I’ve been tough on both. But this is the first game since last season that Reiber showed me something - and he was a huge part of the win today. Can he build on this is the question and be a legit backup 5?

Could kind of see Reiber in some flashes in the past, like there was something there but he just didn’t hit it yet. It was still of course surprising his performance today with 2 threes especially BUT I kind of have a good feeling … this is good too, because we have to have a backup center to spell Cliff that is legit, to compete in this league which is full of top Centers

If he can continue to do this Cliff and Reiber combo will be deadly. He just needs work on a couple more fundamentals and I think he’s ready. He showed today he has it. He just needs to be able to sustain it.

Reiber will continue to struggle on D against much of the B10 competition. He always had an outside game and can be effective that way if he applies himself.
Hes a good helpside defender.

He has no chance against guys like Cockburn, I think he could fare decent against Jackson-Davis.

Basically any one strong he has no shot

You're going to see a much different Reiber as he continues to put time in the weight room. He'll be a better post defender and rebounder. He's getting more confident offensively and he'll continue to be coached up to improve his footwork and body control down low. I also liked the little I saw from Agee today. He seemed less hesitant.

This. He doesn't have the strength to handle the bigger meatier 5's but can hold his own against others

The weight room is huge for Dean. Hopefully next season he adds a few lbs of muscle and is more equipped to bang

Gotta love those threes. If he can hit a few more then opposing bigs will have to come out to him... and maybe then we'll see if he can pass.

Good item for the to-do list.

On the downside.. a second game where our bigs were unprepared to defend a guy who goes left. C'mon guys.. KNOW who is a lefty and stop shading him to the right and falling for the fake move to the right.

Reiber needs 15lbs of muscle to have a chamce defensively. He looks 6'8" and doesn't have a long wingspan. Hopefully he can continue to develop his offensive game while putting on much needed size.

I posted a couple of weeks ago after seeing Agee flounder as a 5th senior making freshman mistakes that all of Agee’s minutes should go to Dean. I’m glad they now are! The kid is a project, but with freshman eligibility he’s definitely worth the investment!

It was nice to see Reiber make some plays offensively but I think the real need is for him to play some defense and rebound. Unfortunately those are still big question marks with his game.

Those knocking Reiber are somewhat off base. Watching yesterday ‘s game Reiber hustled , played within himself ( he is not a super athlete) however he runs well , can rebound , had a decent game and came away with 10 points. With Mowat out and Agee still a question Reiber is going to be getting minutes . He by basketball D-1 standards needs more muscle and time in the rotation. Pikiell seems to have gotten them to play a more consistent “ sharing the ball” , passing offense and that is why they need to not become complacent. Hoping these players understand the concept. Don’t take anything for granted.

to be fair, I don't see Cliff stopping the bigger big 10 centers from backing into the basket for a short shot..... our centers try like hell, and we just cannot do it....

it seems to be a situation that the opposing center spot is going to get its points and we have to stop the other threats on a team

Yes we will struggle inside stopping some B1G centers but as Cliff gets bigger and stronger and develops his skills inside he will be just as much of a load to stop.. Cliff will probably gain 10-15 lbs. over several years and remember foot quickness and speed will offset much of what he experienced the first 2 years. I like him taking and making those chippies from 10-15 feet . Needs to still work on using both the left and right. Needs to do more film work on those centers who just use their brute force. Omoruyi has worlds of potential still untapped.

Not many and I am talking not just the big ten have a chance against him but if we did what we did against Purdue and take three’s away and give his share we can beat Illinois also

Reiber is not as bad as some previously thought nor is he nearly as good as some are thinking after a very good game yesterday. He doesn’t become a different player after one good game. Let’s hope he builds on it but I’m all for him getting Agee’s minutes.

Reiber looks to have a decent wingspan to me
Who has a chance against Cockburn ?
Nathan probably stands the best chance bc hes the only one with enough size to hold his ground. Reiber and Agee stand no chance

Let Reiber play himself out of the backup center spot. He ran the floor quite well yesterday and teammates were looking to feed him though I think Dean wasn’t ready for the ball at times. I think yesterday’s game gave him confidence. Against PSU however Agee may be a better match up against Harrar.

Myles Johnson did a decent job
Actually, he struggled quite a bit vs Cockburn in the B1G playoff game last year. Myles got into foul trouble very early in the game trying to guard Cockburn, and fouled out after playing only 17 minutes.

I'm happy for him. He needed a confidence builder of a game. Obviously I don't know him personally but his general demeanor appears timid. That could be just the way he carries himself but he plays intelligently. With confidence, he's a contributor in the rotation.

I just think Dean needs confidence when the lights come on. Per the comments of Pike and his teammates - he plays well in practice. Now just translate it to game day - which he did yesterday - and we have an adequate back up 5.

I'm just as excited (more actually) to see Cliff hit those midrange jumpers. But both are showing a new dimension for our O, and also showing that Pike is willing to have them practice and develop this dimension of their games and has green lighted it for games.

If he gives up points in the paint and hits threes in the flow that's fine by me. Just have the other guy work for it.
Ya and as hitting those shots is more likely than him getting strong enough to handle the bigger bigs in the B1G, I'm wary of him hitting the weight room too much.

Calling him a center is a stretch to begin with.
