Love this team. Can we please stop giving away tickets for a third of the student section to high school football teams that are “too cool”to cheer and sit silently on their hands the entire game!!

This Rutgers basketball team deserves better. I don’t care what kind of good will Schiano is trying to build. (Btw, I love that Schiano is back too).

For today’s game, I think those were recruits from all over the state, not specific high schools.

It's part of learning about Rutgers, and also part of being in high school, where acting cool is a rite of passage. Once these players become more aware of Rutgers and the individual players on the team, they'll get on board. Ya gotta start somewhere, and getting these players to the game not only makes it possible that some of the recruits will play here, but in a bigger sense it paves the way for us having more loyal fans in the future.

If you want the football team to get recruits, giving them tickets is necessary to do.

The alternative is a half-empty student section while school is out.

Now that the team is good that’s simply not true. The student section was filled with cheering fans and no football recruits for the Indiana game.

They had former RU hoops alumni in 110, saw and chatted with Donnell Lumpkin among others....Fran Brown was very nice and took a minute to shake hands and introduce himself while being great with the parents and families of the recruits. He's truly a rock star and has that "it" factor.

Maybe this message should be directed to Schiano? Are you saying that Hobbs should over rule him on Football matters?

As good as the basketball team will ever be, football will always drive the bus. You do what you what you have to for football recruits

how about we just start by getting the huge gap behind the basket closed

Fans complaining about the best recruiting tool we've had in years..lol.

Let's put the recruits in the nosebleeds next time. What is the point of putting them next to the loudest section where all the students make an active effort to know their time.

Let's put them next to 316 or 315 instead where our fans are comatose and sit there like a family member just got killed. That'll excite them.

an entire third of a section is ridiculous. That is like 500 people.

Recruits are more on the shy side for these visits than the “too cool” side.

They are not even seniors in high school yet and they are sitting next to college kids who seem to know a lot more about what the hell is going on around them.

it was not at the expense of student tickets. They have “spill over” student tickets in the 300s and that wasn’t needed.

The student section also faced the recruits and chanted “come to Rutgers”. Which is exactly why they should be sitting where they were.

Schiano and the football team are living off the success of our basketball team. I sure hope they can improve to make our home football games a place where our basketball team can bring some good recruits to watch. Please no more blow out losses by our football team. Personally I think there were far too many recruits at yesterday's game. Almost one third of the student section was taken by them. We should be able to recognize which ones might seriously consider us.

So are you also in favor of only admitting people over 12? Why should we have these pre-teens and younger who have no interest in the game taking up space and
not contributing to the atmosphere in the RAC. How loud can they be? Do they even know why people are cheering? They mostly are sitting on the hands !! That is except the
babies that are sitting on their parents lap. Oh, Oh, lets not forget the fans for the opponent. We need to ban them also since they certainly won't stand up and cheer for
our team. Come to think about it, shouldn't the games only be made available to the students. Remember it it their fellow students they are cheering on. Why are we letting
non-students in? They're only taking up valuable seats that more of the 30K plus student body could be able to attend.

recruits will not be fans because they are talking to a number of schools and just taking it in. Unless they have an affinity for Rutgers they will not be cheerleaders.

It is tough with them. Do you put them in the student section to understand the energy or a recruiting lounge area where they are disconnected.

If they were to ‘give 118 back to us’, could that be a student section as well? Or is there some kind of rule against putting students behind both baskets? Then they could continue to use a part of the existing student section for recruits.

This is a great point. Some of the kids will enjoy the game from the excitement point of view but I'm sure its intimidating to be a high school junior or sophomore surrounded by a bunch 18-22 year olds on their "turf" doing all these organized cheers. I remember as a frosh the Targum printed the words to the Upstream Red Team cheer and me reading it over so I knew what was going on at games.

Imagine a chunk of the student section at the football games - where a bunch of basketball teams from around the state where just lounging around weakning the atmosphere. The football fans would be pisssed - saying we need every student possible there. But since it's only basketball it's ok..Would Greg ever even allow something to happen like that for a big game. Doubt it

Always amazes me that people come on this board without facts and then proceed to say stupid things.

I took advantage of the 2 for 1 ticket deal for Penn St. and Indiana and was in the student section for both games. Almost half the student section was adults/families. After the Indiana game, there was a last-minute sale on student section seats for the Minny game, so one would have to assume that without the recruits, the section would not have been full.

Now that students are back, you won't see this again this year. Kudos to RU for being creative while student interest increases as the team gets better.

Where was the basketball team prior to Pike's arrival? Don't throw rocks in a glasshouse.

Let's enjoy a revival of sports at Rutgers.

The people complaining about the recruits taking up seats and the 2 for 1 deal keeping students out would probably be the first ones to complain about an unfilled student section during break.

It is amazing how some will find anything to complain about instead of just enjoying another great win and atmosphere at the RAC.

We didn’t even have a basketball team for many of Schianos years.

The upper half of 109 was sitting on their hands the entire game as well (as was all of 110). Well I’m a fan of Greg bringing the recruits to the games, as such, I agree with the premise of this thread. Those seats should be for students, and students only, in my most humble opinions.

“ Lounging around weakening the atmosphere”? Yeah, I guess that’s why RU lost. Oh, wait ...

You are so wrong in so many ways. Wah, wah, wah. Why don’t you just lighten up and enjoy the run the team is on?
