1 game suspension. No different than the old big east. This is big boy basketball, a lot of s*** is going to be talked. The best punishment would have been rocking Howard or any of his goon squad square in the face, a 5 game suspension isn’t gonna do anything.

Was Howard warned after the reported incident with Maryland‘s Turgeon last year? If anyone at Michigan had warned him then, the punishment may be harsh this time.

Howard landed a hand to that dude’s ear. That’s got to be a suspension of several games at a minimum. I can’t imagine Bobby Knight doing that and getting off without serious punishment. In fact I can’t imagine Bobby Knight even doing that at all.

Don't care about Howard. I want to hear that Diabate is out Wednesday.
No question at all. Not even remotely worried he won't be suspended for at least one game. He was throwing multiple punches

The other part of the punishment should involve no interaction with the team for the period of the suspension. If he loves basketball, you take it away from him.

I honestly don't care what he gets beyond 1 game. If he and his 2 players each get 1 game, I'm fine with that. And yes, Gard and his player should be suspended as well.

I don’t see anyone in the media or any of the conference or school statements talking about the players at all. At least Diabate were throwing honest to god punches. And this is the guy having a meltdown against us after our game. Michigan will probably be better off with Martelli actually coaching the game.

I'm surprised they aren't mentioning the players throwing punches as well bc it shows that what Howard instigated was even worse than just his slap

In addition to being fired, the guy he hit should file assault charges. Can't let him get away with that behavior. Now I don't think Bobby Knight ever hit an opposing teams coach. He was the standard for bad behavior back in his era!!

Think regular season. Howard is a nice guy, but he’s a college coach, not an NBA player, and needs to act like one, regardless of how competitive you are. You can’t enforce discipline on your team if you can’t be disciplined yourself.

Big Ten offices will suspend him some amount of games for attacking another team in the conference. It will be up to the school to fire him based on his actions. Sadly, from the AD’s statement it sounds like he won’t be fired

Howard needs some therapy for sure. Andy Bernard on steroids. Difference is Howard struck a person, not a wall. If UM doesn't fire him they should be ashamed.

But he did throw a Puerto Rican police officer in a garbage can.

Don't be he's 100% getting suspended for 1 game. He was throwing multiple punches. Can't be no penalty at all for that
I’m honestly not convinced Martelli is a worse in-game coach than Howard. Will be interesting to see assuming he does get punished

Everyone thinks Martelli is a better coach lol

But no Howard, Diabete, and Williams is a net positive for us

I just watched the last 22 seconds of the game. Howard's premise is completely off-base. Howard applied a full court press when Wisky had the ball knocked out of bounds by Mich. Wisky had 4 secs to get the ball over half court, the refs told Gard if he took a to he would get a full 10 secs. Additionally Wisky had their reserves in, the to was appropriate.

Now when the handshakes were happening you can see Gard grab Howard rather aggressively - that should not have happened. It looked like Howard was just going through the motions of handshakes after the game.

What Howard did after that was completely unacceptable, the guy flew off the handle. There were a couple of UM players that threw punches and a Wisky player #0 that did too. All of the players should have multiple game suspensions, Diabate should be suspended for the rest of the season - earlier this year he punched Mag in the face.

Side note - I coached youth soccer and had a player cold cock another player while we were shaking hands. The game was physical and my team won 5-2. There was no reason for that behavior especially since the handshake is a representation of good sportsmanship. I spoke with the parents and no later than a half hour after the game the player, both parents and myself agreed, he was done and removed from the team. Period. Even though he was one of my better players and played goalie. I could not accept that behavior.

Howard didn't do anything with Diabate only saying that he didn't know anything happened and would have to review things. Leadership starts from the top.

From an RU @ UM game perspective, Howard is immaterial, but losing those guys would be huge for RU and they should be suspended for quite some time and Howard should be fired.
IMO It's not immaterial. It is a negative for us that Howard isn't coaching. The losses of the players outweight it though

Howard takes down his masks and says "I'll remember this sh*t" while refusing to shake Gards hand. Gard tries to grab him to get him to shake his hand and then grabs Gard by his shirt like he's Biff from Back to the Future. He then goes "Don't f*cking touch me" and points his finger directly in Gards face.

Howard is unhinged and needs to be at least suspended a few games if not fired. He needs anger management.

A head coach in this league with anger issues ? What could go wrong ?

Gard will not get out of this unscathed.... people will be hyper-sensitive and he is not without any blame

that said... there's just no place in this league for what Juwan did.
"I'm from the South Side" or "he started it" just doesn't cut it in the Big Ten

this ain't the olde Big East where people paid to see the fights.......... this is the Best-of-the-Best - Top of the Heap Multi-Billion Dollar business B1G

This is NOT the first incident........ it's endemic......

rest of the year, minimum.

He should cut a deal and be allowed to "resign"....
