I have been watching college basketball for over 60 years and this just might be the greatest college basketball I have ever seen. I believe UCLA will be a Top 10 team going forward and that Gonzaga will very likely be rated # 1 again next year. They have the # 7 recruit in the country for next season and it appears they will get the # 1 player very shortly who went to the same school as Suggs in Minnesota and is a 7 foot stud.
The UCLA big man Riley had a great game, sinking outside shots. Only player with a double double in the game
Getting blocked stung, but Suggs is a star. That block is a play you could see Michael Jordan making.

I've been scrolling through lists of the best all time CBB games. Duke-Kentucky and Duke-UNLV + NC State-Houston and Villanova-Georgetown + North Carolina-Georgetown were my top 5. I don't need to mention the year for any of these games - anyone old enough knows these games. UCLA-Gonzaga just got added to the list and one the others drops out of the top 5.
Personal opinion but Gonzaga needs to finish it off Monday night. If Duke turned around and lost in the national semi-final after the Laettner shot, while still incredible, it wouldn’t be AS iconic as it is. But yes, this entire game and the OT sequence especially is on par with Kentucky-Duke 92. The lead changes, the clutch shots, the buzzer beater. Again, shout out to UCLA. Couldn’t have played a better game.
The Laettner play seemed to lead to teams always putting a defender on the inbound passer in similar situations. I wonder if this play will make teams work on making the ball handler change direction in the backcourt. Suggs had a clear straight path to get that off. Of course you wouldn’t challenge the release and risk fouling, but even forcing him to change direction once before he crossed mid court could have been enough for him to not get the shot off in time.

With about 4 minutes left and Gonzaga up by 1, I decided to take a look at the live lines on 3 sites. Two had Gonzaga-3.5. Fanduel was at -2.5. Boy, am I glad I did a little line shopping!Cha Ching!!!
I agree it’s top 5 . I am not sure which you drop out . Villanova -Georgetown was a perfect game by Villanova , but not as great of a game as the others

My favorite time of the year:

Watching Suggs on D reminded me of JY’s D. Kid is physically gifted. Plays like a senior and not a freshman.
Yet, it wasn't a 3 point borefest like the NBA. Gonzaga actually had a ton of points in the paint. Riley for UCLA was outstanding. Both teams took 17 3-pointers, in the NBA teams would have 17 3 pointers by the second or maybe even the first quarter.
That's because those people reflexively hate the NBA.
The NBA is boring because of the amount of 3 point shots taken. Plain and simple. In the NBA, defense is not a priority. It can't be when some guys shoot over 40% near halfcourt. That makes the game boring and monotonous to watch.
Bring back hand checking, remove the corner 3 and move back the 3 pt line so only the best can make it at a decent clip.

The median 3 point rate in the nba vs college is nearly identical it’s like just over 1% different. This is just narrative lol

While both were regular season games I would have to include the 1968 Houston-UCLA game in the Astrodome in front of 60,000 where Elvin Hayes just went off and the Coogs won by 2. Biggest viewing audience of all time . Lived off campus my senior year in a house with some teammates and I think we must have had 30 people in our living room.
Would also include the 1974 ND win over UCLA where we broke their NCAA record 88 game winning streak 71-70 on a comeback that was virtually impossible.
We were living in Chicago then and I got a call from one of my former Professor's who couldn't use his tickets so the wife and I went. We both consider it the greatest sporting event we ever saw at Notre Dame.
Down 11 with 3:30 to play----no shot clock----no 3 point shot in that day. Bruins have Bill Walton and Keith Wilkes--------we put our coats on figuring maybe we beat the crowd because by all rights it's over.
But 2 Jersey boys John Shumate and Gary Brokaw fueled an amazing comeback and the Bruins miss 2 point blank follow ups at the buzzer after Dwight Clay sticks one from the corner to give us the lead with 20 seconds to play.
We were about 30 rows up from him in that corner. I thought the roof was coming off the building when he knocked it down.
Every now and then I watch it on Youtube----the replay of the last 3 minutes with Dick Enberg calling it is fabulous stuff.
For me it’s about the ball movement. You don’t get that in the NBA. This was a beautifully played game.
I am guessing I wasn’t only one watching with an eye on how Myles would fit on UCLA. Riley definitely an asset knocking down 15 footers. I think Myles would have made a big presence with Timme
You don’t even have the best NCAA game of all time. The 1974 double OT thrilled between Bill Walton’s UCLA and David Thompson’s NC State is number one.
Gonzaga missed some critical foul shots prior to OT.This was a outstanding college basketball game between teams that have players that can create and make baskets off the dribble.So many outstanding plays and the game being won by a freshmen with a banked jump shot more than 40 feet from the basket.

Evan Mobley is generally considered by all to be a Top 5 pick this year.
Doubtful he returns.
