I was debating on posting this and the mods can take this down but 2nd hand word from Archbishop Wood Catholic is that Blackshear is done at RU and will look for a hardship transfer to play in 2020.

If the administration wants to keep good players, they need to up their game and improve the work environment. If my work environment was as inept and toxic and counterproductive as Rutgers football has been, I would completely understand if my employees and clients went elsewhere. Hopefully we get a coach that Raheem and Pacheco and Sit consider to be worth staying around for. But I wish all of these guys well if they bail.

So if Hobbs didn’t fire Ash would he have stayed? No.

This season is a waste anyway. He was gone regardless. The only way he stays is if we hire a slam dunk coach.

Firing Ash allows us to get a head start before the rest of the teams start looking.

The problem wasn’t Hobbs firing Ash early. It was hiring him at all.

If true, no surprise. -But trying to get a hardship waiver? I wonder what Blackshear thinks he can base that on?

If he's gone, then he left because he feels doing so will further his NFL ambitions. -That, however, is hardly a "hardship". It's a choice. ...(That said, though, I guess he could always try to use the old default, "The coach I signed to play under was fired and as a result I just couldn't go on where I was" line.)

It'll be interesting to see if he actually does try to go the waiver route in order to play somewhere else in 2020...and if it'll work.

Ash is fired a week later: he sit out the season without red shirting and then transfer.

ASH is fired at the end of the season. He just transfers.

Either way NOTHING changes from our end.

The young man is making a poor decision. I wouldn't be too hard on him. You never know what coach is whispering in his ear on how important it is to save that precious year of eligibility. The transfer portal livened up the meat market.

Coaches recruit players only to move on to greener pastures before those players graduate.

If a player wants to find a better situation, then why can’t he use the rules to do so?

So we are likely to see him playing for Temple next season when we visit the Linc, is that the jest of this thread?

Young man is making a smart decision if football is to be his profession.
Agreed. I think there is room to agree with that AND say the "C" should get removed AND say he needs to be pushed out the door. Sitkowski is slightly different.. but if he intends to transfer.. if that's the main goal then he too needs be shown the door. Because getting those schollies back for next semester is likely in Rutgers best interests.

Transferring out won't help his NFL career, where will he transfer too? If it is a winning program he won't be featured, and if he goes to a non winning program he may as well stay at Rutgers. That is what Tom Savage concluded. Are you sure your rumor is right OP?

I am sure that when these kids we recruited, they were not told that they would have the pleasure to jion a program that was going to be run into the dirt with zero hope to see it turn around during their stay on the banks. They all came here to be a part of that group that turns it around. Came for the right intention that we all speak of and 2/3/4 years later, they have given their all but Rutgers has not given their all. They get 4 years of their life to do something that has been a lifelong dream. If that was your window and you had decided to forego elsewhere and be a part of building a program but now a good portion of a dream has been broken, and now, there is no hope in your final year that you are going to see anything worthwhile from your efforts, why would you stay? I do hope they stick and finish up here but have no problem if they decide to move on.

This former captain is following the steps of another former captain that also quit on his teammates last year . Times have changed regarding what a captain is. Time for teams to start to reconsider what criteria they use for this distinction being assigned to a player.

At least Jonah quit after the season was over and his year of being captain was done. This guy quit after only 1/4 of the season was completed.

If Ash was fired after Game 5 how would Blackshear sit out the season without red shirting? Refuse to play? Fake an injury?

He is from Philly. Where is he going to transfer with a hardship waiver? The only football program closer to Philly than Rutgers is Temple.

That C on his chest needs to go.

If true, which is likely, it just reaffirms that this program is in full destruct and rebuild mode. Everything needs to be new and different. New coach, new staff, new players, new philosophy, new direction, new recruiting method, new relationships with HS coaches. Knock it all down and build from scratch. The choice of a new coach is of paramount importance and will determine if we emerge from this mess or sink further.

On the bright side, if it is true that In the midst of crisis lies opportunity, RU has one hell of an opportunity here.

This simply isn’t true. He’s a running back and whether he plays at RU or any other school will not effect whether he gets drafted or plays in the league. Edwards and Hilliman both transferred into RU and they’re both in the league. If you have talent the NFL finds you.

Disagree. True, the kid got a scholarship, but he was getting that from someone anyway. He did buy into the program by coming here. I’m sure this program was not what he signed up for. This is on Hobbs and Ash. Can’t blame him one bit.

Blaming kids and not the coaches and administration is super lame. This program has sucked because of bad hires. I am happy the kids do what is best for them. Lets start a respectful program one of these days.
