Which Raytheon location are you at?
The new SATs are easier than the old ones. But yes, that's what it means. A quarter of the accepted students had an 800 on their math. That doesn't mean that all those students enrolled. It just means a lot of smart students applied. Rutgers pharmacy is extremely hard to get into. It's like getting into an ivy.I am a big proponent on Rutgers academically but this is a little hard to believe. According to the chart, the middle 50% math SAT score for incoming business, engineering and pharmacy students was 710 to 790. That means that 25% of the entering kids to these schools did better then 790, as in perfect 800 on math? The national average for 800 on math is less then 1%.
Or maybe as a RU grad, I am not smart enough to understand how to read this.

I am not sure if it's changed but at one point, RU was not on the list of schools Google could hire from. I wonder if our Computer Science dept. has gotten stronger. Hope so.
Any chance we can stop discussing topics unrelated to Gleeson on a Gleeson thread????????
Average plus? I was on the high end.According to the chart, that makes you average.
EH, what do they really know. More Speculation.:CHOP:Down to Wisky and UCLA as per 247 sports via Twitter.
91, when you have to walk uphill both ways to get to school. What year was that?
[roll][roll][roll]
I see you are still living in the past.
But agree with you on Wall Street being stupid to ignore RU talent, especially MBAs.
Where do you come up with this stuff?I am not sure if it's changed but at one point, RU was not on the list of schools Google could hire from. I wonder if our Computer Science dept. has gotten stronger. Hope so.
Didn't read much of your post, too long and mostly irrelevant. You actually have little experience to comment this topic, since you only have 1 data point. You only have experience at 1 company and have no idea about anywhere else. You drank the Merck Kool-Aid and stuck with the Penn State of the pharma industry. Merck is responsible for the biggest scandal in history and tarnished the industry more than any other company (Vioxx). Also, it has the lowest comp structure of any large pharma (HR benchmark data).Despite the smileys, I still need to correct you, since some might take you seriously. Having been at Merck for 30+ years after getting my BS/MS/PhD in chem eng'g at RU, I think I'm a little more qualified to opine on this topic than you are. If you actually knew anything about chem eng'g in Pharma you'd know what I said is true.
Up until about the late 80s, Merck was the only major Pharma company where late stage chemical process R&D was run by chem E's and not chemists (we work closely with the synthetic chemists, but the engineers "own" the late development). This was mostly due to Merck's rich history of chem eng'g breakthroughs and accomplishments, going all the way back to penicillin and streptomycin and continuing through the total synthesis and manufacturing development of cortisone, followed by the stunning process development accomplishments of chem E's on the beta-lactam antibiotic imipenem in the mid/late 80s (when I joined), resulting in a synthesis based on so many trade secrets that Merck still manufactures most of the imipenem for the market, as generic companies have never really been able to figure out how to make the product in high enough quality for the market.
Then, during the 90s and into the 2000s, a number of Merck-Chem E alums went to companies like Lilly, BMS, Abbott, Celgene, J&J, etc., either founding chem eng'g departments or at least establishing strong chem eng'g sections within larger process R&D groups, modeling much of their efforts on how we did development and scale up at Merck. Merck is no longer "way ahead" of these other companies from a chem eng'g perspective, since these folks who left were all quite talented and have built their own strong organizations, but Merck still has the largest and most respected chem eng'g group in Pharma, as confirmed by a recent McKinsey benchmarking assessment (proprietary). I even got to hear that directly from quite a few of these former Merck folks at my retirement party, as about 20 or so ex-Merck folks (including several exec directors/VPs) came, partly because of our friendship and partly just to catch up with old colleagues who stayed at Merck.
I've been on enough campus visits the last year to know Google takes from a lot of schools. Drexel & NJIT also brag about their one grad they got into Google.I am not sure if it's changed but at one point, RU was not on the list of schools Google could hire from. I wonder if our Computer Science dept. has gotten stronger. Hope so.
I was already married in 91 but do tell...91, when you have to walk uphill both ways to get to school.

Can't troll weather threads, but Merck posts are fair game!

Do you know a Revan Sopher? He's at Google after getting his compsci degree (I think - might've been electrical eng'g) in 2016, iirc. He's classmates with our son (they live 3 houses down from us).RU Computer Science 16' here
I know tons of classmates with jobs at Google, Facebook, LinkedIn, Amazon, SalesForce, Verizon, Microsoft....
I can keep going.
Why is it hard to believe that 6 years into the Big Ten era, our admissions profile is similar to our peers in the conference?I am a big proponent on Rutgers academically but this is a little hard to believe. Very proud of RU ChemE's. RU CoE is the foundation of my career success, definitely more than my RU MBA (learned plenty about business and commercial ops, but my core skills are all based on engineering).Well, if you had read my post, you'd know that I have friends/colleagues who used to work at Merck who are leading chem eng'g dept's/groups at about 5 other Pharma companies, so I get to hear a ton of intel on how that's been going and all of them still say that Merck's chem E department is the gold standard in Pharma, which is absolutely true - which is why they keep cherry-picking our talent, which is actually ok, as we're large enough and have enough new talent to replace them.
And your only comeback was about Vioxx, which has nothing to do with the topic at hand (chem eng'g groups in Pharma) and comp structure, which you're simply wrong on (we're in the middle). But I know why you won't stick to the topic - it's because you know you have far less knowledge about the topic than I do, so you try to obfuscate/deflect, but that doesn't work. You should actually be proud that RU chem E's have done so well at the pre-eminent chem E group in Pharma, but you still don't quite know how to control your trolling urges.
You don't think I know the numbers, at least for what I do? Seriously? I always kept up to date on that stuff and have already had a couple of unsolicited offers since I retired. There's no way to say this without sounding arrogant, but people across Pharma would kill for someone with my skills/experience at Merck.Very proud of RU ChemE's. I just wish my fellow RU ChemE's would bring their talents to a better company.
FYI, comp is not even close to "the middle". I know the numbers.
Cali questioned our academic profile vs UCLA.I can’t be bothered with trying to find out how the OP got so far off track. I am wondering if there is any new information on Gleeson and is he still I play for OC
All pharma comp is decent. Hell, much better than decent. Most industries would love to have our margins and comp benefits. I'm just saying Merck's comp is low compared to other large pharma companies. I had a Merck offer 5 years ago and spoke to the same hiring manager (we are now friends) about my recent move. Merck was a full employee band lower on comp. They would have had to max out an Associate VP band to match the ED offer I eventually accepted. You don't think I know the numbers, at least for what I do? Seriously? Merck is firmly in the middle, financially, and the camaraderie we had, along with the location, job security and ability to build a career without having to move, all combined to keep me there rather than moving for more $$.
Also, do you think I'd be retiring at 57 with a wife who has been an at-home mom the whole time if I wasn't paid pretty decently? C'mon, I know you're actually smarter than that.

are any SAT II's required to apply for the OC position? So you want to talk about Gleeson? Start a Rutgers SAT score requirements thread and we'll load the thread up with Gleeson posts.
