what part of THIS HAS NOTHING TO DO WITH TONIGHT are you not getting. This has to do with being blown out by Nebraska, needing an epic comeback against Indiana, coming very close to blowing the game against Minnesota (JY saved the season), and no good wins in 2021. We are limping into the tournament with no offensive sets , bad shooting, and more importantly, we are not rebounding or playing good defense which was the staple of last years team. The frustrating part and the reason I am so down is that we HAD the talent to be so much better, if one person can honestly tell me that the 2021 version of this team is exceeding expectations, I am happy to buy you a steak dinner at a restaurant of your choice

people are emotional. agree with you that the body of work means that we are an NCAA tourney team, but since that Ohio state game, we’ve been subpar. They have been out of sync ever since.

I never said we dont belong in the tournament based on our body of work - I am simply saying that SINCE the Ohio St game, this is not a NCAA team - we are in the tournament based on our very good start -....This team is really hard to root for, we have wasted our talent - some day we will find out what went wrong, but last years team with less talent would easily beat this years team 6/7 out of 10 times
“Fans” like you suck

Go root for another team

We have not been subpar. We got screwed by the officials which changed the trajectory of this team. Yes, we have been up and down, but we're still a very dangerous team that can beat any team on a given day.

We're 8-7 over the past two months, all against B1G teams, with losses coming to Iowa, Michigan, Illinois, Maryland, and Wisconsin. Those are good to excellent teams. Nebraska was the only bad loss. That isn't NIT? C'mon man.
What is our record in that span vs ncaa teams?

the 1 win was against MSU when they were terrible

Such a terrible take. You don't make the tournament based on last year results. We beat Illinois, Purdue, Syracuse, Maryland, MSU, Indiana 3X, Minny 2X. We were a 7 seed in the best conference in the country (and maybe best all time). Last year we were an 8 seed. We're a good team. Not great but good.

Apologies to anyone who thought I was referring to the 2019/2020 team that played with heart and soul, my comments are SOLELY based on our performance IN THE YEAR 2021, or more specifically, our resume and the eye test since that Ohio State game. I can understand where the confusion came from

We are in the tournament based on our 2020 performance...if you looked at the 2021 edition, there is no way we are in the tournament... Last year's team never got outworked or out hustled, this year's team lacks energy and chemistry, mopes around after bad calls and is a horrible shooting team. I don't think the seed matters, I have a tough time seeing us winning a game unless we are somehow playing Indiana...

What is out best win THIS year...I can pick a few games as our worst loss..

Sorry if I seem like THAT guy, but this team is really hard to root for

It’s post like thins that tell me that we have arrived

We went 11-11. in the best confrence in America ...and some people are saying the best confrence in a decade.

We played SEVEN games...SEVEN...against teams that will be NCAA 1 or 2 seeds.

Let that sink in ...

Take the 1-6 out of that ...we went 14-5 against teams not in the top eight in the county ...

And was 11-5 in those games against teams from the bjg ten and acc

We had a really good season against a monster schedule

Everyone saying nonsense tonight needs to step off the ledge and just enjoy Sunday and every game in the tournament we play

We still may yet make a run ....

Am I taking crazy pills?

Did we not finish conference play going 7-4?

Epic comeback against Indiana? We were down 10 with 28 minutes left in the game? If that was an epic comeback what was the northwestern comeback last year..

Unfortunately this will be the go to logic for our disgruntled fans. Blindly complaining about coaching, offense and work ethos with no real data to back it up.

There is one bar to measure success this year and that is the ncaa tournament. We will find out Sunday if achieved that goal.

sometimes it feels as if you guys don’t watch basketball.

It's amazing how ignorant you are. This team under Covid conditions comported themselves just fine. If we have played a full non conference schedule we would have over 20 wins. This team is very deserving of an NCAA bid just like last year.

We are a good team. We are definitely a tournament team.

it’s only frustrating because we have sometimes maybe the wildest swings of any team out there. Sometimes we are playing out of our mind that you’d think we could beat Gonzaga, raining threes, alley oops, no look passes and dunks. Other times we look so bad, you’d think we could be last in the league.

Decided to start watching the first Illinois game on BTN+. It just feels like a different vibe on offense. Either physically they are just beat up now or they are just playing too uptight for whatever reason. Illinois likely is better now, but our movement in the first game feels like it was faster and with more purpose. They should just watch some of their old games. Maybe it’ll get their mojo back and start having some fun.

Maybe this early exit was a blessing in disguise.

With all due respect, rejoice that we'll be in the Dance !

Yes this team has warts and is not as good / fun as last year's team but at this point who cares? Let's celebrate on Sunday and hope for a win on Thursday or Friday !

And if we're a one and done - so be it! At least I don't have to hear" the school that has not made the Tournament since 1991" any,more.....

And personally for me, I have been a fan since 1995 so this will be my first time seeing us play in the Dance and hearing our name on Selection Sunday and how sweet it'll be....

Can you please tell me a single that is fasle about my post. Can you please tell me if this team has outperformed your expectations IN 2021. No one has said that we dont deserve to be in the tournament but I believe @Greene Rice FIG just summed up with numbers what I was trying to explain in words - since Jan 2 we are the 64th ranked team in the country, but our net is in the 30s due to a very strong start

To those who say F**it, we are in the tournament and you are an ignorant Ahole, my OP and subsequent posts are simply to point out that for the last 2 months we have significantly under-achieved our talent level and since the OSU game, its like someone flipped a switched and took us from a good team (right outside the top 25) to barely a NCAA team, and barely by the slimmest of margins, if not for the JY steal and the epic comeback from down 15 against Indiana , we might be sweating it out on Sunday

Sorry. Nothing wrong with an observation that we haven’t played well, especially offensively, for a long time.

bunch of emotional people here that don’t want to hear it. We’ve been very shaky against the weaker teams and not really competitive against the good teams since that Ohio State games. Its been a tale of 2 seasons.

nobody is saying we shouldn’t get in. We should based on the full body of work, but anybody saying we’ve been playing like a good team the last 2 months hasn’t been watching

What a pathetic posting. Obviously this guy is not a real fan. All 26 games that we have played count during the season. We are rated # 31 in the country in Kenpom, # 35 in the Net and # 30 in Segarin out of 357 teams which puts us in the first 8 % to 10 % of the teams in the country. Our schedule is rated the 6th toughest in the country and this guy is criticizing us. I really believe he should find another team to root for. It does get tiring to have these horrible posts that take place every time we lose a game. The BIG has 4 of the top 8 teams in the country, 6 in the Top 25 and 10 in the Top 40. Get a clue already.

This isn't complicated. We played a tough schedule, including three of the very best teams in the nation, a total of five NCAA teams, and only one clunker of a team and go 8-7, and you say that isn't good enough for the NIT. And that is simply wrong.

8-7 with that schedule wouldn’t be NIT.
Good news is that 1st 1/3 was great.

Lets see.....113 points in 1289 posts or 113 points in 15,758 posts. Please look at the facts before you go off spouting ignorance and perhaps read the ACTUAL post instead of just making an ignorant interpretation. I have said 10x that we belong based on our overall body of work. I have said 10X that we are not a good team since the OSU game and FOR THE YEAR 2021, not the 2021 SEASON. I am also saying that our CURRENT PLAY (ie. NOT TONIGHT but THE LAST 2 MONTHS) is under-performing out NET ranking and we are in the tournament by the slimmest f margins, but having been a REAL FAN since 1980 and living with one of the Captains of the 1984/1985 team, I am very happy with the overall job Pike has done getting us to where we are

This is a MESSAGE BOARD and the point is supposed to be to have intelligent discussion , as people like @Greene Rice FIG , @ouchmyknee,@rutgers25 and even @kyk1827 have all demonstrated. You might not like their takes, but calling any of them ignorant (ok, sometimes kyk can be a bit extreme - lol) is just ignorant in itself, the point is to present facts to counter the ACTUAL post, not your incorrect interpetation of what you think the post meant without actually reading it

Special shout out to @kyk1827 , who I often disagree with, especially about Covid, but was the first to point out even when we were still in the Top 25 that our offensive sets were severely lacking and barring a night when we were just draining 3s (not very often) that this would be the Achilles heel of this years team

I don't think your point is entirely wrong but you don't get to throw out the win against MSU because it was "when they were terrible" and also if you select a time span strategically you will be able to make any team look worse than they actually are.

what do you mean shaky? We are 8-4 against the teams behind us in the standings. What is the average spread in games this year in the big 10. I don’t know the answer but I can’t imagine we are the only teams winning by single digits.

why can’t we just be in a tough league where everyone win is earned regardless of opponent? Why is it that we are shaky?

as far as good teams go we beat illinois, beat purdue, lost to Iowa but 2 and 13,lost to Wisconsin by 6, lost to Michigan by 7. The only team who beat us good twice was Ohio state. In which we fell apart at onio state.
If we are shaky against the bottom half of the league than the question that needs to be asked is why was illinois, Iowa, purdue, Wisconsin and Michigan shaky against us?

So if there's 68 teams invited, we're in! :Chop banana::Chop banana::Chop banana:

Odds are we will be one and done and just happy to be there. After 30 years, I'll take it!

Incorrect, if we are the 64th ranked team, we are on the outside looking in - . There is a little thing called automatic bids and I would estimate that more than 5 of those qualifiers would be ranked below 64, which is what makes March so fun.

But I completely agree , after 30 years I am just happy to be there, but this team had so much potential to be a Sweet 16 or better when the calendar turned to 2021.

we were a better team early in the year the first time we played Illinois, Purdue and Iowa. The whole point of the OP is talk about how we’ve played the last 2 months. We were not competitive Michigan. They were rolling with double digit lead and slept walk a little but was never in doubt. Let’s not forget getting blown out by the worst team in the league. Not to mention being on the brink of losing to a depleted Minnesota team. Maryland wiped the floor with us on our home court. It’s just a different team than earlier in the year. Not sure why there is an argument here. If I had to re-rank the big ten based on how we’ve been playing lately, I’d have us 11th ahead of just Nebraska, northwestern and Indiana. Penn State is a toss up.

I’ll be rooting like crazy for us in the tournament and am holding out hope that we’ll do better vs a non big ten team

Dumb post. We are making tournament based on this year, not last year. We won 60% of our games, finished tied for 6th on what people said was toughest league ever and beat one of the top 2 or 3 teams in the ncaa. So we are a good team.
