Thanks, rudad. Ah, yes, my Lions! Believe it or not, the first "date" I ever went on, I took some unfortunate girl to see "Paper Lion" lol. Needless to say, there was no second date! Alex Karras is perhaps, my favorite player of all time...really a great player. And, he was the author of one of the great lines in the history on MNF..."And, there's Otis Sistrunk from the University of Mars"! Alex finally threw in the towel, I think when the Lions finally made the playoffs one year... and lost to the Cowboys, 5-0 (yes, that's right, 5-0!). Adopted the Lions, the Cubs and Rutgers as my teams as a kid. Not a lot of celebrations there...but I love(d) them all.
I remember watching the 5-0 game when I was a teenager in 1970. The Lions' glory days were in the 1950s. They won the NFL championship in 1952, 1953, and 1957. Schmidt was a rookie in 1953, and contributed to that championship as well as the one in 1957. You can read more about Schmidt's career at https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Joe_Schmidt_(American_football)

I use to love watching Jim Brown go against Sam Huff. Both were great players.
Yes, I was and am a big Giant fan, I watched
Brown run over many a player he was a great player, but the one player he did not dominate was Sam. Sam had his number.
Also I too never heard the press compare Taylor and Huff. Different games and times
Apples and oranges.

Ask Joe Gibbs that and see if he agrees.

Better yet, ask Ron Jaworski. That time out he called when he got to the line and couldn't find Taylor (who had gone to the bench for the play) was classic.

Damn. RIP.

He was a great broadcaster for the Redskins in the seventies and eighties and into the nineties, during all the glory years of the Hogs. He and Sonny Jurgensen were hilarious; Frank Herzog was there in the booth to settle them down and tell us what was going on.

Rip, Sam...
Listen to those three when we lived in DC. Both they and the team were great.

I'm too young to remember Huff as a player, but I remember this commercial being aired quite often when I was in high school.

Many people joked that Huff should have known better. People in NYC don't call it a cab, it's a taxi!

All three players were great. I was a huge Jimmy Brown fan when he was with Cleveland, and hated Sam Huff. Was a huge LT fan for the Giants (had to shift allegiance when I moved to Jersey and Skillethead Jr. was born and became a football fan).

The Giants had more good games against Brown than any other team did, but they didn't dominate him. They had some very good games against Brown, and Brown had some very good games against them. The Browns weren't as good a team overall as the Giants during that time.

As season ticket holder he was something to see live and in person.
