Dumb post. We are making tournament based on this year, not last year. We won 60% of our games, finished tied for 6th on what people said was toughest league ever and beat one of the top 2 or 3 teams in the ncaa. So we are a good team.

Dumber reply after the countless posts stating that 2020 means November/December of 2020....Pretty disappointed at the level of comprehension of many who can't understand this simple premise or think they are better fans than those who watch every game and can clearly see that something just doesn't feel right about this team.

On a somewhat funny anecdote, I remember when the Flood to Princeton news first broke, and a contact of mine in the academic athletic department told me Flood would be suspended at a minimum and probably fired. When I posted this, people had the same reaction, that I was just trolling and no way could Flood be suspended over such an insignificant incident...Many of those posters are in this same thread, and IF we lose our first game, will be calling out the team/coach on this very message board

We are in the tournament based on our 2020 performance...if you looked at the 2021 edition, there is no way we are in the tournament... Last year's team never got outworked or out hustled, this year's team lacks energy and chemistry, mopes around after bad calls and is a horrible shooting team. I don't think the seed matters, I have a tough time seeing us winning a game unless we are somehow playing Indiana...

What is out best win THIS year...I can pick a few games as our worst loss..

Can you please tell me a single that is fasle about my post. Can you please tell me if this team has outperformed your expectations IN 2021. No one has said that we dont deserve to be in the tournament but I believe @Greene Rice FIG just summed up with numbers what I was trying to explain in words - since Jan 2 we are the 64th ranked team in the country, but our net is in the 30s due to a very strong start

To those who say F**it, we are in the tournament and you are an ignorant Ahole, my OP and subsequent posts are simply to point out that for the last 2 months we have significantly under-achieved our talent level and since the OSU game, its like someone flipped a switched and took us from a good team (right outside the top 25) to barely a NCAA team, and barely by the slimmest of margins, if not for the JY steal and the epic comeback from down 15 against Indiana , we might be sweating it out on Sunday

One falsehood was that we had no good wins in 2021. @Indiana is a Q1 win.

Show me a team that is "barely a NCAA team", and I'll show you a good team. Bad teams don't get to dance. We, of all fanbases, should know that.

you said we are making the tournament based on THIS year and literally quoting facts about THIS SEASON....If you look at our body of work in just 2021, we are barely making the NIT, no less the NCAA....

What is so hard to understand that our play AFTER 12/31/2020 is just not good. And to the poster sating Indiana is our best win in 2021, thank you for proving my point, although I think the Maryland win, AT Maryland, was better

We are a good team. We are definitely a tournament team.

it’s only frustrating because we have sometimes maybe the wildest swings of any team out there. Sometimes we are playing out of our mind that you’d think we could beat Gonzaga, raining threes, alley oops, no look passes and dunks. Other times we look so bad, you’d think we could be last in the league.

Decided to start watching the first Illinois game on BTN+. It just feels like a different vibe on offense. Either physically they are just beat up now or they are just playing too uptight for whatever reason. Illinois likely is better now, but our movement in the first game feels like it was faster and with more purpose. They should just watch some of their old games. Maybe it’ll get their mojo back and start having some fun.

Maybe this early exit was a blessing in disguise.

Couldn't agree moe- in the beginning of the season we had multiple guys who could get us 15 a night. And then.....

RHJ could not buy a 3
Montez regressed severely
Cliff never lived up to his billing but has a great ceiling going forward
Geo is not the same Geo this year
Myles can't stay on the floor for 40% of his games
Paul has multiple injuries and has not been a threat to score
Caleb has an awful shooting %

But more importantly, our defense is no longer elite. We have up more offensive boards than we had total rebounds last night but our D and energy level has been trending this way for a while.


Whoever is in control of that switch, I hope they flip it back on by Thursday

Yes the reality is it’s clear who on this board has no perception of reality outside the big ten. I guarantee you the OP has watched under 3 full games start to finish of any other conference matchup. This Rutgers team, yes THIS ONE, today, if the season started again tomorrow, would go at least 16-4 in the ACC, 15-5 in the Big 12, 18-2 in the Big East (if only playing Creighton once), etc. we’re 11-11 in the Big Ten the toughest conference, tied for 6th. Get some perspective

Amazingly short memories on some RU fans. We are just a few years away from being not a bad team, but an absolute laughing stock. The name Rutgers was athletically a joke. Ok, we are not an elite team. But this is a good solid team in the BIG. And it belongs in the league and in the tournament. Stop bitching about it and enjoy it. No one wins every game. And we are not winning the national championship. But we may just get a win, maybe two, in the tourney.

So the glass is half empty? Are people kidding me? I was in college in 1991 when we were good enough to be in the top 64. 1991! This is the best team in 30 years. Period.

On Jan 2 we were ranked #14 with recent wins against Maryland, Illinois & Purdue.. The Ohio State loss stung but understandable because Myles fouled out due to getting every ticky-tack call and losing JY to a really scary fall. That day we had a 2 point loss to Iowa after going 4 for 12 at the line.

We were on par with those teams. Some would have put us 2nd or 3rd among them at that time. Expectations all around were high. Commentators thought our biggest weakness was at the FT line.

From that point forward those other teams progressed and we didn't. They were our benchmark. Now our norm is the rest of the league not named Michigan. If the benchmark is the past 30 years, OK. But if the benchmark is this year, this team underachieved.

Still root for them. But it took a while to temper expectations. Hey, before tip-off last night I thought we had a shot.

@fluoxetine you are one of my favorite and most reasonable posters. Thank you for hopefully explaining what I previously tried 10x to do. And appreciate your sentiment about this thread, as I know everyone wants to celebrate our first Selection Sunday in 30 years, as do I, but most posters seem to think that the team from December is just magically going to show up once the tournament begins and outside of RHJ looking unstoppable driving to the hoop, I don't see any other signs to indicate that will happen

Illinois was 2020...I am taking about 2021...this team changed with that Ohio State loss, has been a shell of itself since then, and got its wins this year against the bottom half of the league
