A serious question for Schiano lovers

For one. Floods team that “won” the big East was all schiano guys.
Schiano literally took a d1-as program who had been to one bowl in 125 years and got them to be ranked in the top 15 in the final polls within 5 years. He went to 7 bowl games. We have been to a total of 3 bowl games in the 140 years he wasn’t a coach.
he ran a very clean program that was top APR every year.
he recruited at the highest level ever for Rutgers
He built the facilities and stadium expansion.
Very few scandals or arrests.
He was more than a coach to many players and students and alumni. See Legrand
We went from 5k season tickets to a waiting list under him.
HE IS THE REASON WE ARE IN THE BIG!!

there is no candidate right now interested in this job that will better meet our needs then Greg. At the very least he will reunite the fanbase and bring in recruits and get facilities built.
With Big.money we will build, my question is will he win. We are in the Big 10 east so to go from where we r at Tina bowel will probably take 3 to 4, maybe 5 years. That is the reason I want a younger coach

most morons like me wanted him gone on this board as he demonstrated he was not a good game-day coach and spent too much time on the small micro details. This board has a short memory. He is the best short-term option but ultimately will hold the program back long-term if brought back

FIFY. Just stop with the ridiculous posts. Less than 25% of the people on this board "wanted him gone," just like probably about 25% of fans, now, aren't supportive of bringing him back.

Schiano spent 11 years at Rutgers and never won a conference title. Heck, Flood figured out how to do that. His last three seasons on the banks his best finish was 4th place in the crappy old Big East.
Why do you remember him being as a guy which after more than a decade on the job could only deliver a crappy 4th place in a conference much weaker than the BigTen? And why do you believe he will somehow do better and not be completely outmatched by better game day coaches like he was for 11 years in the old Big East?

My now standard reply to stupid posts like this one: After spending 4 years rescuing this program from an abyss even deeper than the one we're in now, Greg went 56-33 overall and 25-24, in a BE that was the equal of the B1G during those years, as per the computer rankings, including 5-1 in bowl games over those 7 years, which also included the most magical season in Rutgers's 150-year football journey. And his efforts and success were directly responsible for the stadium expansion, improved academic support and top APR ratings, and, of course, the B1G invitation. Big effing deal that he didn't win a BE championship - that's the only point you can make and it's irrelevant to most.

that's probably about right and the other thing they don't get is that coaches who might be the equal of Greg, like Bielema, Jones, and Moorhead will now not touch this job after having seen what a clusterfukk this university is with regard to athletics and football facilities support, so the folks we might get are FLASH (Flood-Ash) 2.0.

Does change the fact that it was a weak schedule in 2006? The schedule was weak and he still couldn't get the job done. Texas bowl bc he couldn't take care of a 7 win Cincy team and couldn't beat a freshman backup quarterback. This is this guys one glory yr - in a decade too

8 win Cincy

Finished the season 7-2 with close losses on the road to Louisville and WVU

There 1-3 start was due to playing on the road #1 OSU and #11 VT (who they were beating in the 4th qtr).

Next season they were 10-3 and ranked.

Our game with them followed Pandemonium in Piscataway, obvious let down.

Loaded with rosters full of NFL talent & could never win a Conference championship. Mediocre coach.

Not even close to being true. Schiano never had an NFL caliber QB, just Mike Teel
who held a clipboard one year in Seattle.

Most D players on 2006 team were overachievers too small for most big time programs. Examples William Beckford at DE and Thompson at MLB.

In 2008 all our season tickets were sold out and we had several thousand on a waiting list (in an okay conference). Now we only get several thousand to a Big10 game. DO THE MATH!!!!!!! It was the best of times; now we are in the worst of times.

We saw him recruit for a decade and still get embarrased by Tulane and Uconn. And give up 69 pts to Butch Davis. And let Fresno st and Maryland both run the ball down his throat for 300 rushing yds a piece. I could go on and on about this fraud continously falling short. He's a fraud

you don’t want to bring up beating #2 in 2006, #3 in 2007, scoring 60 plus points against Louisville in 2008, bowl wins in 2006, 2007, 2008, 2009, 2011, 7 straight wins in 2008, 7 players that he recruited getting drafted in one year, elevating a team ranked 2nd to last in the COUNTRY in 2000 to a respectable bowl team 5 years later..........

One other thing numbers.
You have to realize these bashers are used to our rich tradition of excessive winning, titles and BCS bowl games.
Why else would they ignore packed stadiums, and National respect
GS and Rutgers playing in huge meaningful games and on the brink several times just doesn’t cut it...

Lol stop it. That 5 loss Cincy team sucked.. They got smoked at home to a 6-6 Pitt team. And all of their wins came against a bunch of garbage teams. Akron, Miami OH, Western Michigan, South Florida, Syracuse, Uconn, and one nice win against Us. They were not good -- but they were good enough to beat Greg's best team. So was the backup freshman qb for wvu

this time around Greg will have the best staff by far he has ever had here. or at least potentially with the budget he will be given.
He'd also have the toughest schedule by far he has ever had here.

I think what people dont understand is that he never had budgets for assistants either. The one time we picked up good coaches because wanstedt was canned we started to do alot better with talent. Folks point to 2006 as his highlight butbi think it was right before he left. His roster was so good even kyle flood couldnt muck it up until a few years later... thats something!

I love the "Flood won a conference championship and GS didn't" argument. People forget that 4 teams won the championship that year, so it's not as great an accomplishment as you might think.

If 4 teams can win a Championship, and GS never did, that's even less of a ringing endorsement.

The best argument I've heard for Schiano is he will stop the weekly embarrassments and maybe get some infrastructure built so the next coach can some in and win.

I am down with that. It just doesn't require an 8 year contract.

he is out. He won’t come after this mess this past week.
And he never built a program at Cincy. He inherited Brian Kelly’s team when Kelly was the hottest coach in football and credit Dantonio too at cincy.
How about the two 9 win teams at Tenn.? Going against the toughest conference in college football.

I give em credit for that good win in 06. Are u seriously bringing up that 07 South Florida win? Uconn beat south florida that year too. Big deal. 60 pts on a Louisville team that had completely quit on their coach? Once again, big deal. A bunch low quality bowl games - that he weakened the schedule to get. Yankee bowl is not really worth bragging about - sorry.. 7 players drafted in one yr that's cool. But any half decent recruiter -- who recruits Fl & NJ is gonna end with nfl talent. Those states have alot of good football players. You know Temple has like 21 players in the NFL and atleast half are from New Jersey. And that's temple doing that. Are they master recruiters too? Doubt it - it's just Jersey produces talent like crazy. He did a nice job elevating a program to mediocrity - but that's far as it goes with a coach like him. We're capable of much more - just not with him as coach

All you need to know about Greg is that nfl team made him a head coach based off of the miracle he did here.

And fired him 2 years later with a .300 record and was never offered another opportunity. Not sure I'd use that as an example of Schiano being a guy you give the farm to.

Is there a number of years he can demand or any amount of money for improvements that you would say yea, that's too much?

I listed at least half a dozen coaches not named Meyer or Saban I’d have been comfortable with, one was an assistant.
None of them have any interest.
This “no one else can do it” is for 95% of us a complete fabrication.
After having first hand info from the search committee, they and me agree GS is best available.
I understand you might think Jedd and the Camps would do a better job... without huge donor support, that’s the budget

No not at all. We've always got the revenues coming in from the lacrosse team and other Olympic sports to fall back on.

I don't even know who "Jedd" is, so not sure what you are talking about. And you didn't answer my question, understanding you agree that other people could do this. And for the record, people have posted here that no, they don't believe anyone else can do it. And we weren't talking about Saban.

You know you are losing the Schiano argument when you continuously bring up lacrosse. Thank God for them now that you do though, at least they aren't embarrassing the university.

So you are in the give Schiano a lifetime unlimited budget camp. Good to know. I am interested in others opinions.
