Barry Bonds retired with 762 career home runs when he overtook Henry Aaron's 755. Aaron nearly returned the favor earlier a month ago when MLB decided to honor stats from the Negro Leagues. Aaron played three months in 1952 for the Indianapolis Clowns of the Negro Leagues before being offered contracts by the Milwaukee Braves and New York Giants.
But he only accumulated 5 home runs making his final total 760.
Aaron, by the way, didn't like the nickname "Hammerin Hank" or even Hank. He preferred Henry. And he was ready to sign with the Giants but the Braves' $250 offer was $50 more than the Giants. Otherwise, the Giants would have sported an outfield in the 1950s and 1960s of WIllie Mays and Hank Aaron.
