I know RU beat Indiana State on March 14, 1978 in the NIt. Is there any footage from the game? My father is big Larry Bird fan and i wanted to acquire some of the film. I can’t seem to locate anything online. Does any footage actually exist? Thanks!
What a great game that was! In addition to the game, you had the bird fan direct from Indiana dressed in a long cape with full "Bird Man" garb on. Then after the win we all got to watch Larry Bird knocking out an RU fan at mid court. It was a one non-stop crazy night.I know RU beat Indiana State on March 14, 1978 in the NIt. Pretty sure it was Kelvin Troy on him and I was at the game.Abdel Anderson did a hell of job making Larry bird work that night...JB hit the game winner with about 15 second to go
who did RU beat to get to Indiana state ? Army and coach K....
The RAC was standing room only. Bailey scored the last seven points for RU. Everyone held their breath when Bird launched the desperation shot. I was hosting Knightline that night and sprinted to my car as soon as the shot rimmed out so I missed Bird‘s altercation. One of my top 5 games at the RAC.

Even more interesting is the fact that we were the last team to beat ISU until they lost in the final the following year
Troy was excellent but how many people remember what happened with him in 1981 when Coach K made his only visit to the RAC with his new Duke team?Kelvin Troy was a beast
I was at the game, and I seem to recall Bird taking a swing at a fan as he was running off the court.Bailey hit a baseline jumper to give RU the lead with a second or two left
Bird got the ball a little over half court and launched a shot that hit the rim and was a bit scary, looked like it might go in
It was reported that Bird had an altercation
With a fan or two just after the game ended
It was a great game and Bird and Bailey played well
I heard there was something going onI was at the game, and I seem to recall Bird taking a swing at a fan as he was running off the court.
Say what?Worked the game - witnessed the Bird altercation.
He smashed a heckler with a haymaker busting eyeglasses - blood and glass on the floor.

That game was the only time I started toward the exit, thinking we had no chance to pull the game out.You just made me cry

That was me. I remember saying “Your mouth to God’s ears”. He obviously listened! Were you the former host who was my adversary at a deposition, where I predicted each league game in RU’s improbable run to a home tournament final and win against Penn State in Wenzel’s first year?
Troy was a very talented player. On both ends.
No, it was absolutely Anderson for more than half of the game. And Abdel would not be happy to hear that you did not notice.

Was there too.I was there. Great game. Bird was a maniac but Bailey was better that night.
Awesome game. Crowd in RAC was insane Bailey was a force at the end. My last year of medical school at Rutgers. I was there with a surgeon who did work with Rutgers athletics and we went to take a look at student Bird clobbered. Messy.Apparently Bird was a legendary brawler in bars.
