Really wish the game was happening. Aiken is the Aiken I have watched for the last 3 years tonight. They just had their best half of the season. It isn't happening this season and I am hoping that pride on either side doesn't negate it in the future. A rivalry is a rivalry and it is a legitimate rivalry.

I'll piggy back to throw out an idea I had recently.

We should have an annual 4 team NJ classic. RU, SHU, Princeton, and whoever, say Monmouth.

Round robin, award only given if a team wins all 3.

Seton Hall has some good players. They just need to get more consistent as a team. And they likely will as the season progresses.

Mamu is an elite college player, as is RHJ.

I was wrong about SHU early on, they played really bad IMO, but they look like a completely different team the last few weeks.

Lots of scoring options and Aiken is just getting into his groove at PG.

I would put RU a -4 favorite over SHU right now on a neutral court, with RHJ back.

I’ll pin this completely on shoe. Instead of looking for best long term interests of annual game, they decided to be selfish and worry about losing the gate—during the pandemic. Somehow Xavier-Cincy played, and UK-Ville played last weekend. I’m with Pike on this.

the Big East isn’t very good. Just watch the caliber of play and strength of teams. Shoe is playing better but don’t discount the teams they are playing.

It's honestly a bigger loss to SHU that we are not playing. If RU wins, it won't really help us too much in the rankings/SOS. On the other hand, from a SHU perspective, if they win, it would help a lot (especially since they are likely on the bubble) but if they lose, it would not hurt them much.

shu is softer this year then they were last year. The Big East plays a finess-perimeter style in general. The more physical style played in the Big10 is, in general, not a good matchup for most of the BE, and it is certainly not a good matchup for shu VS RU.

At 7-4 given the schedule Hall has played is probably a game below where they should be.

Loss by 1 @ Louisville

Crushed Iona by 22

Lost at Rhode Island by 13

Lost to Oregon on neutral floor by 13

Won at Penn State in OT by 6

Crushed Wagner by 33 at home

Won at home over St John's by 9

Won at Marquette by 7

Lost at home to Providence by 3 (bad no call on a clear travel by Providence player led to a 3 pointer with game tied).

Won at home over Georgetown by 11

Won at Xavier by 17 last night.

Winning at Marquette and Xavier are their 2 best wins...outside of beating Creighton or Nova, if they played RU, RU would potentially be their best win, at least as valuable as Nova or Creighton.

RU on the other hand, clearly has a tougher schedule and doesn't need the game in terms of strength of schedule or credibility for this season. And SHU probably could use the game for their resume, but if it means they'd have to come to the RAC next year, they've ultimately punted on that option by playing at the Rock this season.

I don’t understand your logic. SHU has the third biggest Team in the nation. It’s front court is big and deep with Mamu, Obiago, Samuels, Rhoden, Jackson, Cale and Molson. RU has better guards but not a better front court.

SHU does have a big front court but they don't impose it on other teams. That comes into play as why they have lost some games this year.

Sorry batty, it’s actually pretty easy to understand. Did you watch last years game? Those same big men were soft against our intensity, it has nothing to do with size or ability, it is about toughness. You watch BE games and there is more finesse (which has its place), and less banging. The games are even called differently.

That was certainly true in the beginning of the year but Obiago (7'2") and Samuel (6'10") are finally coming into their own recently. They are a good complement to Mamu.

The SHU "sympathizers" come out of the wood work. Funny if you ever prance over to their board you see what little respect they give to this current RU team so why go out of your way to respect them here by starting a post about how "wonderful" they are --- I smell SHu infiltrators.

Is Seton Hall absolutely, 100% NOT going to happen this season? I assume we aren't going to be able to slot it in anywhere (also appears there's not a heck of alot of willingness on their side to do so)

Seton Hall is a very good program. Willard will probably have them in their 6th straight NCAA (I count last year). It is not easy to lose a player like Myles Powell and still put an NCAA caliber team on the floor the next year. That is a sign of a good program. Having both RU and SHU good is great for basketball in NJ. It can benefit both programs.

I do believe RU is better this year and was better last year. We won’t get to prove it in the court this year, but in my opinion Seton Hall is a good team, and more impressively a good program

I think SHU is really improving each game. It's hard to say who is the better team this year.

Perhaps we will face off in the NCAA Eastern Regional?

As a member of the Big Ten we play more than our share of top teams. No need for Seton Hall to be on the schedule.

Samuel prefers the perimeter though.

What happened to the Frosh center that never made it to campus?

That would fitting RU playing Seton Hall in the Eastern Regionals at MSG, and no fans could attend

Would be even better for NJ hoops if NJ Tech became really competitive too, though they'll unfortunately remain at a comparative disadvantage to Shoe based on their respective conference affiliations. I'd rather the Highlanders emerge, being the only other public D1 program in the state, while RU beats them and the Pirates on the reg.

SHU had a chance to play us this year but they pulled the plug over no fans at the game. Kentucky-Louisville was the same thing but they played anyway last week at Louisville. Our schedule after only 4 games in the BIG is already rated tougher than Seton Halls. After playing 20 games in the BIG it will be so much tougher than SHU's schedule. They need to play us more more now than we need to play them. If the contract says our game is at RU next year that is what it should be. SHU pulled the plug this year, it is all on them. I agree with Coach Pikiell. They had their chance to play us and they pulled out.

Scangg, I have heard plenty of other people refer to Purdue as a private school. Some mistake Clemson and Auburn for private schools as well. I suppose I could check the dates to see who was founded first, but all three states have “State” universities—South Carolina State, Alabama State, and Indiana State.

I was listening to Pirate Radio pregame last night and think they said SHU was outrebounded in most (all?) of their games, although last night they owned the glass. That was surprising. I just looked and they are #204 in all Division I schools in rebound margin. Clearly they rebound less than their size indicates they should.

Re: which team is better this year... one of the programs is ranked 14 in the AP poll, while the other received zero votes this week. It is clear who the voters feel is better.

Proud, yes, Syracuse is a private college. I have been told by more than one person, that the school was in such bad financial shape in the 60s that the state of New York was looking into purchasing it and turning it into a public college.

If Rutgers plays Seton Hall, let Herb Pope flip the ball in the opening tip to show there is no bad blood between the teams.

If RU faces SHU in the tourney it would be in the 4-13 game maybe. And that would be good for 4-seed RU, as SHU is almost guaranteed to bow out of the tourney in the first round, as is tradition every year for the Pirates
