If Harper is an ankle , rest is key . If he’s not close to 100 percent , take the loss vs Iowa and move on .

Agree here. We play Iowa again at their place. If our guys are banged up theres no reason to push it this time around; I'd rather roll into Iowa City with a fully loaded team ready to go than risk a longer term injury in this home game...

Tough game with or without them. Probably asking way too much of the rest of the team to somehow be able to compensate for both being out. This is not Purdue and that was tough enough!
Get them ready for the rest of the way.

Iowa board pointed out that they are winless on the road and have not shot well on the road so far this season. Would be nice to have Harper as a go for this one. It would also put us in a nice spot for the B1G championship with a win over Illinois already

Post trap on Garza and if Fredrick/Bohannon/Wieskamp are hitting their 3's, tip your cap and move on. However, if they're not shooting the lights out from the perimeter, we've got a fighting chance. Iowa zone defense is soft and if we can score in the 80s (i.e. the Purdue game), this will come down to the wire. With a game down to the wire and home cooking, Rutgers can definitely win a close one even without Harper.

We win regardless. Iowa is soft as they come and will crumble under our physical play

There's a lot of gamesmanship with Pike when he speaks on player updates. In general, any coach is going to keep the other coach guessing to put doubt in the minds of the opposing team.
I agree, but it’s not gamesmanship that Cliff hasn’t practiced.
RHJ is a different story, hopefully he can play...as noted he doesn’t need to practice, if he feels good on game day shoot around he plays

Isn't Iowa averaging over 94 points per game over its first 10 games ?
We might need our top scorer for that one...if he can go.

yes, I would hope there is no iron clad rule that you have had to practice the day before, when it comes to Harper

The difference is in Iowa Garza and the gang are allowed to play defense with bats and axe handles if they like. If they get a few calls against, Franny pisses his pants with anger, gets a T and the refs back down.

Do we need everyone healthy for the game at the RAC where we might get the fairest shake against a very good, very physical team or do we need them fully healthy for a game that unless we play perfectly we have little chance of winning because Iowa is assured literally every break in their house?

I don't know the answer. I'm asking.

100% agree. From a fan perspective, we all want to see him play, injured or not. From a coach perspective, and knowing how a recently sprained ankle is more prone to reinjury, I don't play Harper unless it was a very minor sprain and he's 100%. We have a tough schedule coming up and is better to have Harper fully healed up for the remaining games than risk losing him for more of the season by playing him too soon.

I don’t like this take the loss nonsense.
It's not a given that we lose without Harper. But if he comes back too soon and get hurt worse and misses a bunch of games, we could wind up with more losses overall.

If I'm the coach, I this is an easy decision; Harper doesn't play until he's 100% on that ankle.

I'd have Harper wearing out the BAPS board, which I'm sure Geo has been wearing out too.

I am sure Geo, Jacob, and the rest are not assuming this will be a loss if Ron is unable to play. Next man up. Loser mentality to assume we cannot win without him, even if it is obvious we are better with him. If we are taking the L, just play only walk-ons. Why would we risk Myles or Geo or anyone else getting hurt, right?

I think people were overstating the situation if RH can't play. We can definitely win without him. Is just harder is all.

Regardless, if Harper's ankle is less than 100%, I'd sit him. Reinjury to the same ankle is often worse than the initial injury. And playing with less than 100% confidence on an ankle can lead to other injuries caused by players unconsciously compensating for a weak ankle. At this point in the season, it's just not worth the risk.

No argument from me that Ron should not risk a long-term injury for a January 2nd game. Oddly, even against Iowa and their high-powered offense, I don’t hate our chances if he can't go.

I think you are 100% on target. I listened to his news conference and he said nothing. In fact, his comment about Jacob didn't confirm he would play, only that he was tough.

Agreed. Iowa is a really good team, so with or without Harper, we need to have a really good game to beat them. But we're a good team too. So if they have an off game, it'll be hard for them to beat us.

I think the biggest risk in this game is if MJ gets into early foul trouble. Second biggest risk is if Young's back acts up. Those two are critical to our success in this game no matter who else plays.

I'd add that if I were Pike, I'd try to get Garza in foul trouble early on. Which I'm guessing they'll try with MJ.

Beyond the skills they bring, w Ron out we are again thin, w Cliff out we’re vulnerable to fouls at the five.

In fact, we are better off without Harper. It puts too much pressure on Iowa and no pressure on Rutgers.
I am ok either way.

I disagree that Rutgers is better off without Harper who clearly is one of the best players in the B1G.

We should do what OSU did to us and take it straight at Garza. Have Myles go at him early. Though I wouldn't be surprised if he just gets called on offensive fouls.
