I honestly thought - like most folks - that we were done. I was wrong. So crow pie for me. It was spectacular. I will always remember it. I did see the 1989 a 10 game championship on TV but ultimately this was better.
There are two short term caveats for the short term and one for rhe long term:
1. If we had beaten Lafayette and UMASS OR DePaul, the game Sunday would not be as important as it has ever been. Now it is a MUST WIN if we want to be back on track for an NCAA bid.
2. Can we sustain this?? If we can beat the number 1 team in the country we should win the games against middling 10 teams and be competitive against the top ones. If we go back to what we’ve seen over the first month of the season then ultimately, we got a thrill we will always remember - but ultimately meant nothing in the course of this season.
3. Pikes recruiting remain as it is. But assuming we can at least get an NIT bid this season, he’s got to friggin RECRUIT off this win - both in the high school and transfer portal worlds. Because rhe way recruiting is going, this might be the last win against a top ranked team he’ll ever get beyond this year.

Nice owning up to being one of the unhinged. A few other comments. First, it wasn't "most folks", just the other chicken littles who felt that they had to post. Second, Sunday is not a "must win". If we have a winning record in the B10 and win a game or two in the tourney, we're in the NCAA. Third, you don't seem to have learned anything since your last sentence in 3) is another "unhinged" statement. Take a deep breath and understand that teams and programs develop, along with bumps in the road. Being overly critical is what they do on talk radio, but it is not what makes a true fan.

I stand by the caveats. You can’t erase the CF we were at the beginning of the year

You are never as bad as your worst games or as good as your best. This team still has the issues it had before last night. We are capable of being a dreadful basketball team and also a very good one. We definitely can’t maintain what we did last night but hopefully we get more performances like that and fewer like Illinois.

Regarding recruiting.. the classes that gave us the 2019-20 and 2020-21 teams were not highly ranked. Pike was able to win without bringing in highly touted recruits. Was that a fluke or something he can repeat? Time will tell.
