Anyone have any news, rumors or insight into who's got the inside track to start next year?

(Sorry for bringing up Actual RU Football) LOL

I’d give Simon a shot if Wimsat is not ready since he has shown glimmers of hope in the very limited opportunities he’s had. But looks like Vedral will be the starter according to the experts here.

Vedral with an improved Oline will be able to highlight his skills a lot more. I expect the run game to improve which will allow for the RPO stuff to really come into play. I expect Wimsatt to get multiple series a game and to look for much more of a vertical game when he is in. I expect the Vedral stuff t be RPO based and roll out stuff with levels to read.

I'm pretty sure Wimsatt will be next year's starting QB; however, this year's starting QB has yet to be determined.

Nah. I'm not conceding that This Year/Next Year point. I stand by my choice of phrase. Everyone above you knew what I meant. 😜

As much as I appreciate what Vedral has done for us I was hoping someone would clearly overtake him for THIS year. (Bite me Spanky LOL)

Should be interesting to see how any QB plays if the OL is as improved as we hope.

Slow weekend huh?

Nah, I'm working now.

22 season has not kicked off yet so it’s still next season.

Next season is this fall. Next year is 2023. Semantics.

I think the big factor in whether Wimsatt starts this coming season is consistency. His skillset and upside definitely exceed Vedral, but his decision making has to match that. He has to be able to process and make decisions under tons of pressure while limiting the damage from that decision. Schiano highly prizes not turning the ball over as well as knowing when to cut bait, so forcing the ball into bad coverage or waiting too long to tuck and run all factor into who starts the season. Don't get me wrong, outside of injury the starting job is Wimsatt's in the long term, but maybe not at the beginning of the season.

This is probably spot on. First hand reports say he was the most talented QB by far last year but he needed to adjust to the college game. If that's still the case, we get a game manager this year as well . If Gavin isn't ready, I'd like to see what Simon can do.

Been in the program for a year come Sept , not a true freshman. Who said he isn’t ready, with that being said my money is on Simon.

He is a true Freshman essentially. He was a HS senior last year. Being in the program is great to learn how a college program operates but you can't discount experience.

Anybody know the outcome of Turay’s injury?
Is surgery necessary? I think a decision was to made right about now.

If true, we are going to have a long, long, long season.
If we want to win game one we should go with Vedral to start
We can't risk going behind early against BC with a raw and probably accident prone qb

If Vedral cannot move the team in the first several series we can always change

Huge miss by Schiano for not upgrading our QB situation. We still have no legit/proven D1 QBs on the team. Going to be another season of handoffs and handoff-like passes.

On a prominent college football podcast released this morning, A former writer for this site said he expects G. Wimsatt to start on 9/3. For what it’s worth.
If that's the case, I hope the fans are willing to give him some slack because he will throw some WTH INTs.. unless there are miracle strides made in the offseason. Personally, I think it will be worth it.. the positives over his negatives. My 2nd choice would be Simon as I have seen enough of Vedral though his toughness is a good lesson for the other QBs and he might be better (Nova got better in his last year).

That and not having any LB depth. Only thing that will hold us back

The hope here is that the O line is way better than before
Better running game and more time to throw would be nice regardless of who is qb
Even Vedral would do better with that

Vedral with a competent line can be effective against middling to low tier opponents but we're not upsetting anyone in the top 25, his ceiling is too low. That is unless our skill players play out of their minds.

You really need to go into more depth when making comments like this. How is this a huge miss? Which available portal QB was a legit / proven D1 QB? Where did they end up?

This post was a huge miss IMO. Our QB room is better than it’s been in many years.

If the O line is truly improved due to all the new players, then I agree w/you. I think Vedral could be very effective given a competent O line, both with his feet and with his ball handling. I think he would present some challenges to opposing Ds they don't see every day. And he has tons of game experience which I have to think will factor in strongly with the coaching staff.

I'm just not 100% sure how much better the O line will be this season, though. But also, I haven't seen anything beyond promise from Wimsatt to date. I hope he's progressed a lot, but it's pretty hard to know where he's at until we see him on the field in games.

As always, it'll be fun and exciting to see where we're at. But I think it's going to be the most challenging season of the GSII era. So I'm keeping my expectations in check for the season.

Since our last legit D1 QB was Nova in 2014, this is not saying much even if true. As I said before, we have no proven D1 QBs on the team. This is a problem.

Vedral probably will start the opener and that will be his last start with Wagner and Temple next. Schiano has historically started his prized recruits early. Hart, Teel, Nova. None of these guys were more experienced than Wimsatt. You don’t completely ignore the 2022 QB class to play Vedral or Simon. It shows us how confident the staff is with Wimsatt.
