In Ash's last two years, I would usually DVR the games and then do things with the family with full intention of watching the games when I got home...That was bad enough in itself...But then, in at least 10 games each year, I would never even get through the first quarter if I even watched at all and just deleted the recordings.
This year- I still recorded the games while watching on Sling - just so I could pause at times and then catch up...But did not miss a single second of any game this year.
The best part about it- in most games- you had to watch each game right until the end.

The only part of Greg's game I give him less than an A is the in game and halftime adjustments. He had a couple of games that he mastered it and outcoached the other guy- including OSU, but others, he was taken to the woodshed with in game adjustments. But, there is a part of me that realizes that with limited practices before the season and the serious lack of depth on the team- we were very limited in what we could adjust.

Next year will take Greg's best performance yet. If he had a horrible year and was blown out in games, he would have gotten a pass this year and hope in year 2 he could have done what he did this year. But, with his and the team performance THIS year, he jumped a year. I don't know if it will amount to a bowl or a ton of wins but if we witness a let down next year- it would be unacceptable.
[/QUOTE} It would not only be unacceptable but also, with the BLESSINGS, UNLIKELY.

Did you come to this decision before hearing guys like O3, Melton, and others decided to return? If Rutgers gets an upgrade at QB through the portal, how does that impact your views? Remember, Rutgers will have spring ball and a full summer camp too.
No. Outside of 03 there haven’t been any surprises. My views are the same, next year COULD be down compared to this year

I could see us at 5-5 going into the last two games against MSU and PSU...A lot is still going to depend on the QB situation. The great unknown.

Based on year one I would give Greg a solid B. The on the field performance was vastly improved, I am concerned though with recruiting as most coaches in their first year get more Blue chips. We relied a lot on upper classman transfers this year which we definitely needed but are only available a year or two.... time will tell on Greg. Of course though it's almost impossible to not look like a savior considering the two dumpster fires he followed

Only 2011- 32 and 2012 - 24 have been better classes in our history

Greg pretty much did exactly what you were expecting. Somehow- you though this class with no OV's and very little contact in one of the craziest situations in world history was going to be better than this? After the mess we have been for years. I would say if COVID didn't happen, GS and staff were allowed much more contact, home visits and OV's- he would have most likely flipped a couple of kids. This class has been mostly set since before the season. To get it to be a number 34 class- is an A easy...To expect more is unrealistic and just a setup for failure. It would be no different to say you were disappointed in this year because you expected a bowl game.

This has been a crazy season set in a crazier world. No way you can evaluate Coach Greg off a year like this. You gotta bring him back next year. Not even a debate!

Go Knights!

At which positions are you saying we'll be weaker than this year's players ?

It’s not just about us and I’m not saying we will be weaker. I’m simply saying next year could look worse on paper. MSU will be better, Maryland’s starting QB won’t have COVID. We play Northwestern and Nebraska as crossovers.

Again, it's impossible to be objective on this board and hold Greg Accountable because the old heads are soo bought in. Our recruiting Ranking is Below 40 according to ESPN and 247 and on every site you will see that the biggest reason we were as high as we were was the number of recruits we have. Our average rated recruit is barely in the top 50... Do I think that's an absolute A+ amazing job? No I don't, thus why I gave him a solid B

From time before time began lol Rivals has always counted ONLY your top 20 recruits...We just had the early signing day- this isn't like a ranking put out in June. But again- the ranking is of your top 20 and this goes for all universities

take one look at the 247 Composite which I believe is the fairest since it equates an average of all the major recruiting services and Rutgers average rated recruit is the lowest in the conferance... Is that to be expected? Of course! Does it also not warrant Greg getting an A from me? Yup it sure does

Ok- so...even though we are on rivals, let’s talk 24/7...
They have us at 41 National and 10 conf..,you expect better because all new coaches improve the ranking first year.
The previous year- we were 61 National and 13 conf...
Those are both huge jumps up...and this was a year that Greg had zero chance to improve it after the season started.
If you though Greg was going to magically improve more than 20 and 3 spots in his first year with no proof that the team was going to be any better than the worst P5 team again, well, I got nothing for you...if he gets to 25 National and 7 conf next year, will that be another disappointment?

I'm with you. I think it's awfully harsh to judge a coach's recruiting on a single year. Give him at least 2--3.

B+.

I won't go A, or A+, because there were a couple games, most notably Illinois that we could have won.

But I thought he did a great job, so maybe I'm a tough grader here, just thinking that if you give him an A+that means he couldn't have done any better, which I won't say was the case.

you are not looking at it objectively, you are not accounting the number of recruits compared to average recruit ranking. The average level of ranking for our recruits is the lowest in the conferance, and yes traditionally at EVERY school there is a recruiting surge with a new coach, it happens at EVERY SCHOOL. With as much pomp and circumstance as the old heads have on this board for the lord and savior Greg, you would think recruits would be flocking to him right? Or at least more that 2 of the top 10 IN STATE prospects... Greg did a fine job his first year, you are here arguing like an obsessed ex girlfriend bc I gave him a B instead of an A bc of recruiting. I never said Greg was doing a bad job or I wasn't happy with the results, but I definitely see room for improvement which unless you are Nick Saban can be said for just about anyone. Get over yourself man, I get it, you love Greg the way Dan Orvlosky loves Carson Wentz, the guy can do no wrong and how dare anyone ever say he could be better!

Cripes- you move goal post, I kick it through the middle of your posts, move them again and through the middle again. You trying to move them again???
BTW- I was originally big time against Greg coming back...
But this discussion with you is done now. I already wasted too much of my time each time to keep moving those damn posts.

I think that is fair- he did get out coached a couple of games...
