Rutgers fully developed and ready. They need time on the field to learn and work through mistakes.
He sees better competition in practice every day. However, if they do mix their coverages and he gets to see that at live speed with a pass rush then that is a bonus. His first play of his career was about as ouch pressure as he could see and he delivered and it helped us win the game. I am very high on this kids ability. There's no draft picks for losing games. Just your recruiting gets worse. Have to play the QB that gives you the best chance to win.
What I meant by low pressure meaningful reps is getting a lot of work in the Wagner game. The players on Wagner are better than 98% of guys he saw in HS. Let him get comfortable there where he will have time to throw (our OL will hold up just fine). Good confidence builder for him as he will continue to see more action as the year progresses.
The Wagner game will be the equivalent of playing a downgraded scout team. They will likely be riding a 21 or 22 game losing streak. Wagner would have trouble competing at the NAIA level. There's no draft picks for losing games. Just your recruiting gets worse. Have to play the QB that gives you the best chance to win.

That NH team went 10-3 that year and made it to the FCS playoff quarterfinals. I do get your point, but this current Wagner program is historically bad, and I mean real bad.Sorta like playing against New Hampshire![]()
Right, I don’t like that we schedule a lower tiered team that didn’t win a game last year. I hate these games because I don’t think we have anything to gain. That NH team went 10-3 that year and made it to the FCS playoff quarterfinals.
