If they win this one, their remaining schedule looks favorable to a top 30 (Q1) finish [4-2 at worst, maybe 5-1]. We could use that bump. No question we also are pulling for MD to beat NW and I think for Wisconsin to hold off Purdue.

That's not what the committee is charged with doing. We're ahead of OSU and Michigan in the standings but behind them in the NCAA pecking order. The committee is not concerned with where a team finished in its conferenceRutgers fans should want Illinois to lose to provide separation between the teams in their league won/loss records. With so few games remaining its important to stay in the top 7 B1G positions because nobody knows the number of NCAA selections for the B1G Conference.
I understand what you are saying but its still a hard sell to say the out of conference games should have more importance than league results. There is alot of conflicting data out there such as Penn State winning 7 straight league games and are now ranked in the top 10 nationally and at the top of the B1G.From my perspective the NCAA methodology is flawed. You're still failing to understand how what the committee is charged with doing. We're ahead of OSU and Michigan in the standings but behind them in the NCAA pecking order. The committeee is not concerned with where a team finished in its conference
two schools of thought here
a Penn State win makes our win vs them look even better
or a Illinois win makes our win vs them look better, especially should Illinois win enough to make it back to the top 30 where that win becomes Quad 1 again
I would rather keep teams behind us to stay that way....I can't see the NCAA denying us a bid if we finish 4th or 5th, for example, when every one and their brother expects the NCAA to take 8 to 11 teams.....
what, are they just going to invite everyone in the top 10 but us?

Are we fighting PSU for Albany though? If that's the case, I want the Ilini.
I'll take a Q1 road win over a PSU team that recently lost to Illinois but is still a top 15-ish team, if it means another Q1 win on the profile (and Ill's schedule sets up well for this by year end]. The lack of road wins is glaring, but a close second is limited Q1 wins [too many of our home wins are currently vs. teams just on the outside - in the 30s NET ... right now we are 2-6 in Quad 1 - that's a problem].
It starts getting tough to decide who to root for in some of these situations. When in doubt, root against ped state
But if we beat them again will they remain in the Top 15?It will be three wins over top 15s when we beat State Penn again.
This is why it's so tough now. Like many of you I hate to root for anything PSU. But if I had to root for one team tonight, it would be PSU for just the reason you stated.its tough either, Penn State could move into the top 15 from 17 which is a sub catagory that the team sheets have added...it would give RU 2 wins over top 15 schools..thats big.
This just win baby that will cure all ills!I'm rooting for one thing. A Rutgers victory over Michigan tomorrow night.

That is a good point but I look at Quad 1 and 2 together in our case and we are 7-7 . Quad 1 is 1-30 at home and Quad 2 is 31-75. Since Purdue(33), Wisconsin ( 31) and Illinois ( 38) are in the 30’s , very close to, lot closer to Quad 1 than Quad 2 outer reaches at 60-75, the committee if doing a proper analysis , will consider it almost another Quad 1win as they were all Quad 1 at 1 time. Whereas if we beat Memphis (60) , UConn (70) and Iowa State (74) , the resume would not be as good. Especially since all 3 of the latter are not likely tourney teams and all three of the former are tourney teams and likely between 7-10 seeds . Plus we have SFA another likely tourney team sitting at 85 in the Net today.it is but the committee also looks at tourney teams as well. The committee is aware a win over Wisconsin or Illinois at home is more valuable than a win over Uconn, Syracuse or Iowa State which are somehow Q1 wins on the road. The NET might have to look into tweaking something because we cannot have a situation where an awful 11-15 Iowa State is a Quad 1 win
What hurts the Big 10 is how atrocious Northwestern and Nebby are.
Didn't know that was a sub categoryits tough either, Penn State could move into the top 15 from 17 which is a sub catagory that the team sheets have added...it would give RU 2 wins over top 15 schools..thats big.
To that point, if PSU wins and moves up, do they then immediately move down if we beat them and not count as a top 15 win anyway in the end?But if we beat them again will they remain in the Top 15?

It seems like it's one of those situations where in hindsight you end up rooting for the wrong outcome
Let's just sweep PSU

If they win all their other games probably.
The quads are stupid.
