Who is making the decision at Wake Forest--the AD who is retiring, the new AD, or the President of the school? If this was Rutgers, I wouldn't mention the President of the school since I have seen Pres. Barchi at ONE basketball game since he got here, It was vs. Penn. a few years ago and he sat with people wearing Penn. gear.

Wake Forest earned the mess they are in.
They fired a Coach 15 months after his team was ranked No. 1 in the country then the AD hired his buddy, Jeff Bzdelik who posted a stellar 36–58 in his only high major job, then hiring Manning after he went 38–29 in two seasons at Tulsa (Conference USA).

I think that Nevada's veterans (some players are 24) will be just a little better than UF who relies heavily on some freshmen.
Do you have any sense what it is that draws guys like Massoud or Jaylen Hoard to the school then?
kc, I don't know how important it is to a kid,but I have been there and it is a pretty nice campus. I wouldn't put it up there with West Point,but still very nice.
Tobacco is a cash crop. Almost as profitable as Texas Tea. It's the heart of tobacco country.

What I meant is he doesn't have his footing yet. He is still meeting money ppl.The issue is they need the money for firing Manning. It's $13-$18 million to make a change firing him and hiring new guy. That's a lot for a small AA even though they have rich donors. Chris Paul had to pay for their locker room upgrade. I don't think they are flush with cash. Their revenue is not far ahead of some G5 programs. Something doesn't compute money wise. You know what I mean?

Schools don't usually fire a coach unless they have a pretty good chance or idea that they have a couple of candidates that would take the job. Once some schools like Wofford and UNCG get eliminated or lose in the NIT, you'll start to see movement.
Well it seems a little more palatable if that $13-18MM includes paying the new staff. Still a considerable sum however.
Manning's buyout is reportedly between $13-18 million. Lately the number $16 million has been popping up in my text messages. So, if those people are correct, let's say it is $16 million to tell Coach Manning to clean out his office. Someone has to write a pretty big check (nobody I've spoken to knows if his buyout is to be paid in installments or a lump sum) because Ron Wellman was so giddy that Manning guided Wake to a No. 11 seed and the "First Four" round of the 2017 NCAA Tournament (where they lost to K-State) that he gave Manning an extension and basically guaranteed each year of the contract.
Wellman is the same AD who fired Dino Gaudio and hired his buddy Jeff Bzdelik. In three seasons Gaudio was 61-31 at Wake and took the team to two NCAA Tournaments. In Gaudio's second season at Wake they finished in third place in the ACC. Thirteen months later Wellman fired Gaudio who went on to become an ESPN CBB in-studio analyst.
I don't know who Chris Ash is, and I'm about to turn off my computer and go to sleep so I'm not looking him up, but whoever Manning's agent is got him a sweetheart of a deal.
Regardless of the time of day, its not worth the effort to find out who Chris Ash is.
Lol, sorry - he's our head football coach (who also has about $10m in guaranteed money owed to him), and as @rufeelinit says isn't worth the effort to look up.
Danny manning isn't just a bad basketball coach..he fails the kids he recruits in other ways too. He has graduated a total of one recruit over five years while running off 11 of his recruits.
Yeah the academics really don't mean anything if the kids don't graduate from wake.

I don't think he ran off 11 kids.
For example...John Collins left after his sophomore year because he was a first-round draft pick. Doral Moore was an idiot, or got idiotic advice from adults around him, and declared for the draft when he would not have been drafted if there were 20 rounds to the NBA draft. Several kids did transfer transfer but several were surprised to the staff.
Nothing changes here....just wait a year until he's fired next year and Massoud transfers out....delaying the inevitable down in Winston Salem NC.
I think the buyout was just too much. Massoud might just leave in the future if Manning is let go but he would probably have to sit out a year at that time.
Time to put Massoud in the rear view mirror. We put our best foot forward recruiting him yet for some reason Wake was preferred. Not going to keep thinking at some point he will wind up here. If Manning was fired that was plausible. Less so as time moves forward and he starts his career there and we fill our open slots for 19 and 20..
This reminds me of when Julie couldn't muster up the buyout funds to fire Flood after the 2013 season.
