I mean its good for the blue bloods and we have reaped it’s benefits on occasion. But more often, it takes things away. Time to reform?
There are 13 scholarships per team and about 340 teams or so. That means roughly 1 out of every 5 players in college basketball is in the portalI heard on the radio this morning that Coach K said there were 800 kids in the portal already
can you imagine you are at school and you wanted to transfer but someone said if you transfer you cant have _ex for a year. We will allow you to hang around and watch people, but you can’t do it.I think its a bad thing because its out of control now

When I think of rampant transfers I look at Nebraska's program and the constant influx of players and their lack of cohesiveness....
I like that kids have the freedom to move instead of abusing the hardship rule (which became a joke) but I wonder if we're going to see a few years of wonkiness with kids jumping around for greener pastures only to find that there's 'no place like home' and it stabilizes at some point...

What is the portal? It's just a simple and effective way for coaches to know that there is a player who is transferring and now he can contact that player without violating any NCAA rules. Kids don't even have to tell their coach that they want to enter the portal. They can simply go to a member of their school's compliance department and give them something in writing (I think an email is acceptable) saying that they would like to enter the transfer portal.I mean its good for the blue bloods and we have reaped it’s benefits on occasion. Agree this year is a total shitshow...with the extra year of eligibility and all, NCAA caught flat footed as usual. No idea of the repercussions. It needs real reform. Grad transfer...ok. One time move if coaching changes, ok. Can’t be a free for all every yearI think its a bad thing because its out of control now
I believe...that once a player enters the P...the school is no longer required to honor the scholorship. If that is truly the case, then basically the only leverage a coach has. You immediately start recruiting and getting a commit from another player.“I think its a bad thing because its out of control now.”
Agree with Bac. I think it’s a blight. How many players looking to transfer UP are going to find that there’s little to no interest? And then when they want to come back their coach/school has the attitude, “Well wait a second, you said you wanted to leave”? Not a healthy situation.
Lol....just before I got to your post I said pretty much the same thing. And once you enter yourself in the portal your current school is under no obligation to take you back. There are going to be a lot of sad stories written next season about guys that misjudged the situation and ended up nowhere or in a crappy situation. Incredible to think there are almost 1000 freaking players in the portal and it’s not even April.

Correct
Russ is right also----many HC's are glad these guys are leaving because they were poorly evaluated out of HS.
I disagree on how it will effect the mid majors .
Many schools are going to end up with guys they couldn't get a sniff from out of HS simply because the kids don't get the interest they thought that they would get by entering the portal from the Power 6 leagues .
If I was a mid major HC I keep 2 scholarships in my pocket till May and let things shake out.
