Problem with Ohio State and such programs is that you basically become the “pro” team for your area. Aka more OSU fans than Bengals or Cleveland Browns. Not alumni, or fans of the school, but just generic sports fans who are sometimes the worst people. The dudes that listen to sports radio, have jerseys for teams from 6 different cities that they never lived in, talk about their fantasy teams on social media, etc

Sad. We were walking around Indy yesterday and we saw fans booing a team walking into the practice facility. It was sad.

Social media!!!! where psychopaths who’ve been around for thousands of years and ALWAYS will be.
Now have a place to make their voices heard and terrorize others.
Progress....

I think twitter should only have real names. First and last then remove the delete button. All this bs would end. It would be great for politicians, scientist, journalist, athletes, random target employee, etc....It would make everyone more accountable.

We going to say social media is the problem when these boards have been around longer? We have a poster on here who spent years saying a particular player wasn’t a D1 player and most recently is concerned with whether a players mom is single or not. And moderators do nothing

Our society is getting uglier and uglier by the day, and social media is accelerating the pace of its decline. Problem is too many people simply live horrible existences and now they have anonymous “access” to people they shouldn’t.

Huh? There are those on this board who feel they can criticize/ attack our players as if they've pros -- some are the very " experts" writing dissertations about out games-- only a win softens their narrative

You just described your average fanatic sport fan who lives and dies with their team.
It’s called sports talk

what I posted in the other thread...

5 words....Find AND prosecute those Aholes.
just terrible. Some folks hear say some pretty nasty things but I do not believe we have fans that would threaten a player like that on facebook.

What is a person who writes dissertations about games and are only happy when we win
Sounds like a fanatic to me.
Huge difference between being critical and attacking.
What can you say about Tez’s performance last night without sounding critical?
Obviously, death threats and personal threats should be treated as a criminal offense

Geez. It's more than that some attacked Geos right to express himself -- if you feel some dont cross the line when it comes to kids- which they are- that's your issue

Yup,
Fanatics who feel a player is possibly jeopardizing or compromising our chances to win will criticize that person.
I don’t think it has anything to do with stiffling free speech

I think message boards fall under the overall social media umbrella, just that their earliest versions started several years earlier than the latest generation of social media platforms. It's really no different nor is the worst of the behavior.

You should believe it, no way I'd put any D1 fanbase beyond that. It's what happens when we as a society professionalize so-called amateur athletics. Brings out the worst in some people. Not limited to American fans either, happens all over the world where it might be just professional or national level even if they don't have intercollegiate competition to the level it is in the US. Truly disgusting in all cases. It's only a friggin game afterall.

Have always had a problem with criticizing players who aren't good. Poor effort? Sure criticize away but lack of talent is not their fault its the coaches who recruited them so let it rain on them if you feel the need to express your displeasure.

If real names where used instead of handles this board would be completely different. The fans here are just as nasty look at Geo’s thread and every game thread.
