I agree with the nuclear family part / supportive family . That won’t change no matter who is in charge but she displays no leadership whatsoever regardless of her background . She has been silent since March , offering no guidance , encouragement or plan throughout the whole pandemic . It’s been like this much of her tenure and I highly doubt she’s even stepped foot in many public schools
oh come on.. no matter what she says you guys will rip it to pieces. You want MONEY to go to support liberal states budgets and the public education system that is programming students to be anti-American.

If Trump/DeVoss AGREES with the plan to not have children return to school.. then it is now ON HIM.. his problem.. as is paying for it. If he disagrees and wants all the kids back in school.. then every illness and death, god forbid, is on him.

What if the feds decided that public education is a federal responsibility and school taxes across the nation went to them.. and they sold off the public schools to charter school companies and issued vouchers. You seem to want federal control of the schools.. is that really what you want?

Starting to sound like many teachers don’t want to go back into the classroom this Fall, yet have no science to support their position.

What position does the NJ teachers union take on returning to the classroom?
NJEA supports kids back in school in some form in the fall. They are pretty much calling the shots that Murphy has put out.

How about if all the R states that suck up the federal budget just let us keep our own money and we call it even?

Edit: I also always get a chuckle out of the idea that about 1/2 of the country (probably more) is anti-American because they don't agree with a certain vision of America. Who really hates America if you're the one who seems to simple loath a majority of it's citizens?

I don’t want federal control of the schools and I don’t expect them to be in our day to day business but how about a little leadership in times of crisis . Don’t make a statement just when it’s convenient politically for you . Again , I think we should be going back to school in some capacity but making broad political statements with nothing behind it does nothing but divide us even more. At least Pence went into detail and seemed to support how difficult it is and gave some substance .

Regarding programming students to be anti American , that is just an asinine ignorant statement . Somewhere along the line some taking head said this and people picked this up and use this as a talking point . It’s baseless and has no merit

So I'm in Florida and hearing kids could be required to wear masks upon return. Also hearing the same thing in NJ; however, half days for the kids and then teachers teach online for the second half of the day. Heard in PA that kids are to distance 3ft apart, teachers only wear masks, but kids wear masks in halls and buses.

I have an issue with sending my 3-year old and and 7-year old to school, half or full day with masks. If this is the case, we'll continue with online education if available.

Who makes these random arbitrary rules, 3ft vs. 6ft, masks no masks? And on what grounds do they stand and differ from school district and from state to state. Mind-blown at the lack of consistency in health practices. It feels like the wrong people are making these rules up on the fly.

Read the re-opening of schools in 22-European countries has not led to any increase in COVID. Also read 67,000 pediatricians are all for sending kids back to school. Am I off-base, losing my mind?
They are not arbitrary rules. They are based on observable fact, and are evolving as we learn more. Social distancing and wearing masks need to be embraced and not fought. Look at the rapidly declining active cases in NJ and compare them to the skyrocketing active cases in Florida, Texas and Arizona. Arbitrary rules - it doesn't take a genius to figure this one out, and that is precisely why we have 1/3 of the world's cases - because of our "genius of a leader" who is just incredibly stupid.

Adopting and teaching the 1619 project BS.. that's not a talking point. Radicalizing students until they go around pulling down statues and such.. that is not a talking point. Telling students to get in their parent's faces.. to hate their "white privilege".. that is not a talking point. I am a little shocked that you all don't want your programming to continue as normal. But I suppose the election is more important.

My D is a teacher and I have not heard any of that taught. My niece teaches in a different district and it is not taught there either.

History education has always had biased leanings. If you ask true historians what is taught at the elementary and secondary level as history has always been sugar coated

None of that is taught in a schools and if you believe that then you are just as bad as all of the q people and pizzgate lunatics . Do they teach white nationalism in school in school and how to be a terrorist too ? I mean come on . Kids are a product of their surrounding culture and upbringing for the most part . Also these days a lot is learned and followed on social media . To think these things are being taught and promoted in classrooms is Ridiculous

1619 Project being taught in schools...

Teacher arrested vandalizing statue..

Most ‘Educational’ Institutions Indoctrinate (you can start reading where it says that to stay on topic).

The NEA is teaching teachers how to teach about "white privilege"

Soo.. "none of that is taught in schools", eh?

Based on math scores maybe the three Rs are now Reading, Writing and Radicalsim.

Quick search on how to confront parents about racism shows lots of help for the young radicals there from liberal media sources.. and China's TikTok has a lot of examples as well.. I'm sure teachers teaching about racism and white privilege never mention the subject at all...

Thank you for a teachers opinion but I disagree with your post. Our educators often guide and sometimes drive the political opinions of our young people. It’s not written in the curriculum guide but it is the practice in my experience. When my son was in hs he brought world political opinions to the dinner table that we’re leftist and they didn’t come from his peers.

He was saying that teachers are teaching students to pull down statues , radicalize them , and get in their parents faces . Obviously a teacher can put their own spin on anything especially in history and politics , but that can work both ways . Students can also now take to social media and the internet and learn extremist things way more than any teacher would teach them in the classroom .

Have you stepped foot in a school anytime in the past 50 years?

What exactly qualifies you to tell an actual teacher what it's like in schools these days?

Lets discuss that. If that is true.. why are we to agree on the 1619's Projects lies now? Why should that be taught to children rather than a pro-American history that might instill in them a love of country rather than a hate of country? What would have happened in WWII had Americans been taught to hate their government and their history?

deflection.. change the subject.. not gonna work.. the information is there.. you want to tell the reporters on those stories they got it wrong?

once again you resort to avoiding the subject by claiming you know best.. how dare anyone question that.

what is it, that you teach? For example.. might be hard to work in white privilege into a math problem.. but probably not beyond imagination.

teaching our children to hate america

That story mentioned districts in a handful of cities, which you extrapolated into a rather broad, bold generalization, the trite "radicalizing our youth". An actual teacher or two told you flat out none of what you claim is being taught in their districts. So perhaps the issue isn't what you're making it based on news stories you found at the end of a Google search eight minutes ago?

Btw, why do you suggest reporters can't be questioned? Is that all reporters or only the ones that support your argument? Don't respond, we know the answer.

He’s generalizing to fit his narrative of course . I’ll tell you that none of teachers I know are going to put their job on the line to radicalize or push any anti American views on their students . All it takes is a few parents to complain and they complain about everything anyways .

Of course... don't respond.. you know the answer.

The evidence to the contrary is all around us in the action and voices of the youth you claim have not been radicalized to any degree.

How many teachers do you know who refused to teach the 1619 Project stuff? Since this stuff is all over our culture now.. and your students are exposed to it.. do you know any teachers who teach against it.. against tearing down statues.. using it as a teachable moment? Do they still have jobs?

Wait.. don't answer. We all know the answer.

If my criticism, and cited references, does not apply to you.. why take it like it does? Do you have no criticism of public schools? Everything going perfectly well there?

We're looking @ the following for a HS scenario -- still being discussed, of course.

Week 1:
Monday: Group A students in school/Group B students online
Half Days (30 minute classes)
Cleaning/Sterilization during remainder of day

Tuesday: Group B students in school/Group A students online
Wednesday: All virtual
Thursday: Group A
Friday: Group B

Week 2:
Monday: B school/A online
Tuesday: A school/B online
Wednesday: Virtual
Thursday: B school/A online
Friday: A school/B online

Virtual Days (Wednesdays) would allow for needed practice and improvement in using various virtual technologies, while also helping us prepare for potential full closing, if needed. Most in-school classes would max @ 12 students.

Hope this is figured out and announced soon so parents can plan, going to impact our work schedules, work from home, etc. Can be a major headache for many parents.

We are now seeing virtually everyone we come in "contact" with behind glass shields.
As a retired teacher, I cannot imagine how you deal with a class of up to 30 kids in a classroom now.
And...good luck getting kids to follow social distancing and mask wearing rules.

Split teachers at the lower grades will not work . I teach at a 4th and 5th grade school and each teacher teaches their class a few subjects and another teachers class a few subjects . If you have kids go half day each , you’d have half of one class come for the morning and the other the afternoon. The teacher would need to be there for both groups to teach all the kids . The only way you could do it is if al the kids in a given class come in on the same day and not on the other day .

at the secondary level it may work slightly better but there are way more kids than teachers and teachers teach multiple grade levels at least at high school so I doubt it would work

What I don't get is masks are required in certain outdoors areas...but optional for students in school? It's going to take alot of effort to have a structures plan to protect EVERYONE in the school

Yes, over the top. But at the same time, we do have a mod who posts in topics the owners of the board have said are out of bounds. And who, recently at least, has been deleting posts he doesn’t like.

Tattling ain’t cool, but neither is this other crap.
It's been obvious for awhile that a couple of mods should be replaced. Not going to name names, but they know who they are.

Are your grandkids and their parents still quarantined? No camps? No play dates? No work?
My daughter and wife both work in retail and wear masks/social distance as much as possible. Not sure if the grandchildren would be as careful. I also live in an area full of redneck conservatives who don't think wearing a mask is necessary. Classrooms and buses full of their kids would be a recipe for disaster.

Lmao. "How many teachers do you know who teach against tearing down statues?"

Is this guy serious?

No, I have no criticism of public schools at large. Well, they could have gotten their s together a little better than they did over two months this year, but I'll give them a pass.

I'm just getting started, tho. I'm sure I'll run into some actual real-life issues down the line. Not news stories that I blow out of proportion into something they're not based on no hands-on experience whatsoever.

So I'll ask a little more pointedly this time: What exactly is your connection to the schools - any schools - that gives you the motivation and expertise to lecture everyone else, including actual teachers, about problems you believe so prevalent in education?

You keep trying to turn this into me lecturing you and everyone else as if no one else in the world recognizes that students are becoming more and more hateful of America.

ANYONE should be able to list all the evidence of the increased radicalization and politicization of schoolkids. There is plenty of evidence of it. Yet you keep trying to turn this into a question about who I am. Why? Is it uncomfortable for you to talk about the evidence? Why won't you say what subject you teach? You're the one claiming some level of expertise on teachers and public schools.. lay it out for us. Let your resume do the talking for you and I'll let the evidence speak for me.

I am not teh one who politicized this thread. I said go back to normal, open the schools. Someone else blamed Betsy Devoss for some reason, apparently not realizing how her resume was similar to Obama's choice who promoted charter schools like she promoted religious schools. This is not a federal issue.. each state has the mandate to educate children.. the feds just play referee to make sure the states live up to that mandate.

My only point in talking about the cultural/political war being waged inside public schools is that if the Feds had more control at this time they wouldn't be teaching crap like the 1619 Project.

Uhhh..because you're the one saying it. As an OT tangent. And presenting rather flimsy evidence. To argue against actual teachers.

Yeah, it might be relevant having any actual experience deeper than googling articles.

I never said I was a teacher, and I never claimed expertise. I have stepped inside a school this year, tho, which seems to be very much more than you can say. Try it sometime or stop making fabricated generalizations.

you are doing it again.. you are insisting that only teachers can judge teaching and schools. you do this because teachers pushing the teachers' unions decisions and platforms and demands can then not ever be questioned. It is a joke. By your rules of argument, teachers can do anything they want (as long as their union will support them). And pumping out students supporting the liberal agenda helps them.

as for "fabricated generalizations".. that itself is a fabricated generalization.

No, Im saying they're better qualified than you. If I want to know what's actually happening on the ground somewhere, I trust the people with their feet there more than some guy who hasn't been in decades simply googling articles to support his tinfoil views.

You were right about one thing: fabricated generalization was not the best way to describe it. "False paranoid ********" would have been more accurate. Oh, and it's definitely a talking point ...a laughable one.

You were right about one thing: fabricated generalization was not the best way to describe it. "False paranoid ********" would have been more accurate. Oh, and it's definitely a talking point ...a laughable one.
But they say it does not happen but there are stories about it happening. Why would any school teach the 1619 Project? Is that a trend just beginning or does it show the politicization of history has already taken place and the 1619 Project is just a sign that it has already happened? Are all these young people going around tearing down statues another sign of the same thing? When asked about the identities of the people whose statues they are tearing down and they don't know they were abolitionists, for example, is that a sign that they are not being taught well in schools?

you are doing it again.. you are insisting that only teachers can judge teaching and schools. you do this because teachers pushing the teachers' unions decisions and platforms and demands can then not ever be questioned. It is a joke. By your rules of argument, teachers can do anything they want (as long as their union will support them). And pumping out students supporting the liberal agenda helps them.

as for "fabricated generalizations".. that itself is a fabricated generalization.

sounds like your butt hurt because they don't support your white rightwing agenda

The past 3m.5 years have gone well
The countries a dumpster fire and you take no responsibility for your agenda being the reason for it

Hope this is figured out and announced soon so parents can plan, going to impact our work schedules, work from home, etc. Can be a major headache for many parents.
Imagine if you are a teacher AND a parent, like my wife. You get the fun from both sides. She is really dreading how this split stuff will work out, but they are trying to get ready. On top of her regular teaching cert, special ed cert, and her Masters, she is working on Google certification this summer.

The school/college brainwashing debate in a nutshell:

Conservatives have decided that almost everyone who spends their time becoming highly educated gets brainwashed instead of entertaining the idea that people become more liberal with more education because that's where the facts lead.

The end result is the election of a career con man as a beacon of truth railing against made up facts by experts in almost every field.

They should set up their own colleges/schools learn how the world really works and revolutionize the world. Why this doesn't happen will remain a great mystery to them.

That all happened since Pelosi took over the House. Its all the Dems fault. Give Trump back the House and Senate and all will be well. Biden/Pelosi ain't the answer.

This is me . I’m a teacher , have one kid in preschool ( they have no plan communicated to us yet) and another in second grade ( no plan either yet). My wife has been wfh , but her company says now they have to come in full time starting August 3rd. We usually have a babysitter who comes and splits time with my mom to watch the kids. We have no idea what days or times they will be going yet and what my teaching schedule is yet . The other part is the babysitter or my mom being able to watch a 3 year old and try to set up and help virtual learning for a 7 year old while we are at work . What a nightmare
