I honestly thought - like most folks - that we were done. I was wrong. So crow pie for me. It was spectacular. I will always remember it. I did see the 1989 a 10 game championship on TV but ultimately this was better.
There are two short term caveats for the short term and one for rhe long term:
1. If we had beaten Lafayette and UMASS OR DePaul, the game Sunday would not be as important as it has ever been. Now it is a MUST WIN if we want to be back on track for an NCAA bid.
2. Can we sustain this?? If we can beat the number 1 team in the country we should win the games against middling 10 teams and be competitive against the top ones. If we go back to what we’ve seen over the first month of the season then ultimately, we got a thrill we will always remember - but ultimately meant nothing in the course of this season.
3. Pikes recruiting remain as it is. But assuming we can at least get an NIT bid this season, he’s got to friggin RECRUIT off this win - both in the high school and transfer portal worlds. Because rhe way recruiting is going, this might be the last win against a top ranked team he’ll ever get beyond this year.
