Just curious, is Jacob Young second in # of listens and was it tops on the list until the Ash podcasts? Those both had higher potential for juicy story (even you must have advertised as such and rightly so in order to push your content) and gossip as it's human nature for many to observe or linger over a car wreck for the potential drama. And the JY and Ash podcasts, along with maybe a couple others on the list, clearly have a currency factor that former student athletes from a decade or more ago do not.
Chas Dodd is number 2. JY is 3 though. Everything you say is true. Very astute observation about the human condition.

but the irony is you hear a lot of “well that was a low blow!”. Maybe, but it’s what the people want!

Sure - that first part is easy. It’s about revitalizing the RU brand by realizing that without Ash, RU very likely never would’ve become the national embarrassment that it did which in turn should help cultivate the (always cautious) optimism that fans should now have about the future.

When folks group Flood with Ash (which unfortunately continues to happen without a focus on how dreadful Ash truly was) they also crap a bit on Schiano’s legacy because Flood moved up the ranks successfully within Schiano’s system. IMO Flood’s career at RU should be remembered more positively as that of as a guy who did very well for us as a position coach, but was asked to step into a HC role before he was ready and consequently made some mistakes. Over time with Schiano being here, I think this will happen more and more anyway but separating the Ash era from Flood through these things helps too.

#1) Yes.

#2) We never bashed him properly when he was fired because these stories were under lock and seal like the dang pentagon papers.

We get these cryptic pieces that don't mean or say anything. I wanna hear about Chris Ash from people that really know him. It's not enough to know, "players didn't like him".

OK, but why?! And did they not like him? Or did they hate his F&$%ing guts?
I'm glad you feel better.

I guess I felt perfectly fine the moment I read that Ash had been fired. So I have no need to do anything to feel better. I try not to dwell on things I cannot change. And, so far as I'm aware, none of us can change history.

If you really would discriminate in a hiring process against a kid, who aired grievances on a podcast, after getting paid $7/hour to work for the worst football coach in (arguably) the history of the Big Ten, then that's on YOU dude. That's a YOU problem. Not a Vinny problem.

I too would not hire anybody who publicly bashes other people. It's a glaring red flag. It's evidence of poor judgement and quite possibly of spitefulness.

Discriminatory in the legal sense? No. Checking people's social media history is no more illegal, unethical or immoral than it is to interview them. If people apply for jobs that require security clearances, and sometimes without that requirement, even more invasive checks into people's activities and backgrounds are made.

You don't like Ash, so you're buying whatever kid's selling about Ash. Most employers, however, have zero interest in RUFB and will simply view the kid as a potential troublemaker. How could they possibly know, and why should they care, if the kid is "right" about whatever he's said? They're hiring someone, not running investigations into people the potential employee dislikes.

Skipping past him will be an incredibly easy decision for them.

Agreed. Was merely trying to offer advice into what HR, recruiters, hiring managers and people with hire/fire capability look at. No reason to provide possible reasons to remove yourself from the process prematurely.

My reaction was more to do with the lack of providing necessary information to properly perform your duties in a team like setting. And less to do with Ash or airing grievances. Coming from a finance/trading background you need to be able to gather, understand and disseminate information quickly and trust that others are providing you with the best most up to date information. If you do not do all of those things there will be breakdown.

Nobody asked me, but emotionally, I've been stuck at roughly 13 since about 30 or so. Before 30, I was emotionally younger than 13. But, you know... I grew up when I turned 30 and got to 13. 🙂

Sorry but I think you have it wrong. Optimism is spurred by future prospects not rehashing past misery. Cutting ties with Ash brought relief. Hiring Schiano brings interest and optimism.

Also, I never grouped Flood with Ash. Only connection is that they were both hired on the cheap.

Ash was a disaster in nearly every way.

That being said, this guy and his "how it impacts me" stories almost makes one root for Ash to have fired him.

Does anyone think GS would tolerate the jugs gun not working btw? And be cool with all the divisive blabbing

Ash sucked here as a coach.....but I'm not quite sure what other coach or hiring manager would be frothing at the mouth to look to hire a rat who's willing to go on social media and readily bash his previous boss.

That’s sweet of you to be so concerned with his career prospects. I can tell you he’s gonna have plenty. He’s got an entire fraternity that’s gonna be throwing him job offers (myself included). Have a good night though buddy. Oh and if u wanna come see us for the temple tailgate would be great to have you

I never said you specifically grouped them together. What I said is that they are associated together all the time on this board and even in the media - the memo is basically that Flood set Ash up to fail and then Ash just finished the job.

Put another way - If we win 6+ games this year, RU fans will perceive GS as a miracle worker. I think it’d be better for RU nation in that situation to reflect back and realize that while GS is a great coach we were actually bowl eligible in half the 4 seasons that Ash wasn’t coach (i.e. RU coach isn’t this impossible job it’s just that Ash was truly that bad). GS will retire someday too you know….

also, the blame is on the school for not having a plan and on Greg for bolting despite promising he wasn't. The school is absolutely 75% of that imho.

Chris Ash vs Terry Shea. Both sucked as head coaches at Rutgers and ran the program into the ground. But there was one difference. Terry Shea was a really good guy who if you ever met him you felt bad for him. Chris Ash is an arrogant pompous and condescending piece of garbage who alienated most people with long associations to the program

Why do people still care? Very above average defensive coordinator and secondary coach , flop of a head coach isn’t really a unique story in the annals of college football.

Trying to make a name for yourself off of someone’s failures, not your own efforts, is precisely who I don’t want to have working for me.

Good for him, not everyone is as fortunate. Not a bad thing to be in a frat to help one's job prospects. Doesn't mean that will forever help him once in a job and/or going forward thereafter if he shoots himself in the foot. Depends on the industry/career path perhaps.

I suppose it's noble of you to defend him since he's a current brother in your old frat and you may know him well. Wishing MBV all the best in his final year on the banks and beyond.

I will look forward to hearing about all the job offers that are thrown at Vinny and updates along the way. Is he available for one specific industry? Or does his fraternity privileges provide him with any career he wants?

Is there really that high of a likelihood that employers Vinny applies to are going to know of him from this podcast? Seems like a bizarre debate going on in this thread.

It seems mow the talk is : The PAC,ACC & BIG are in talks about forming some kind of an alliance and the Big 12 isn't involved , except maybe some B-12 programs a poaching target that's part of the discussion.

I had based a lot of my speculating how the Big 12 could remain a P-5 Conference on their rumored talks with the PAC about an alliance between both conferences, if this 3 P-5 rumor bares fruit and an alliance is made, Southern Gentleman's prediction of the B-12's demise might wind up an accurate one.
My implications of THE B-12 surviving because of additions and an alliance with PAC are not looking so good now, I must admit

There is another important difference. Shea took over a small time RU program that had no brand identity. There was nothing to “destroy”. Ash went out of his way to erase the Schiano legacy and everything associated with it. Historic branding has to start somewhere and with RU it started with Schiano. No matter what you think of Flood, it’s impossible not to acknowledge that he not only understood/respected this but did everything he could to use it to help continue the program’s success. At minimum it’s the reason he was able to hold the recruiting class together and didn’t have a mass exodus of transfers.

Ironically though - the Ash disaster may have helped with long term RU branding. The $52 fan campaign uprise to get Schiano back got national attention.

Didn’t listen to the podcast (yet?), but fascinating discussion on Vinny.

Maybe he doesn’t get offers because of that interview. Maybe he gets some because of it.

Regardless, you always have to err on the side of caution when it comes to social media. That’s a lesson many people are learning the hard way. Don’t ask me how I know, lol.

Our opinions here are based on our own experiences and backgrounds. So, its unlikely we will agree here. However for a different perspective - perhaps you can survey athletes/assistants as there generally seems to be a certain code of silence when it comes to what happens behind the scenes with a program/coach. For instance, can you say with confidence that Vinny's position on the equipment staff would not be impacted in any way if he had his supervisor or the coaching staff listen to his interview? Would Schiano call Vinny down to his office and say "Great job Vincent, that Ash was a big A-Hole who tried to destroy my legacy?" ......or would Schiano say "I'm disappointed in you Vincent and have to cut you loose, no matter how difficult things get, no matter what, Rutgers Football is a family and what happens with the family should stay with the family".
