You might want to commend the players, but whoever recorded it and gave it to the press is downright WRONG, especially an edited version. The players had no right to put public a private conversation, unless Gard did something really "wrong or illegal" during that private conversation.

Coaches salaries should be capped, but that is not this discussion.

How would you like a private conversation that you were involved in in your office to be secretly recorded and made public?

I think I brought my kids up not to accept being disrespected. It doesn’t matter who it is. I commend the 7 guys for calling out their coach. They didn’t talk to a journalist. They said what they thought right to the coaches face.

I am vehemently against players monetarily benefitting from being an athlete while at school. However I am not in love with head coaches making 3,000,000. Players need to be treated with utmost respect. These 7 kids aren’t being soft. Brad Davison is not soft. A coach making 3,000,000 because you are making shots and treats you like a pawn on a chess board.

Stop. They are soft. Crying to your coach because he is not your friend is soft. Or he didn’t come out harder for Davidson? Davidson is a douche and you can tell that by the way he plays and they wanted gard to publicly attack people because he was a douche. Nothing to do with respect. Sometime a grown up needs to be a grown up.

Davidson punched a player in his balls down 3 under a minute to go… he should have been thrown off the team first for punching a guy in his balls and second for doing it with the game on the line…. Don’t confuse toughness with being an *******

I don’t know gard but he seems like he has personality issues and by issues I mean he is an introvert who would rather coach than gossip with the guys after practice…

Brutal situation for the Wisconsin program. Then again, Wisconsin is a conference rival and I dislike them. So not displeased. I hope a number of other conference rivals similarly implode.

It is going to be a strange season. I can see a few teams looks absolutely awful in January and come March look like a completely different team.

Predicting what the 14 teams are going to look like right now is near impossible. Like you I am hoping 5-6 teams are in the implode category. Minnesota under 'Lil Ricky was always almost a given

Millennials are the generation currently aged 24-40 so there are not very many of them left in college these days. Gen Z is the group that is college age right now.

Correct and they’re even worse. Have ZERO ability to take criticism and want everything handed to them on a silver platter. My friends who own and manage restaurants and bars are disgusted with most of the people they hire under 25 years old right now. They’re virtually impossible to deal with work-wise and complain about anything and everything.

Wow... How does this get worked out? I don't see a middle-aged coach, or any successful coach for that matter, changing his stripes at this point. These players probably would've been better off leaving for a situation that suits them rather than trying to tell the coach how to do his job. I just can't see this 20th century dog learning the kind of 21st century tricks these kids seem to expect from him.

Brad Davison is coming back but the rest of the players at that meeting have left the program.

Two transferred (Valpo and South Dakota) to other programs and the others are not returning and are attempting to do pro somewhere. There were four games remaining in the regular season when the seven seniors asked for a meeting with Gard and his assistants.

Remember, Wisconsin started the season ranked No. 7 in the country. These seniors were trying to finish the season strong and get to the NCAA Tournament but they, obviously, felt that they needed to air some frustrations out with their coach in order to go forward.

After listening to the audio, I don't think the players were asking too much. Seems like Gard lost his connection with some of his players. It was a crazy season, with covid and all. Wisconsin wasn't the only program where a coach lost his connection with players.

Wisconsin is a one party consent state for recording a conversation so would seem to be perfectly legal to record and release the conversation.

the ethics are a lot more questionable and I don’t have much respect for a person that would do it.

Looks like players were disappointed in their results and were looking for an "out".. for someone other than themselves to blame.

NOTE to current and future players who might read this nonsense... LEAD at the earliest opportunity and don't wait until the end of a disappointing season to blame someone.

If an assistant leaked this that is just more evidence that we have successive generations with ethics and personality issues. As for publishing the leaked materials.. I suppose if the publisher didn't do it someone else would have, eventually.

Since it's not the full meeting, we have to wonder if there were more said that made Gard look worse than what the 37 minutes made him look, or if he wound upo looking not that bad looking at what went on the full 2 hours.
I would imagine if he came out looking good in that meeting the 37 minute part of it would have had Gard supporters pointing out that the edited audio didn't tell all that went on in that meeting and have explained how the full story was different than what we heard in edited version..
Unless that happens what we know from that audio is what will be accepted

From what I read , it looks like any locker room squabble . This stuff goes on all the time , in every sport, at every level. Even tom coughlin went through this with the giants and had to appoint some “leadership” committee or something that O’Hara was on.

The number of high level Wisconsin basketball players that choose not to commit to go to Wisconsin is fascinating to me.

I feel like most of those kids just don't like Wisconsin's style of play. Last year was the first time since KenPom has tracked it (2010) that Wisconsin was not in the bottom 10 nationally in offensive pace, they got all the way up to 320th last season. Trimble was basically down to Michigan and UNC for the last couple months.
