At Trop there’s a wide difference in the quality of the rooms depending upon the tower you are in. Know what you have before you go. On the low end is the West Tower, with wood laminate floors, and no dresser in some rooms, and at peak hours the elevators can be VERY slow. The rooms are clean but bare bones.

Atlantic city could still be a jewel of NJ and a HUGE money maker if competent management was in place. The problem is the populace keeps electing democrats who literally destroy everything they touch. We are not going to get competent leadership from the dems. AC needs a long term strategic plan that makes the city a family destination and for that there will need to be tough choices made. Buyouts, eminent domain, whole city blocks rebuilt to make AC the crown jewel it could and should be. Then use that model as a blueprint to remake all of NJ's cities.
Quick story, when I went to New Brunswick in 1993, it was only 10 years after JNJ had rebuilt their headquarters. Most of the stores on albany and George st. were empty. I worked in NB for 18 years and saw the main part of the revitalization. By the time I left both George and Albany St. stores were almost fully occupied and many businesses had spring up on the side streets. City revitalization takes decades not years and AC while it has wasted a huge opportunity, it can still realize the promise that it offers but time does not stand still and other states and cities are allowing gambling. AC has one thing that no other city in the world can offer....1) The Atlantic Ocean and 2) access to NYC, and Philly live sports and entertainment. I can imagine one or more of the hotels in AC having a box in Rutgers Stadium and fly high rollers in for football and basketball games. Put a heliport near the stadium and fly the high rollers in for a tailgate and game. Of course this is NJ and a tie in like this will meet with all sorts of resistance not only from the people on this board but I cannot see Holloway going for this at all. NJ would always chose to shoot itself in the foot than to try something new and potentially profitable.

I’m pissed they charge the Full “ Resort Fees” while the Pools and Fitness Centers are closed. Total BS

No one will complain this kind of news. I think many have been hoping for that all along....more private and less from the State.

1. How are you going to pay for all these buyouts ect? If it was that simple don't you think every city in the country would do it? What happen to AC had nothing to do with party was in control. It was the expansion of gambling into every corner of the country.
2. Yes AC has the ocean....the problem is so does the entire east coast ad it only a draw for maybe 3 months a year. Gamblers go to gamble not sit on the beach all day. Likewise the casinos want to keep gamblers in the casino.
3. There are a ton of other casinos that have the same access to phill/nyc sports. It not something unique to AC. On top of that the last thing a casino wants to do is take a big bettor out of the casino. You don't want him at Rutgers for hours not betting.

Atlantic City draws more than 25 million visitors per year. For comparison Nashville TN draws fewer than 17 million.
AC isn’t for everybody, and maybe it’s not for you, but a lot of people enjoy coming here.

it for about fifty years. When our neighboring states started gambling I admit
we took a hit. But in the last several years we
have improved immensely. I usually stay a week several times a year. My favorite
has been Borgata Ocean Tower. But That tower
did not open So we stayed at Ocean Resort
which was Great even with Covit 19. On May 15 the Golden Nugett opens a 225,000 sq. ft. arcade for the young ones.

It’s got everything I look for. 24 hour bars and gambling, ladies, good food, sports books, a seedy edge on Pacific , boardwalk with the ocean breeze to help shake off the hangover.
And the AC expressway recently increased to $4.50. Lord knows where all that money goes
Strip clubs are surprisingly decent, too.
Wish they stop all the construction on the GSP which most of it is in South Jersey. Job program since it really isn’t necessary.

NJ casinos opened in 1978. I was involved in looking at and analyzing OC and the economic impact of gambling. The economic benefits never really transferred to the city and I think the “ship has sailed” as they say.
I am all about saying NJ is #1 but this is one area I might have to cede to the South (or North, Montreal).
Sit on the GSP in the two lane section heading back north on a Sunday and tell me that lol.
you know what... that would work... THEN.. after it is recovered..build some Section 8 housing in mixed developments..once you have a functioning city with jobs and HOPE of economic success.. of course.. you'd have to make people whole who are forced out.. I'd bet a bunch of developers and casino owners coud pony up some big bucks with right to develop certain sections worked in... being somewhat of a barrier island.. it is not like, say, long branch and Asbury park with an infinite "west" to it.. in AC "west" hits the bays

I can and do go down the shore during the weekday to avoid traffic. You telling me there’s still traffic on the weekend?
50 years ago I could get on the Troop radio and give traffic conditions is my area when asked by "operations", so they could put up their automated traffic report for call ins, WITHOUT being my my assigned area.
Now I can give the same report from Toms River to the NY State line, NOTHING has changed on the GSP during commuter times other than the length of the traffic jams......and the $ charged for the tolls. I can even tell you which SPECIFIC lane to be in from Asbury tolls North/South during the same times. 287 same thing.
To paraphrase an old Gov Kean ad jingle; "New Jersey and Traffic, perfect together."

We go to Stone Harbor and the Cape May area very often. Traffic still gets pretty bad at peak times (Friday evening and Saturday morning/lunchtime) heading south between the ACE and first OC exit (30). This is mainly due to a lane merge, going from 3 to 2 lanes. Extending the 3 lanes to exit 30 is a no-brainer.
Not sure about heading back north. We never have a problem, but we normally go home on Saturdays. We can also use 55 and 47 to completely avoid the GSP.
I am curious where and who has given the 25 million visitors per year to AC, since that is over 68,000 per day, every day of the year ? Seems like a lot.
