We’ve had a few very good big men, and a few very good guards . No top talent small forwards jump out at me except Clarence Tillman is similar, who I mentioned previously. He was a McDonalds AA who transferred from Kentucky after 1 year. But Not a great career here due to lack of overall team talent.
Sellers wasn’t an outside shooter

agreed with Degaz, his ability to put up these numbers in the flow of the game is incredible. He rarely forces it and is always in the right spot when off the ball. Also can board with the best of them due to being build like a truck.

Lets not forget Keith Hughes (syracuse transfer). Last time they
made the tournament he was THE MAN.

Please stay uno mas

I can't see him staying as much as I would enjoy that.

The draft after this one could be really stacked if they allow high school seniors to go straight to the NBA as expected.

Ron Harper and Phil Sellers are the two best players in Rutgers Basketball history. Sellers was just as complete a player as Harper. What hurt Sellers was that he was only 6-4" ....

Let Ron play some more games . Do think he could be top 10 when he is done.

Fair point , Colonel. Don't remember him being much of an outside shooter though. Tillman is the only SF I recall who could had range like Harper.

The three point line and skews stats (and shot selection) comparisons in more recent times. And the shot clock too.

Teams took much fewer shots, and fewer outside shots back then.

Tillman is definitely not a match for Harper. Not even close. He had a good shot but was slow and never posted stats remotely close to Ron’s. Riggins is an interesting comparison and Keith Hughes was the total package. Not sure why he didn’t play in the NBA. Copeland could sky and play tremendous D but doesn’t match Ron’s O game. Kelvin Troy also a great defender but not the offensive player Ron is. Sellers remains the best, just a bad NBA fit. Bailey the second best.

Union...if no 3 pt shot and no shot clock, Harper’s numbers would be a lot closer to Tillman’s. Again, he was a McDonald’s AA. Not the quickest, but neither is Harper. Similar build and athleticism. Best ability of each is the outside jumper.

Can‘t agree at all - although I should check Tillman’s numbers first. I remember being very excited when he transferred in but was immediately shocked that he just wasn’t that good. Very slow. Not anywhere near as athletic as Ron. It‘s obvious why he left KY - he wasn’t good enough to play there. Harper is much quicker, a better defender, better inside scorer, better ball handler, much better player.

Phil Sellers was a first team AA small forward for the 1976 undefeated team. Baily and Jorden from that team became AAs before they were done too.

There's even more context. Jr. year he tied for leading team scoring avg with Hinson, and Sr. year he was below Hinson and Kevin Black. And well ahead of John Battle both years, who I am sure you know that along with Hinson were NBA guys. I don't think comparing stats tells the story. They are very similar players. You are selling him short by comparing to the game 40 years later.

What I was clearly wrong about was the talent around him. I didn't remember he played with Hinson and Battle

Battle didn’t do anything his first two years while Tillman was there. Battle had a huge jump to his junior year. Those Hinson teams were quite good, NCAA last win was ‘83 with that team, I think.
I checked the stats and Tillman was an excellent foul shooter but otherwise no match for this year’s Ron. Half Ron’s point production in fact and I would argue not as good as Ron in any other facet of the game.
