Great round by Rory but he needs to do it when it counts. Even the Golf Channel analysts commented he tends to have these rounds to make things look better than they are, but hopefully he's on the path back to winning a major.

He was T9 going into the final round. Scottie just had a big lead. Credit to Scottie and credit to to Rory for shooting 64 on Sunday.

Wish I had seen Jack or Arnold play at their prime.
I saw them both play in the '80 US OPEN. Arnie was on the downside and was heading to the Senior Tour. Jack could still compete as shown by winning 2 majors that year.

On Saturday Arnie, making the weekend on the cut line, had the 1st tee time. Jack as the leader had the last. Jack won. Arnie finished around 60th.

Arnie received love from fans that Jack never did. 7-730am there were maybe 1,000 people watching Arnie on the range, actually cheering his practice shots.

Yup. He was the public course, weekend hackers boy.

The only other player I can think of to get anywhere near the fan love Arnie enjoyed is/was Phil and he just blew it big time.

It’s a whole other topic, but Phil really did blow it. Would have been so easy for him to be this generation’s Arnie, but his ego got the better of him. Damn shame, but he has no one to blame but himself.

I was thinking about how I feel after a 5-6 mile walk and I don’t have any rods inserted in my legs. Then you have to gather yourself and be totally precise and focused on a tough course when your body feels like sh$t. It really was an achievement to get through the weekend for him but he wouldn’t want to hear that.

That said, this should all be about Scheffler. Totally impressive and consistent all weekend long.
I walk 5-6 miles five days a week on a very hilly course. At least once a week we play 27 so it is 8 miles. I am a dozen years older than TW. Every once in a blue moon I walk a full 36 which is about 11 miles. No excuses.

He's been my favorite for a long time and he really did blow it. And it was all so unnecessary.

Did you have a near fatal car crash 14 mos ago? Do you have more metal pins, screws and plates in your leg than in a 4bbl carburator? If not, your story is not a legit comparison.
He finished 47 out of 91 world class golfers who tee'd off on Wed. You couldn't do that on your best day (at your home course) I bet. I know I probably couldn't.

Jack would have been amazing. He was bombing 300 yard drives with persimmon drivers.

Holy Crap. I recorded and am now watching some Golf Films shows. There's one about Jack's youth and early career. You weren't exaggerating. He routinely hit the ball 325 as a player in his prime. In 1963, with persimmon woods, steel shafts and (I guess) balata balls.

Him as a young man with modern equipment he'd be easily hitting with the big hitters of today.

I always figured with that old equipment he was hitting it 265 or so like the rest of the guys. He hit the crap out of the ball.

How 'bout that.

He was a big hitter but never put the short hitters out of business. Not sure why?

just weird he didn’t stretch the game like Tiger. just Surprised others didn’t chase the distance back in the day after seeing Jack’s success.
Few had Jack's talent back in the day. In my opinion the solid core golf balls changed everything. Plus oversized drivers. My 3+ today is larger than my driver in the 80-90's. Tiger came along right as they came out. Hitting the ball longer and straighter required the courses to be lengthened.

Phil spoke for the bucks is more like it and not the first poor gamble Lefty had to paid for.
Phil is known as a phony among the tour players. He’s a different person in front of the camera than he is without it.

Otoh the players almost universally like Tiger, who is one of them.

Phil is the architect of his own public demise imo. I honestly believe that the Tour has suspended him, for good reasons.

What is wrong with the Saudi league?
We do so much business with Saudis?
So why can't golf?
I don't get this position by players.
Jared Kushner took $2B from Saudis and Munchin a $1B.
And no one is upset by that, but if golfers make money from Saudis, all hell breaks loose.
There are journeymen in golf who need Saudi money to pay the bills.
Why should they be forced to live in poverty to make some statement about morality?

One small correction. Phil has always been known as a phony. However Tiger wasn't universally liked by other players until after the 9 iron to his face. He only hung out with Cook, Begay and O'Meara prior. He changed and the younger players that idolized him as kids joined the tour.

A line was drawn. As independent contractors they have the choice, play on the Tour or play in the Saudi league. You just can't do both. The Tour is protecting their brand and their partners. Their game, their rules, or go somewhere else.

That is not going to hold up in court. Players have right to do business with anyone they want.
PGA will lose this case.

How do we have a Master's thread and not one post from @WhiteBus? Did I miss something and he quit the board? Hasn't been seen since 3/11/22. Hoping he's on a European bike tour.
More like a break of most social media for lent. My last post was Fat Tuesday. The 3/11 was signing off this site on my little used tablet. I was on a European vacation. Belgium almost 2 weeks. Rode some of the Tour of Flanders route with 16,000 of my close friends. Lol. Watched the professionals the next day. Rode along the coast, into France, Netherlands and Germany. Great country for cycling. Cyclist have the right of way in most instances but cyclist must obey all rules of the road. Nobody rides bikes through red lights even if there isn't a car to be seen. It actually works! Never would happen here. People driving cars and trucks here think they don't have to share to road.
Only saw highlights of the first two rounds over there but landed back Saturday afternoon. Great tournament. This past weekend was great as well on a course I have played and enjoyed many times. Hilton Head is the best golf vacation area in the country.
Getting ready for Five Boro Bike Tour May 1st. With 30,000 of my closest friends, I'm so popular 🤣🚴🚴
Lots a time wasted on this board, especially fighting the old CE board people who have no where else to play. Bad enough my wasted time on here but damn those clowns need to get outside some more.

Jordan Spieth won last week while putting horribly. He led the field in strokes gained tee to green just like at the Valero. If he can fix his putting he will start winning more often. He missed a bunch of short putts including a 1 foot putt last week and was lucky to win in spite of it.

A shot to remember
"Dylan Frittelli on Twitter: "I thought this would be the greatest Par of my life 😲 I was assessed a 2-stroke penalty for “standing astride” my intended line of play during this shot. The rules of golf remain undefeated ✌🏼 🙄 @SportsCenter top 10 play maybe? https://t.co/KvnIIsXuQ9" / Twitter"

Cool shot and story but he knows the rules. Sam Snead used to putt this way (croquet-style) and that is why it was banned.

"Sam Snead pioneered croquet-style putting in the 1960s. The United States Golf Association banned this technique in 1968 by amending the old Rule 35–1."

https://www.pgatour.com/video/2014/01/02/snead_s-putting-stroke--a-rule-changer.html

the reason why it was banned (according to this) was Bobby Jones complained about it during the 1967 Masters
