Will Duke be in the NCAA tournament next year ... yes. Will anyone besides their rivals care about their players getting paid ... no. I’d prefer Rutgers to take the Alabama/Duke method to be honest rather than the Illinois/Northwestern model where you behave and get good once every 20 years. But that’s just me

What did Duke do? Zion’s mother may have done something wrong. But, again, what did Duke do?

Yea this kind of just seems like Nike doing Duke’s dirty work for them. More or less just perpetuating Duke’s status as kings of CBB. Works for both Nike and Duke while giving Duke a layer of insulation from the “messy” stuff

Dont we have an assistant coach vacancy to fill?
Go the SH/Williard route and give away the position to the handler of an elite prospect.

There is an NBA writer who is a huge Louisville fan/alum.
Her colleagues always rag on her.

"Is Louisville in the NCAA tourney this year? I'm serious. Sometimes they are in it and sometimes they aren't allowed in it. I never know year to year."

She recently said they have 3 championships. 2 officially and 1 that happened while she was a student. If she was there and has memories of it happening, it counts for her.

Duke swore they vetted this kid and his family (as they do with all their recruits) and found nothing. That would make them complicit wouldn’t it?

It has been long rumored that someone close to Zion received something that led the kid to commit to Duke instead of Kansas.

IF that is indeed true, and Michael Avenatti is the person to expose that it is true, that may make my entire year.
Sure wish it was someone other than Avenatti to expose it.

At least Duke was trying to be smart about it. No duffel bags filled with cash.

Zion's mom received money for “consulting services !

At the very least it would make them bad at vetting recruits and their families.

There was a phone conversation between Merl Code and a Kansas assistant coach during which Code told the KU Assistant Coach that Zion's father allegedly allegedly asked for money, a job and housing. The recording of the call was not played in court because the judge would not allow it into evidence (I don't recall why).

So you would agree that if Zion and family were being paid by Nike, coach K knew.
Trust me, short of someone leaking me copies of every GoT Episode from Season 8 before the season premiere aired, almost nothing would make me happier than to find out that Zion or his family got paid and Coach K knew about it. Almost nothing.

Michael Avenatti is a known liar, but I posted this last week in another thread. I know a doc filmmaker who has been working on a film around this for the last 6 months.

He contends that Zion's family received $1MM for his 1 year at Duke.

Coach K has been particularly outspoken recently about athletes getting compensated. It's been odd to say the least.

One thing is for sure, basketball is a cesspool.

Did Duke know? Was it done to get him to go to Duke? Good questions.

Actually it doesn't matter. Not if precedent matters. USC got hung out to dry for Reggie Bush's family being associated with an agent and taking gifts. The school had zero involvement.

I’m not a Duke hater but as a college basketball fan I’m sick and tired of blatant cheating and the shady business of illegal player payments. It’s got to end. I truly hope it all blows up and anyone involved goes down. Knowing the NCAA, I have little faith anything actually happens.

You can't fool me. I know those USC film school people are commies in training. Whereas Duke kids go straight from J Crew to Burberry's.

Not sure what that has to do with Reggie Bush's family taking gifts outside of the university and the school still being punished, but ok.
