Is Evan Simon the QB next year?

Improvement yes. However the bar is incredibly low. Vedral has Passing yards per game that ranks #63 out of all FBS QBs. More importantly Vedral QB rating ranks at #91 out of 113 QBs.
We need a better QB to improve RU in the future.

If Art did that last season 80% of the board would have wet their pants and said we have our QB...lol.

Simon has a good arm and good speed (not elite for either), but we've seen plenty of guys with that combo who have become very good QBs, if they read defenses well and make good decisions and that's very hard to judge by highlight tapes. Vedral will be hard to beat out next year, but if we can find a stud transfer, we take him.

Extremely Low expectations I guess.
A starting QB with a Rating that ranks #91 in all FBS should be considered g-d awful by any fan.

Yes and no. The current scholarship limit is 85. We have a full class coming in. But as far as I know, the scholarship limit is not being increased. So, something's gotta give.
They’ve said the extra scholarships won’t count against the 85. It’s more how many the school is willing to give out since it’s more lost revenue (don’t tell the teaching staff🙄).

No one said throw a parade for the guy. Just appreciate where we’ve been and how that small an improvement has made a large impact on our scoring per game.

Vedral has his flaws no doubt but he is the most complete QB in that room right now until maybe Simon is ready or they bring someone else in.

I don't completely agree with you but I can say that he is the most complete QB for Gleeson's system. There are times when he just doesn't have it and I feel that Schiano and Gleeson should not be afraid to pull him when this occurs. Vedral, Sit and Langan each have different skillsets and there are game situations where using one would be better than the other. This is the biggest reason why the team won their game against Purdue and they also would have won beaten Illinois if this was done. Going forward, I really hope the coaches would not be afraid to pull Vedral if he plays poorly. (He should still be the starter for the Terp game.)

Wonder how Laviano or Tom Flacco would have done under Gleeson. Just a random thought.

My opinion on the QB situation:

The most ( supposedly) talented QB (Sit) on roster might not be fully ready for prime-time and even though show flashes that make him seem ready at times, the staff feels he has to improve more to earn starting position
The transfer from BC (Johnny L) is the new Jabu package and not a full game solution.
Simon might need more seasoning before can be trusted to run the O and Snyder seems to be out of the running for now.
Leaving Noah V as the best option to lead the RU O and keep mistakes down , knowing the talent on this current squad would have a hard time overcoming mistakes and the D doesn't have enough depth to constantly stop the opponant all of the game.

Flacco would be interesting . 60 % Comp Rate. 22 TDS and 6 INTs last year.
To this day in 2016, that sequence with Laviano and Oden against Iowa sticks in my mind as one of the most boneheaded sequences of playcalling in RU history.

  • 2nd & 10 at RUTG 21

(5:53 - 2nd) Chris Laviano pass complete to Janarion Grant for 76 yds to the Iowa 3 for a 1ST down
    play
  • 1st & Goal at IOWA 3

(5:53 - 2nd) Tylin Oden run for 1 yd to the Iowa 2
  • 2nd & Goal at IOWA 2

(5:53 - 2nd) Tylin Oden run for no gain to the Iowa 2
  • 3rd & Goal at IOWA 2

(5:53 - 2nd) Chris Laviano run for a loss of 1 yard to the Iowa 3
  • (2:10 - 2nd) Timeout RUTGERS, clock 02:10
  • 4th & Goal at IOWA 3

(2:10 - 2nd) Chris Laviano run for 2 yds to the Iowa 1

In 2020 it would be Langdon over any of the QBs Flood/Ash eras.

And what do most of our fine fans think of and remember Laviano for? A couple of negative incidents, one after hearing boos when he was inserted back in the game after getting his bell rung. Maybe the fans got what they deserved with that- karma baby.
Out fans trash ALL of our QB’s. Even when we win they trash our QB’s. I call them QBtards.

Laviano was pretty good for us with Carroo and Grant in 2015. In 2016 Grant went down vs Iowa and we changed offenses which negated the abilities of Patton and Adugosi. He did kind of sort of okay that year but if we stayed in the Flood offense He would have done better.

You are going to deny that 187/307 (61%), 2287 yards, and 16 TDs and 12 INTs is not "pretty good." C'mon man.
He had some great games - Maryland and Indiana, but a lot of bad ones.. He didn’t throw a touchdown pass for 5 straight games..

let’s also remember that 3 of those touchdowns were against Norfolk State, so it’s 13/12 against D1 FBS competition...

Like someone said, he was the last QB to have a decent or "pretty good" season here, yet some of our fans (not necessarily you) will find ways to put him down, most because of two incidents. It has been a long cold winter at QB since 2015. Oddly, we have a now have a QB in Vedral who has also been decent, but a cadre of fans lob hate at him.

Good analysis...

Johnny can throw the ball a little better than Jabu, but I know what you mean.

I also would like to add that Noah V is the new Laviano. They both have running ability and are better at reading defenses which is what made them starters for their teams. However, they are both being criticized on this board because their arm strengths are below average for a starting power 5 QB.

I guess the concern of only a 4 win season in 2015 is influencing my comments.
With RBs like Martin, Hicks, Paul James we had many weapons to keep Defenses honest.
I will say Laviano had a QB Rating that ranked #67 among FBS programs. Horrible not. Pretty good not really IMO.

Guess that depends on a definition of pretty good.

Vedral is the 1st QB to pass for over 1,200 yds since 2015 when Laviano went for 2,200 yds. And that's in 6 games with at least two more to play.

Yeah, Vedral is really very good. I can't believe that you guys think that QB is anything but solid. Vedral is clutch.
